Thats the nice thing about being in 9th place, everyone around you sucks too which makes it much easier to hang around. Ahh, Flames have more wins... So if we get the same amount of points, they will still be seeded 8th... Enjoy ---> this song describes the Wings relationship with the playoffs, injuries, and this past season... While the amount of people who still believe this team can make the playoffs has absolutely no correlation as to how they'll actually play down the stretch, it's still kind of disappointing to see people just abandon all hope. Most of LGW is acting like spoiled brats because our team has been good to us the past two decades and think that we're going to go back into the dark ages if we miss the playoffs this year. If the team doesn't make the playoffs, you can act like you were all smart and full of foresight on an internet forum, and that you gave up hope early means that you won't be as disappointed as if you'd held onto it like a real fan does. If the team does make the playoffs, you can act like "oh, I'm so pleasantly surprised! I shouldn't have doubted the team! " I wish I had a middle finger emoticon here. Firstly, I'd get on people a lot more saying this season is in deep trouble if it were a scenario like last year around this time - namely that there were big problems with defense and goaltending, but we were a lock to make the playoffs. I'd just tell people in this situation to settle down, they'll be all right, and we'll see what happens in the playoffs as it is a different season and the Wings were all but in. Secondly, this season is not over, the Wings still have opportunities to improve their standing, despite what some are saying in here. However, for the ones being smart allecs to others with panic icons and the like now - with only roughly 20-25 games left in the season - what has this team showed you lately that makes you think, "This team will make the playoffs without any difficulty? They'll easily get in as a 4 or 5 seed." What makes you think this? They haven't shown me anything lately suggesting that. I would be right there with some of you telling others to get a grip if it was the beginning of the season or the Wings have all but wrapped up a playoff spot, but they haven't. The time to just brush these things aside and say that this team is fine or will be all right is gone. They could easily make the playoffs, and we can all laugh and giggle and have a good time, but it is not a definite, and while there are still chances, they are running out chances to improve their standing, and they cannot just rely on other lower seeds possibly screwing up. Of course that may play out where others might play .500 hockey and it comes down to the final 2 or 3 games, but I'd rather not seem them take that risk. While I'll always definitely hope for the best, their odds of making the playoffs slowly get harder and harder every time they lose a shootout or get outplayed in a game losing in regulation. While what you said is completely true, 20 games is nearly a 1/4 season, their last 20 games before that they haven't completely dominated either. And before that in December or whatever. All this work the past few months to climb from what, 12th/11th in the conference to 9th/8th? If they continue to play .500 hockey the last 20 games they could possibly improve to 6th or 7th, but they could just as easily miss alltogether. They need some decent winning streaks going ASAP. I felt good about our chances a month ago and remained optimistic, but I expressed one concern: when the team was healthy, they seemed to have a lot of issues with balance and chemistry. I worried that perhaps as we got healthy again, we might revert to the "team" of October which was terrible on so many levels. As time has gone on, my concerns have played out as I worried they might. And over the last 4-5 weeks, this team just seems to be looking worse as time goes on despite getting guys back. I still hope we turn it around and I certainly don't think it's impossible, but the team has done absolutely nothing to convince me that they're going to do that. They've done far more to convince me that my optimism needs to be dialed down if not utterly muted. Blatant pessimism doesn't do any good, but with the team giving no reason to be excessively optimistic lately at all... Again, I really do hope we can pull it off, but my faith has been balanced out by too many reasons that suggest this team just doesn't have what it takes to get the job done. But a 59 game precedent of mediocrity, particularly in the times when this team has been most healthy, gives little reason to be optimistic. Not so much, but giving up on them now which many have done is ridiculous, now is the time to be fan more than ever. People have to learn that things dont always go the way we want. We have been spoiled and our expectations are high but sometimes un realistic. Something is cancerous in that locker room, and I hate to say it, but I think it is in the coaching staff. Babs is a helluva coach don't get me wrong but the players are not responding or listening. Because it was earlier in the season, when it was much, much harder to predict what would happen in the playoffs. Nobody really knew who would be in or out. Now with only 20 games left or so, it is a bit easier to say that now with some accuracy. If it makes you sleep easier at night though, keep thinking that theen.
