A lot of the same stuff we've seen lately, and one of the first times I've heard anyone out in the national press other than us saying we should move to the East.

• The Atlanta Thrashers are for sale and anyone with a hockey background would not want to buy the team and keep it in Atlanta, which is why there is word the NHL would not stand in the way of any new owner moving the team in a couple of years. One possibility is Seattle, which would give the NHL another team in the West and, if the Thrashers were to move there, allow the Detroit Red Wings to take their place in the Eastern Conference.

More opportunities to chant "Crosby Sucks!" (Waiting for someone to say, "Why do we always have to talk about Crosby? Wings fans must be jealous or something.")

Seriously though, I like it in the West.

Being the Geographer that I am, IF!! Atlanta were to move to lets say Seattle, I think Geographically Nashville would probably move to the east. Which then Seattle would probably be in the Northwest Division with Vancouver and that would put Minnesota in with the Central! But then again Bettman is in charge!

Columbus is definitely further East than Nashville. Plus, Nashville is in the Central Time Zone, so I don't think they'd be ideal for the Eastern Conference.

The Wings have seniority over those teams. I would hope if a few teams were going to be shuffled around that an original Hockey Club would be given privilege over geography. Still IMHO the Wings in the east is only a pipe-dream. The only way i could see us being re-located to the east is if we face the pens 5 years in a row in the SCF, at that point the rivalry would bring in so much profit you would have to move the wings to the east. That will most likely not happen.

I think Bettman and Ken Holland both have said that the Wings would not be moving East.

Actually I heard Ken Holland, Steve Yzerman, and Ken Daniels discuss this very topic in person at the season ticket fan appreciation event summer of 2008, Holland said that he has discussed it with the league and that if and when a team moves from the East the Red Wings are first in line to move to the eastern conference, he sited ratings for the reason the league was so keen on the idea. The Red Wings are one of the highest television rated NHL teams but people aren't staying up and the cannot feature Wings vs. _______ (insert West coast team) nation wide when the games are starting at 10-10:30 pm. Maybe things have changed since then so take it for what you will!
