Let's hope so :hehe:. Blackhawk fans have been freaking out since it happened. They are worried about not only being able to fill the void but also the fact that his trade value (if there is any for him) will diminish.

EDIT: Original link wouldn't work for some reason. If you go to the following you will be able to read the article on the Campbell injury and how it affects the Hawks. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/hockey/blackhawks/

Link fail.

And Campbell had trade value? With that contract? Really?

Fixed it.

And yes, I was kinda thinking the same thing, but if they tried to package him with prospects, picks, etc, now it will be a lot harder.

Campbell + Kane + 1st to Toronto

for

Primeau + Scurb 1 + Scurb 2 to Chicago

Then there's value. Obviously Toronto doesn't need more defensemen but they'd have to consider taking on that contract to get their hands on a first round pick and Patrick Kane while giving up literally nothing. All I'm saying is that everyone has their price so if Chicago is willing to go low enough there will be someone out there.

So yeah, I think this injury is a cause for concern cause that just means if he is out that much longer and the injury makes his ability that much more uncertain then they'll have to sweeten the pot that much more if they try and move him.

On a side note, as s***ty as this may be to say (and I don't wish this on anyone) but if this turns into a lingering, terrible injury situation for Brian Campbell it could be a cap blessing in disguise for Chicago. If he has trouble rehabbing and isn't ready to go next season the Hawks would have a possible opportunity to put him on the LTIR next year which would give them some options. With broken bones that isn't all that likely but you never know.

That was my initial reaction. LTIR gives them the ability to at least replace his salary. Not a permanent solution, but could help Chicago out for awhile.

I don't wish injuries to any team or player, but I must admit I enjoy seeing the Hawks fans freaking out a little. As much as they've had an incredible season with an incredible team, so far they've managed to raise some question marks towards the end of this season. They are still an amazing team, but I'm glad that some of their steam has worn off.

Campbell was already going to be very difficult to move, unless a team like Toronto took him. I'm not sure his injury will really change a whole lot, I think he will be in Chicago at the beginning of the season as expected. Those guys will have to shed their depth. I doubt the Wings will benefit from their clearing, but there's a few guys I wouldn't mind going after.

i know the hawks will up against the cap next year, and campbell would likely be the one to go...i could see a buy out.

Not sure about the buyout option, they'd still be stuck with a relatively hefty cap hit for a number of years and be without a player and without a lot of cash.

Buying out Campbell gives them a cap hit of $2,380,958 for the next 12 years... A large pill to swallow, but maybe better than $7,142,875 for the next 6 as it saves them nearly 5 million in cap space.

He's riding a 7 million dollar a year contract with 5 years left on it. Oh and he has a NTC that allows him to give the Hawks a list of teams he'd accept a trade to.

So to go through this... Campbell is grossly overpaid, has 5 years remaining on this contract, can nix a deal he doesn't like AND the entire NHL knows that the Hawks are desperate to trade him.

The Hawks can't sit here and think about how much they can get for him, they have to figure out just how much they'll have to give up to convince another team to take his bloated contract.

A buy out is about all they can do other than trade him. If they try to demote him they'll never be able sign a big name FA again... Players won't forget how the Hawks handle this situation with Huet and Campbell.

Hmmm...maybe an odd question, but what happens if they just send him to their AHL affiliate? Clear waivers? Would that get his cap hit off the books? Is that possible?

The fact that Chicago's only choices are to trade Campbell to team he wants to play for or buy him out makes me happy. I still cannot understand how the majority of Hawks fans think they are going to retain the majority of their team.

The same reason we all thought that the Wings would be able to keep Hossa and Franzen.

:P
