Going to the Game Thursday - General Questions

Seeing how Thursday is my birthday, a friend got me tickets to the Wings - Sharks game. I have a few questions if you guys could help me though.

First, we were planning on eating at Hockeytown Cafe before the game. Can anyone tell me how the shuttle system works? Also, has anyone ever eaten there? What do you think of it?

Second, our seats are in section 126, row 10, it will be right in the corner on the side the Wings shoot on in warm ups. How hard do you think it would be to get a puck? :D

Hockeytown is a good place to eat, the food is decent and the prices arent to bad. I usually get the hockeytown burger and its always pretty good. My GF usually gets the quesadilla's or however you spell it and she likes those. decent size portions. The shuttles are very efficient they leave every 10-15 minutes and they are free. Some of hte drivers are a little crazy. One time i was on it, the driver jumped the curve and sideswiped a parking meter and ended up with a flat tire, but that didnt stop her from getting us back to hockeytown cafe haha. I usually tip the driver 2 bucks each way but its not required. As for catching a puck, if you are in the corner they have that tall netting over the boards so id say the chances are pretty unlikely. I would just recommend getting there early and watching the warmups. Drapes and a few of the other guys usually pass out some pucks during warmups, probably a better chance with that.

Should be a good game. I got to go to a wings sharks game last year on my birthday (feb 25th) and as always, its a good game to see. Hoping for a victory for your bday!

I've never taken the shuttle from Hockeytown, but if you like Red Lager's - I'm pretty sure they're one of the only places in Detroit that gets Rickard's Red from Canada - it's delicious, so I recommend that for beer aficionado's... food is pretty good, a little over priced for what it is, but good nonetheless - pulled pork sandwich was the best thing I ever ate there

EDIT - just checked their menu... looks like they don't carry Rickard's anymore - boo to them!

As for the seats, those should be pretty good view wise, but the odds of getting a puck there are slim to none with the netting and the angle...

Hockeytown is a good place to eat price wise and food wise, the shuttle if I remember correctly leaves from the side of the building that leads to the parking structure behind it. If however for some reason Hockeytown is crowded and the wait is long, try the Detroit Brewing Company which is over near the back entrance to Comerica (I cant remember exact streets, but it is right near the rear of Comerica). The food there is decent and does not cost an arm and a leg

Hope this helps...

I'll be there too right above you in the upper bowl. I usually go down toward the benches and where they don't have netting to try to grab some pictures, but I've never gotten a puck. Back when McCarty played for us, he'd always toss a handful of pucks into the stands, so hopefully like HD&H said, if Draper does it now, you might be able to snag one if you're lucky. Like I said, though, you'd have to go down toward where there isn't netting. Usually they won't let you stand in the front row, but 2nd and up, you should have no problem sitting in someone elses seats for warmups. Just be courteous if they get there and move for them if they come for warmups too :)

I think it will be difficult getting a puck without a child there to get it for you. Get there at the beginning of warmup to increase your chances. Save yourself some money by not eating at Hockeytown. The food it terrible.

Yeah I was talking about going down to the side boards to get a puck. I might hold up a sign or something to get a players attention. Getting a puck from a player would be the ultimate present lol.

Dusty: Hockeytown isn't very good eh?

On the contrary. Good burgers, good sandwiches, ribs, pasta, steak, really anything you could think of.

The general consensus seems to be that it is good, so maybe it's just Dusty.

I would not recommend hockeytown cafe, I think the service there kinda sucks. I personally recommend anywhere in the Greektown area. There are shuttles from all over Greektown that you can take to and from the game, or the people mover to the game is a solid option only fifty cents...on the way back it gets kinda cramed. Have fun.

Like people have been saying, the shuttles are good from hockeytown cafe. If you want to go somewhere else though, you can just take the people mover for a couple of quarters... takes you right to JLA.

As far as getting a puck, your best bet would be during warm ups. Look out for Drapes. He throws a couple handfuls out. I got one during warm ups once standing under the net. Ericsson had a wild shot that missed the goal and hit the netting above the boards, fell down right in front of me and almost hit my head. Haha.

Last time my gf and I were in Motown we went to hockeytown cafe, the service seemed fine the food was good for the price. The artichoke dip was awesome and the hockeytown burger was good times :) You can also hit up greektown for some great pregame chicago style pizza and greek food (obv). You can also park in greektown casino and if you're feeling like having some pre or post game fun you can always gamble at the casino :) Then take the people mover from the casino to the Joe (costs 75 cents per trip) Hopes this helps, have a great time while you're there :D and GO WINGS!!!!!!!! :siren:
