Ok, since other topics always seem to be hijacked over this question, I will make a thread for all the discussion.

I keep saying the only reason I'd think about moving Flip is because he is the most movable of all the players on Detroit, he would get the best return, and since Detroit is deep on center, he realistically is our 3rd line center which would be a waste of his offensive abilities since he wouldn't have any talent with him to finish, and if he plays 1st/2nd line on the wing some of his defensive ability would be lost (which is arguably his greatest asset) because wings arent supposed to be as defensively responsible as the center.

Personally there is one trade id make

Flip and Lebda and a 2nd for Olesz in Florida. Other than this one trade i really don't see many deals that would give the wings a good enough return to move him.

Talent report on Olesz:

A player without any glaring weakness, Olesz is a character guy who gives everything to the team's success. He is offensively talented, well-balanced and always showing a nasty edge in his play. Olesz plays a combative style and is a good hitter. He is a valuable asset to both powerplay and penalty killing units. A solid skater with a decent agility, Olesz impresses with his excellent lower-body strength. He has a sharp hockey sense and vision. Also very good in the faceoff circle, Olesz emerges as both a smart passer and a strong finisher. He possesses a good variety of shots, he could only fire the puck more often. Olesz impresses with his strong defensive awareness, he limits the opposing players' options effectively. A mature player, he doesn't tend to take shifts off.

So, I am sure everyone has their opinion/expectations/etc

there should be more options for the poll - anyone is tradeable for the right deal, I just don't see another team giving us what I think we should get in return for him, so I don't want to see him moved and I think he still has a LOT of growth to do...

he's the type of guy you end up regretting you traded - that's my worry.

You are nuts???? Olesz has really done nothing in Flordia....and Flip has been very solid, plus he is rock solid in the playoffs.

Why all this talk about trading Flip? he has something like 14 points in the last 18 games...I dont get it.

For the record, I don't like how that Poll was constructed. I would trade Flip for Ovechkin anyday.

Edit: Poll Options

1. Yes

2. Yes, but only if it's a good deal

3. No

Just something to the extent of that

Well, the argument is that Detroit is hurting for Goal scorers not playmakers and since flip is definitely not a goal scorer if a trade was made we'd move out an asset that would warrant good return.

I would only trade Flip for someone with well known ability to pot 30-ish goals, or a d-man of Stuart's skill or better. Other than that, absolutely not. Also would not trade for a last year 'til UFA (rental) player.

I don't know that he's worth all that, and I don't think Detroit's in a position to need to trade him at this point anyway imo. He's played acceptably well so far since returning.

Can you add more after a poll is already created?

Maybe just

1. Yes

2. Yes - but only for a huge return

3. No - under any circumstance

4. No - he hasn't peaked

5. Maybe - I don't do any real research and rely on others to formulate my opinions for me

sorry, the 5th one was just for fun :)

Hurting for goal scorers?

Franzen - Legit 40 goal scorer

Zetterberg, Datsyuk - good for alteast 30 goals

Cleary, Homstrom, Bertuzzi - good for atleast 20 goals

Yea, I see Zetterberg and Datsyuk are both lighting the lamps night in and out.

Fil is probably the biggest catch Detroit has right now, trade-wise.

He does his job perfectly well, can play excellent defense, and is not at his prime yet. However I think he is very expendable because he isn't the best offensive player there is or the best defensive player.

I really hope they don't, because I love having Fil on the team.

We already blew it on the best deal out there. We should've traded him last year and used the cap relief to pitch a better deal to Hossa.

Hossa at $5 mil >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Flip at $3 mil...

In every way imaginable...

The problem is that our goal scoring is too concentrated. Teams can easily shut down the Wings best lines.

Homer is on the decline. Cleary may or may not score 20 goals any season, last year he had 14. Detroit needs another pure goal scorer, in my opinion.

I would agree with that. With talk that Zetterberg and Datsyuk are going to be split the rest of the way, it worries me a little. Unless they put Z on the wing....now that I think about that, it could be a killer line

Zetterberg-Filppula-Franzen

(However it would probably be more likely that Mule is put on the first and Cleary/Bert on the 2nd)

Cheechoo is a 50-goal scorer. Gary Leeman is available for the right price, too. It's not about what they've done, it's about what they are doing.

Absolutely agree with you. If they aren't producing, the Wings need to grab someone who will. (Not necessarily meaning they get rid of them, just someone to score).

Flip, Lebda and a 2nd for Olesz?

lol, talk about overpayment.

I had a 3rd going back to Detroit, forgot to add that in. Lebda is in there just because the wings need to lose his salary.

Zetterberg is a better Center than Flip, no ifs, ands or buts about it.

I respectfully disagree. We'll see how the line changes work out first. If by seasons end, production all around has declined then you may be right.
