2010 Winter Olympics - Canada vs United States (Group A)

Isn't morrow, richards etc player with heart? who would you add/replace?... St.Louis?

Yeah, but two guys out of 13 aren't going to make a huge difference. There's 6 or 7 guys along for the ride right now that are doing squat.

Getzlaf is clearly hurt and shouldn't be playing. I'm fine with Carter in for him.

I'd have Doan or Smyth playing instead of Marleau. I would've had a hard time leaving Thornton off the team, but he's certainly lived up to his reputation as a guy who gets worse as the games get bigger. Maybe a guy like Smyth wouldn't play much, but he'd do the ugly things that few else on that team are willing to do.

Pronger and Niedermayer are clearly past the point of being useful internationally. I guess Phaneuf & Bouwmeester would be more ideal, but I like the way that Keith, Seabrook etc. are playing. Just hope Babcock staples Pronger to the bench.

Maybe a Milan Lucic there as a 13th forward just to go out and throw some hits once or twice a period? I don't know.

I just know that guys standing there watching the play isn't working.

Totally agree!! too bad NBC blundered by moving it to cable only MSNBC--this should have been the main TV event on the National Network NBC.

I agree. NBC dropped the ball tonight. Stupid MOFO's.

I think Bob Costas should be burned inside of a wicker man. I've had about all I can stand from his coffee house conversations and stupid face. In his own way, he's twice as annoying as any political commentators on TV.

The US did earn that one, but it's only one game. Canada didn't even hit their stride until the semi-finals in 2002.

i agree. its still the preliminary stage. If i am canadian, i would think its better to lose now than later in the tournament

Great game and a total contrast in style with Canada's size and strength vs the Americans' speed. Great to see Rafa step it up. USA really laid it all out on the line in those last 5 minutes and that empty netter was pure heart. No much Babcock could do though; the SJ foursome choked big time and Crosby was a disgrace as usual.

Can't wait for the Canada/Russia QF in Wed. night, assuming the home team doesn't choke massively against Germany.

Let your voice be heard -here ya go! Happy letter writing - nbcolympicsfeedback@nbcuni.com

NBC not putting this on their main broadcast tonight was an epically bad decision on their part. That said, the two games played already today (and hopefully Sweden/Finland later) have certainly proven why the NHL should continue to allow their players to complete in the Olympics. Of course that means that Buttman will find a way to screw that up though.

I just know that guys standing there watching the play isn't working.

That is definitely not how it looks from the American perspective. Looked to me like about nine Canadian players all about seven feet tall firing the puck out of howitzers at Miller while USA swatted fruitlessly at the puck, thanks to the blue line force field. One goal leads have a way of distorting perspective.

I'm certainly not a great hockey mind, but it almost seems like too many stars and not enough role players. Too many cooks, like someone mentioned before.

You're kidding. Right? He did have one good play I saw where he passed it to one of his own players in front of the net. That is all.

Yeah well Brodeur played baseball and... oh wait -.-

For sure...I was sweating bullets for a large portion of the game. The big difference was that the Americans capitalized, and Ryan Miller is the most interesting man in the world. He let 3 goals in just to see what it would feel like.

This. Totally agree that Doan and Bouwmeester should be on the team. Getzlaf didn't look great, but I didn't think that he looked like he was playing injured. He certainly was healthy enough to lay that cheap shot to Miller's mask with his stick in the first period.

video of one of the sickest empty netters ever by Kesler:

http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/assetid=e...cc1.html#kesler

First time I ever openly cheered in my house for a goal since Rafalski's goal in the 2008 finals.

Also Kesler is from Livonia, MI. That's about 5 minutes away from me. REPRESENT!

I can see where it goes. Canada destroys Germany, then Russia and Canada annihilates each other, Finland beats the winner of this pair just to lose to Sweden for the second time in this tournament.

They're throwing lots of pucks at the net, but there's a lack of quality shots. They're way too predictable. They get a 2-on-1 or a 3-on-2 or something and the puck carrier peels off and looks to dump the puck to the middle every.single.freakin'.time. There's no drive to the net, there's nobody driving to the net. They want to score fancy goals on tic-tac-toe plays.

Of course, having Pronger and Niedermayer on the back end to turn the puck over endlessly doesn't help.

There's no speed through the neutral zone, there's not a lot of battles won along the boards. The defencemen aren't making solid first passes (ice is bad, clearly...but they have more than enough talent to cope). It's just fundamental stuff that they can't or won't execute.

They were average against Norway, terrible against the Swiss and even worse tonight, save for the last few minutes of the 3rd when they finally played like they could.

They should beat Germany, but the battle against Russia won't be pretty. Unless they magically find some heart.

Babcock is getting killed in the local bars here in Canada. I'm glad, always thought he was overrated and I'm so sick of that stupid look on his face,we get you're intense.
