FunkedUp 29 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 Goalies in the playoff hunt and number of playoff games played Goalie GP 1.Evgeni Nabokov - 65 2.Antti Niemi - 0 3.Roberto Luongo - 22 4.Ilya Bryzgalov - 18 5.Pekka Rinne - 0 6.Jimmy Howard - 0 7.Jonathan Quick - 0 8.Craig Anderson - 0 This is actually really incredible. 5/8 goalies have ZERO playoff experience. Nabokov and Luongo aren't exactly proven warriors either.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 Those Bryzgalov games can't all be starts, can they? He was mostly a back-up in Anahiem with the exception of the playoff time Giggy missed in Bryz's last year there.
Carman 387 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 There isn't a goalie in the Western Conference that's a proven playoff winner. Awesome.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 Those Bryzgalov games can't all be starts, can they? He was mostly a back-up in Anahiem with the exception of the playoff time Giggy missed in Bryz's last year there. In 2006 Bryz played half the Calgary series but played all of the Edmonton series, and had like 4 games the next year when Giggy was the true starter. FunkedUp 29 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 I'm pretty sure that Bryz, Nabby, and Lu all have records under .
titanium2 867 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 Here's this little tidbit on Niemi. Take it for what it's worth. http://www.canada.com/edmontonjournal/columnists/story.html?id=18b5857a-197b-4526-8565-3ddaf5f27af3Scotty Bowman is raving about goalie Antti Niemi, 25, who's lighting up the AHL. "He's played five games, has been first star in four of them, his save percentage is over .950 and he's got a 1.56 (goals against) average. I know it's only the American League but (Detroit Red Wings ace scout) Hakan Andersson said at the same age, Niemi is ahead of where (current Wild goalie) Nicklas Backstrom was when he played in Finland," said Bowman. "Niemi is big and when the puck's around the net, he looks like (Roberto) Luongo down low."
Death Warrant 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 I'm pretty sure that Bryz, Nabby, and Lu all have records under .500 Bryzgalov is .643 (9-5) Nabokov is .508 (32-31) Luongo is .500 (11-11)
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 Bryzgalov is .643 (9-5) Nabokov is .508 (32-31) Luongo is .500 (11-11) The NHL is definitely getting younger, and the goalies are reflecting that. You are now getting a lot of goalies with limited playoff experience. It is not as much of a knock as it used to be, because so many are the same.
