Could the Coyotes get best record in the West?

Notice how they are kicking ass without the Great One as their coach, solidifying my opinion that Gretzky was a great player and horrible at coaching/managing things.

This reminds me of one of those zen philosophy questions:

If the Coyotes make the playoffs, but no one is there to see it, did it really happen?

So should I remind you of the 97 playoffs and the white-out at America West (now US Airways) Arena?

Consider this:

1st - We have a majority of transplants who are already fans of other teams (Chicago/Pittsburgh/Detroit/Any Canadian team/etc.) and won't consider another team to be a fan of.

2nd - This team has not had a winning season in almost a decade. This killed an already small fan-base this team had.

3rd - The move to Glendale. This is NOT convenient for us living in the east valley.

4th - Their last home game against Vancouver was 90.3% full. That's pretty good.

The Cardinals had this problem, then they started winning games and they're fan base is HUGE now. People will come to a winning franchise. This hasn't been one, but is on the verge of turning it around.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy for the fans that they do have, I just don't know if making the playoffs will make that much of a difference.

The main problem is that the franchise is still hemorrhaging money even after the league took over, there is talk of a new ownership group showing interest, they have a competitive lineup for the first time in a long time, but is it a good thing for the league to have a franchise that is going to have to rely on profit-sharing to keep them afloat until the fanbase catches on?

Best of luck to them and all, but it is still my opinion that it was a mistake to put a hockey team in the desert, and it is also my opinion that having a loyal fanbase will lead to a successful franchise, not the other way around.
