Esquire 324 Report post Posted March 26, 2010 While not as statistically important as the games before this, I think this game will be an indication as to whether or not this team's "killer instinct" at an acceptable level going into (hopefully) the playoffs. A win tonight, while not exactly mathematically eliminating them, could crush the spirits of idle Calgary after the Isles served them up to us for a kill shot last night and can also keep us in the middle of the Western pack. Hot damn, what a great time for hockey. GO WINGS GO!!!

Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted March 26, 2010 From the Freep: Birthday boy, Red Wings goalie Howard in Calder conversationGoalie is 26 today, has 30 wins and starts tonight Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard has a few reasons to celebrate. He earned his 30th victory of the season in Wednesday's 4-2 victory over Blues. And today, his 26th birthday, he'll be making his 21st consecutive start when the Wings host the Wild. Asked after the game about win No. 30, Howard said it wasn't an individual accomplishment. "It's great, but it comes with the team playing well," he said. "It's definitely not something I see as an individual stat." The Wings are in a fight to make the playoffs, and Howard isn't concerned about any mental or physical fatigue. "When you're out there and you're constantly playing, it's easy to shrug things off," he said. Veteran goaltender Chris Osgood said Howard should be proud to hit the 30-win mark. "When you do stuff, you don't realize at the time how difficult it is until you haven't or you've gone through it over and over again," Osgood said. "It's difficult to get 30 wins year after year after year. It means you have to be consistent all season long. It doesn't happen by accident." With his performance, Howard has put himself in the conversation for the Calder Trophy, which goes to the league's rookie of the year. Howard is 30-15-9 with a 2.29 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage with one shutout. Those numbers compare well with the three previous goaltenders who captured the Calder: • Columbus' Steve Mason won last season as a 21-year-old. He was 33-20-7 with a 2.29 GAA, a .916 save percentage and 10 shutouts. • Andrew Raycroft won with the Bruins in 2003-04 at age 23. He went 29-18-9 with a 2.05 GAA, a .926 save percentage, three shutouts. • Evgeni Nabokov won in 2000-01 with the Sharks when he was 25. He went 32-21-7 with a 2.19 GAA, a .915 save percentage, six shutouts.

This should get us all pumped up. Fantastic. Although I was too young at the time to really understand the significance and magnitude of what I was witnessing, to this day, watching those clips still gives me the goosebumps - the good kind. (P.S: Long time lurker, new member. Feel free to give me a, "Hey Champ! Good to have you" or similar generic, introductory banter.) 1 dat's sick reacted to this
