Canada sets record

Why do Canadians constantly preach this "It's our game" nonsense? Are they that insecure as a country? It's really, really weird how they always say that. It always sounds so juvenile. Like a two year old trying to ****** a lollipop from another two year old. Lol.

As I stated before, I'd bet that its to compensate for the fact that a Canadian team hasn't won the Stanley Cup since 1993.

You don't own the sport.

And last time I checked the best league in the world is primarily based in the United States.

Until 2014 we undoubtedly own the sport.

Before today you could bring up arguments about why we dont, but right now we're the olympic champs. And have the most players in the league, and pretty much every team in the last decade that has won a cup has heavy canadian influence.

This thread reminded me of PJ O'Rourke's study:

CANADIANS

Racial Characteristics:

Hard to tell a Canadian from an extremely boring regular white person unless he's dressed to go outdoors. Very little is known of the Canadian country since it is rarely visited by anyone but the Queen and illiterate sport fishermen. It is thought to resemble a sort of arctic Nebraska. It's reported that Canadians keep pet French people. If true, this is their only interesting trait. At any rate, they are apparently able to train Frenchmen to play hockey, which is more than any European has ever been able to do.

Good Points:

Still have plenty of Indians to abuse.

Proper Forms of Address:

Bud, mac, mister, hey you.

Because everyother country talkas like its their game. Thre was a thread the other day about how come 2014 the stateas wll be the best hockey country in the world.

We like to defend whats ours.

Defending what is yours? Lol... thanks for validating my post with a completely moronic statement. Let it go already. You guys started a great sport and it's spread internationally. That's enough to be proud of without embarrassing yourself with proclamations of ownership. It just sounds really, really dumb when you guys say that. Outsiders perspective. Take it or leave it. Hopefully you leave it, because I always get a good laugh whenever one of you says that. Kinda like the way I laugh when I see my two nephews bickering over a toy.

Basketball was started in the United States. That doesn't designate ownership of a sport though. No one country owns any sport. Is their heavy American influence in basketball? Yes, but there is a growing influence coming from Europe. A sport is for the enjoyment of playing it and watching it, not owning it.

Actually, I didn't know this until just minutes ago, but basketball was technically invented by a Canadian born PE teacher back in the late 1890's. Strange fact of the day. But anyways...

No... It's a game that many, many countries compete in. Maybe it did start here... but I don't feel any kind of sense of ownership about it. You're starting to muddle the "It's our game" and the "we own this game" statements.

Saying "We own this game" implies dominance. And you guys can certainly claim that.

Saying "It's our game" implies that it's your game and nobody elses.

At the very least... the second statement sounds very, very selfish and insecure. Like I said, I'm just saying that it sounds really dumb when you guys claim ownership of hockey. And you guys do it ALL THE TIME.

I can't wait until the Wings play again.

Can we all promise that the second the puck is dropped tomorrow there won't be another Olympic thread for the next 4 years? Please?

James Naismith, under the direction of American phys-ed specialist Luther Halsey Gulick, invented the indoor sport of basketball.

Not that i care i hate ROFLbasketball

And Canadians will never accept this but the first version of ice hockey was played by the British of all people in 1820

Yay lets argue over the Olympics!!!

Jesus, guys...it's the freaking Olympics. I've never seen people get so riled up over figure skating and curling in my life.

Canada won a lot of gold...we get it, congratulations. But to gloat about f'ing figure skating....wow.

The only medal the mattered to me was the men's hockey gold.

If this was the only medal we got this Olympics I would be happy. The 14 golds record is just a bonus.

Actually, the first form of ice hockey was played by First Nations in Eastern Canada prior to European contact.
