Travis 576 Report post Posted February 9, 2010 Yeah, convenient timing. That's fine, though. The guy's dumber than a rock, but real baseball smart. Bring him on board!

Travis 576 Report post Posted February 9, 2010 I might be able to like Damon again? Woo hoo! Maybe the Tigers will let him grow his hair long again. Haha, I'm sure they would. As far as I know, the Yankees are the only team that imposes a grooming policy.

cupforwings 138 Report post Posted February 9, 2010 The yankees signed Thames too... they are just taking all our players... I think Damon isn't as productive as he used to be, so who knows if the tigers want him
Travis 576 Report post Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) The yankees signed Thames too... they are just taking all our players... I think Damon isn't as productive as he used to be, so who knows if the tigers want him Damon's still putting up fairly solid numbers for a guy in his role at his age. I think part of the worry is that everyone is expecting a decline. edited for clarification. Edited February 9, 2010 by Travis
Hank Dats 'N Homer 81 Report post Posted February 9, 2010 Ya know, i root for the red sox (and yes Damon) whenever the Tigers are out of contention. Boston has always had a softspot in my heart for all sports. i just love the history of the town (sox, bruins patriots). One time while visiting Boston just after they had won the world series and Damon went the yankees i saw a shirt in a store that i loved. It had a picture of damon with his long hair and facial hair and the shirt read "looks like Jesus, throws like marry, ACTS LIKE JUDAS" as you can tell, many Sox fans including me were very bitter about him leaving town for the biggest Rival team of Boston. I lost alot of respect for him when he went to the yanks, cut his hair and shaved his beard, as a hate sellouts. Now im a HUGE tigers fan, probably the biggest you will ever meet, but i find it so weird that after HATING this guy for so long and not wanting him to ever play in a tigers uniform, i hear that this guy is a fan of the Red wings and STEVE YZERMAN and i open my arms to him hahaha. does that make me shallow? or just a die hard wings fan as much as im a die hard tigers fan? lol. Im sure the whole story is BS and Boras (those of us that know just what kind of an agent he is) is just making things up to snag Detroit attention, but i cant help but wonder haha
Hank Dats 'N Homer 81 Report post Posted February 9, 2010 He's still putting up fairly solid numbers for a guy in his role at his age. I think part of the worry is that everyone is expecting a decline. If im not mistaken, i think he was at pace for 1 homerun for every 14 at bats. Thats pretty good for a decent power hitter. Yankees are just playing smart baseball. They didnt commit to a major league contract, but they know that if he heats up in the minors hes a mid season call up or a late season/post season call up for sure. Carman 387 Report post Posted February 9, 2010 Ugh, Damon is not what the Tigers need. He's like the only person in the league that could actually make our already terrible outfield worse...

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted February 10, 2010 Ugh, Damon is not what the Tigers need. He's like the only person in the league that could actually make our already terrible outfield worse... Agreed to an extent. Damon can't be any worse than Guillen is in left and the Tigers desperately need a leadoff hitter. If nothing else, they have Raburn/Thomas as defensive replacements. I would be very happy with Johnny Damon coming to the Tigers.

Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted February 20, 2010 I liked Damon when he was a Red Sock, before he sold his soul, cut his hair, and signed with the *Yankees*. Imagine, I dunno, Chris Osgood signing with the Avs. His power numbers won't look good when he no longer plays in a ballpark with a little league fence in right field, but his arm's sure gonna look even more little league in Comerica's outfield. And at $14M over two years, well, that's a quarter million less than Granderson. (And that trade was a salary dump, no matter how Dombrowski spins it.) And, there's this: Pierzynski lobbied Damon to sign with the White Sox, and neither Damon, nor his wife, Michelle, want any part of Detroit, multiple sources say. Damon might sign with Detroit if he has no other offers. Why the Tigers want him after trading Granderson I have no idea.
Hossa4Life 4 Report post Posted March 20, 2010 (edited) well according to the all the staff of the tigers they felt that feilding was grandersons olny upside and they felt that he wasnt worth the money if his spotty batting was going to continue.
