From Toronto Star :

...

“The biggest surprise to me was how everybody threw Marty Brodeur, the greatest goalie in the history of the game, under the bus and backed over him and forward-backward, forward-backward,†Wilson said. “This is the greatest goalie that’s ever played and it almost tarnished his career on one night.

“He didn’t have a good night but of that had to do with how well we pressured him.â€

...

What I find ironic about this is that while in Toronto, he has done the same thing with his goaltenders in the press.

...

In the final, Wilson said he thought his team was in it all game despite the huge discrepancy between the experience and average salary of the Americans and Canadians. And, about the winning goal, Wilson noted “the puck hit the referee’s skate†before Crosby and Jarome Iginla worked a give-and-go to pot the goal that took the gold.

“No one mentioned that,†Wilson bristled about the pro-Canadian bounce. “That ended up causing kind of a kerfuffle that happened in the corner and they took advantage of it.â€

...

He forgot to mention that USA defencemen were fooled on that play. Coach Wilson is used to describing his glass as always being half-empty.

Greatest goaltender in history or not if he was playing well he would have stayed playing but he wasn't and that was obvious from the first period. What were we supposed to do just let him play on because he is Marty Brodeur? It wasn't pushing him under the bus it was giving the goalie who was playing better the time on ice. Remember when Babcock replaced Hasek with Osgood and the rest was history. Wilsons bitter bc different goalie had a different outcome that was not to his favour. Same with his comment on the puck hitting the ref's skate... there are so many little mis-cue's in a game for both teams... sometimes they can capitalize on it and sometimes its missed its part of the game.
