germanwing 154 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 Lids leads in pts and goals. But i do hope, that he will stay for about 5 mil. If he wants to play for another SC, he will accept a lower salary!
SwedeLundin77 460 Report post Posted May 10, 2010 Yzerman, like Lidstrom, was a pimp still in his final days. Put up decent numbers, nowhere near as good as before, and was a playoff contributor. He also took quite a salary reduction in his last season here to help the team. Lidstrom is born from the same cloth, as in he'll put his team first and do what's best to make sure he can play with some of the best players. The guys is filthy rich, and will always have a job waiting in the NHL after he retires. I'm not say we would start out offering this, but I could honestly see Lids taking as low as 2 million for a 1 year contract. Boom. Roasted. Does anyone else like the idea of us possibly picking up a Lombardi from the UFA market? I think he'd be just what we need on our 3rd line. Energy!
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted May 10, 2010 I'd keep Lilja for around $1m. trade Kronwall for a second line scorer. buyout or trade both Ozzie and Draper. And don't forget, trade Hank, Dats, Hudler, Howard, and Franzen for Ovechkin. Washington might go for that deal, although it is in favor of Detroit.

SwedeLundin77 460 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 Replace Drew Miller with Shawn Thornton and replace Anton Volchenkov with Sheldon Brookbank.Highly doubt Lidstrom would take 2 mil. I don't understand why it is so hard to believe that Lidstrom "may" take 2 million for a 1 year contract being this close to retirement. Yzerman did the same thing, if memory serves right, I believe Yzerman only made 1 million in his final season. And we would have payed him 5 million to stay I'm sure. Hell, I think he only made around 2 million the year before his last season. If Lidstrom taking less money means the team will be more competitive, he will. germanwing 154 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 2 mil for Lids?? No way! Lids still plays on a high level. And he has played the most minutes per game! Yzerman played limited icetime in his last years. So you can´t compare this! I hope, that Lids will resign. 4 - 4,5 mill would be nice!

king_malice 17 Report post Posted May 17, 2010 You have to think to though if Kenny asks to take 2mill 1yr and says it would give the Wings more cap to go out and get someone else and help the team try and Win one more Cup before he retires. Then you also have to think if Lids is coming back for one more its not to not make the playoffs or go out 2nd round again, its at the chance to win one more cup, and knowing by his pay cut he could help the Wings get some depth he might do it. I was kind of hoping Miller would stay and maybe be used as bait to lure Ryan Miller here when he decides he wants to play for a team with a chance at winning a Cup. Didnt Ryan Miller just sign a ext. this season ? RedFX 48 Report post Posted May 18, 2010 Both Eaves and Miller have earned their spots for next season. That being said, the fate of both guys really relies on what else happens this offseason...both personnel and cap-wise. Lidstrom could take some sort of a paycut, but not a substantial one like for 2 million a year. I think same goes for Holmstrom. You'd also had to figure Bertuzzi would come back at around the same salary or maybe a slight payraise.

Miller was getting as much time as Helm during the playoffs and considerably more than Eaves. Hard to argue that Eaves and Helm were amazing while Miller didn't do much. Miller was just as key to the PK, and the only one who saw real PP time. Miller, Helm, and Eaves are pretty much equal offensively and defensively. Expecting the Wings to drop Miller just because you like the other two better is silly. Helm will stay, there is a good chance Miller and Eaves will both be re-signed but the Wings may lose one to waivers depending on training camp and final roster decisions. mmamolo 287 Report post Posted May 20, 2010 Let's look at this lineup from a cap hit perspective. Oh, and we're adding Ritola because he's out of options. 14 skaters currently signed for a $43,662,876 cap hit. F: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Filppula, Hudler, Cleary, Draper D: Rafalski, Stuart, Kronwall, Ericsson, Kindl G: Osgood, Howard So add RFA contract deals for: The next four are all PK specialists receiving small raises Helm ($1m) Miller ($750k) Abdelkader ($1m) Eaves (1m, his raise is likely slightly bigger than the other three due to his buyout ending) Ritola (650k, minor raise pluse a promotion to the NHL) and UFA deals for Holmstrom ($2m, he'll probably take a paycut if he doesn't retire) Bertuzzi ($2.5m, as he'll want some thing more than $1.5m because his buyout is ending - He is making $3m this season, half from the Ducks.) Lidstrom ($4.5m tops to allow for more cap space) Lilja (1m, if not less assuming he doesn't retire due to injuries) Let's see how that adds up. Overall, with these numbers, it goes over the cap by $363k. Without Ritola, obviously it does not. Probably some players' cap hits will be different to a degree, but the overall should be fairly similar if you try and keep all of these players. It's likely only one of Bertuzzi and Holmstrom return, which would solve the cap issue quickly and easily. While there's nothing wrong with your salary estimates (and they very well could end up being right) in my opinion they're a little high - except fo Lidstrom. We just saw Ritola signing a 3 year deal @ 525k/yr. Honestly, I used to think LIdstrom would be at that $4.5-5M/yr range but now I really dont know so in my mind it's a crap shoot. But now way does Bertuzzi get $2.5M/yr. I think it's $1.75/yr tops. IF Lilja returns you're probably spot on with your $1M/yr estimate. As for Helm and Eaves I'm not entirely sold on them getting $1M/yr each but this one really could end up being right but I'd imagine it's more in the 800-850k/yr ball park. Holland says he wants a tougher team to play against, they will probably use Millers spot to sign a tougher guy to play against who is just as good at other facets of the game. KDDRWINGS1 9 Report post Posted May 30, 2010 (edited) Holmstrom has taken more punishment than any other Wing so if any player deserves a raise it's Homer. Plus he's the one who got us in the playoffs this year. The problem is he is 37 and his body won't hold up like Lids has over a multiyear deal/raise. If he wants a multiyear deal it has to be at the same rate. Otherwise Kenny has to decide is worth letting a fan favorite go to bring in youth that may play a different game but be more durable over the years of his contract or keep a guy out of loyalty. If Lidstrom retires he's probably taking Homer and Draper with him, hopefully its after this season after winning another cup.
