2010 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - March 3rd, 3:00 PM ET

Funny how since the lockout the trade deadline isn't really a big deal, but the media makes it a big deal. Funny too how we all get sucked in.

Edit: I had a half day at work today, and I too turned on TSN this afternoon. But I did fall asleep in front of the TV for an hour at least.

I'm pretty sure I saw half of the trade centre guys nodding off there at one time or another.

I don't know that he'd be 16th, but I'll try to name 10 for you.

Brian Burke, Mike Gillis, George McPhee, Ray Shero, Brian Murray (recently), Darcy Regier (on a limited budget, that team is always competitive), Dave Poile (same as Regier), Lou Lamorello, Sutter (Flames GM).

Ah well, there are 9 that I feel are better for different reasons. I'd rank him #10.

Brian Burke- as much as people hate him this guy has won a cup and made a pretyy damn good in in Ana

Mike Gillis - really what has he done beside signing Loungo and the Sedins

George McPhee - he drafted Ovi he must be a good GM

Ray Shero- you give any team the picks they got (Sid, Geno, Fleury and Staal) and they be pretty competitive

Brian Murray - done a good job so far but lets see how he does when he goes through a big transition phase

Darcy Regier- Good GM does a lot with a little but in a what have you done for me lately society still hasnt done anything lately

Dave Poile- Same a Regier

Lou Lamorello - The only guy id even consider putting above Holland

Sutter- Really again a guy has a bunch a talent but doesnt have anything thing else to his name. You can say he was part of finding Kipper and yea he signed Robyn cheap but has he won a cup?

Now our boy Holland- Wins without any major draft picks, Won a cup in 2002 three seasons before the Cap. Won in 2008 three years after the cap pretty good considering Detroit was usually a big spender when it came to free agency. Ok so maybe Ken did over look guys like Nabby and Kipper but guys like Sutter overlooked guys like Pavs, Hank and Fanzen

I wonder if the Canadian Sports stations are going to start cutting back a bit on their Trade Deadline day coverage starting next year? Seriously they could just give an update every 30 minutes. Then maybe at 3:00-5:00 they could go to full coverage and analysis.

Darryl Sutter is not a good general manager. I don't know where people have picked this up.

The Flames are 10th in the NHL currently, with an overworked goaltender, a wildly inconsistent captain and in the last month, he's just traded for a quarter of one of the worst teams in hockey (the Leafs). He's made the Cup final ONCE in 15 years as a GM. He has had one other time where his team made it to the conference final. That's it.

If you want a general manager who makes big trades but neveral really goes anywhere, Sutter's your man. But he has nothing in his pedigree that

even touches Ken Holland's general managerial jockstrap.

Agreed. Big time, I mean, he trades Boyd for a 4th round pick. Trades for Stoais, which would be a good deal except for 2.7 million for another year. Stajan is a good player, but isnt a top line center and 3.5 for him is alot. Toskala is a friggin garbo goalie who's barely better then McEhilney was, Higgins works hard but really doesnt do anything and Kotalik still sucks. They have an overated, underperforming defence (minus Giordano and White) and a group of forwards that is meh and like you said a overworked goalie. Sutter sucks, enough said.
