Crosbys first 50 goal season

I definitely agree that there's no reason for the hate here. The kid got his 500th point last night. That's pretty sick.

Dude the entire East is like that. There's a reason why the top 3 goal scorers are from the Least.

OR maybe the entire East is like that BECAUSE there are players like that. Maybe Florida, Tampa Bay etc. are bad because the play against Ovechkin all the time?

Bottom line is that this is a Red Wings forum, and nobody here gives two s***s about Crosby and his 49 goals this season. Majority of the people who bother to post on this forum love the sport for how great it is, and for no other reason. The thing about Sidney Crosby is that he's been built up to be the epic hockey master of all time, some even going as far as to compare him to Gretzky and so on even before he'd blossomed into the player he is today. He has been forced down the throats of hockey fans, and we're being forced to hear his name in nearly every broadcast, even if we aren't playing Pittsburgh. There's a reason why nearly everyone on this board would like to see Stamkos surpass both Ovechkin and Crosby and that's because Steve Stamkos is not being FORCED down our throats. We don't have to hear everyday how awesome and perfect he is - we're able to form our own opinions of him based on his game, rather than have someone elses opinions hammered into our ears day in and day out. There is no denying the fact that Crosby is great and he is an elite player, but I can't help but hate him because of the s***storm created in his name each day by every network/radio station.

Some of you piss and moan about how most of us hate the guy, but even Crosby himself must be on the verge of puking every time he logs onto NHL.com or watches a game on Versus. Take your Crosby love to another forum or just accept the fact that most people here aren't going to want to hear about him. We hear enough about him every time we turn on our TVs, and if anything LetsGoWings should be a sanctuary for us wishing nothing more than to enjoy the sport / team we love without the irritation of, "Crosby scores most," "Crosby Better Goalie than Brodeur," or "Sid the Kid : Olympic God."

It feels like this whole thing is like a bad joke and those of you who support him just don't get it. Go Stamkos.

And I'm not even going to bother posting the numerous incidents Ovechkin has been in trouble for (and I love Ovechkin).

You people are completely asinine in your hate for Crosby. It is borderline pathetic.

It was classy for Crosby to go out of his way to tell people it his Guerin. He could have said nothing and just let it be, but he wanted to make sure the right player was given the goal. If a Wing captain did the same thing they would be heralded on this board for being such a classy move. But because Sid the Diving Whining Cheapshotting, no Defensive talent, Douchebag did it there has to be SOMETHING to discredit what he did. Just something.

Hate him or not, that is a classy move for any player.

Basically, Freedom of opinion is not tolerated unless said opinion matches your own?

And just because sid makes a classy move for one of his teammates does not excuse his childish behavior in losing situations.

Sid is great when he is winning, but he is a poor sport when he is losing.

I've been getting really accustomed to the irrational hate of Crosby around this site, but the hate got to a new level when I read this the other day....can't remember where, but it wasn't here.

"The only reason Crosby has a lot of goals this year is because he is so selfish" In some people's eyes, the guy really can do no right. When he only gets 35 goals or so.....he's okay, but he doesn't score many goals (even though 35-40 goals is a lot)....then, when he scores more goals...must be because he's selfish.

Read what I said. The term is asinine (also pathetic) which has nothing to do with tolerance.

That would explain why the East's record against the West is so abysmal...

There are a few things that Crosby has done that would annoy wings fans, some of his post game pressers in 08 come to mind. However most of his percieved whiny behaviour in my mind can be put down to passion and a hatred for losing. I can't blame him for that. Ovechkin is the same, sometimes worse (olympics) yet no one seems to care. He literally shoved a fan and i guarantee Crosby will never do anything like that. For such a young kid with so much responsiblity he handles himself very well.

Well sure it does, you are implying that anyone who hates Crosby is asinine ( pathetic ) hence a low tolerance for opinions that may differ from your own.

This is how I perceived the comment, perhaps misunderstood. If that's the case my fault and sorry. But seeing as how I feel my disdain for Crosby is valid and your comment was a broad generalization implying any who may feel a disliking of him is (Pathetic) , I felt the need to defend myself and my opinions. I'll say no more on the subject.

I think he meant you are asinine if you think crosby is a bad player, which would be correct.

If you dislike Crosby for other reasons then thats up to you but if you think hes not a good hockey player then you are flat out wrong. (Not saying that's what you think, just people in general)

Dislike for players happens all the time no matter how good they are, its just the way it is..no matter how irrational the dislike may be.

unfortunately i agree with you. and on top of all the great players ovie plays with, he plays in the weakest division in the league.

32 games/year against atlanta, carolina, florida and tampa. rated 10, 12-14 in the east...weak.

I was thinking about this earlier and I thought I'd test your theory.

Ovechkin has 109pts with 29 of them coming from within his division. That means he scores 26.6% of his points against s*** teams. He plays those terrible teams 39.0% of the year. Know that that means? He gets more points against better competition. That's the exact opposite of what you stated.

What about Crosby? He scores 37.5% of his points against his own division opponents. Dear Lord! Your plan has completely backfired.

Maybe it's just points, right? Let's check! What's this? Who leads the league in goals scored within their own division? Crosby does! Let's check on Ovechkin-- he's got 10 goals in 19 division games. Huh. That means he's still not feasting on a weak division.

Edit: fixed a link.

Maybe I didn't give Crosby fair treatment. Let's look closer at some details, ok?

In 19 games against the Rangers, Islanders, Panthers and Leafs Crosby has 22 goals.

That's right-- he scored 22 of his 49 goals in just 19 of his 79 games. Against the Islanders and Leafs alone he's scored 10 of his 49 goals (in 9 total games against those two terrible clubs).

Now who's reaping the rewards of playing horrible teams?

Oh, and in 5 games against the Islanders he's piled up 12 pts. Just in case you thought it was just the goals he racks up against the worst teams.

Wow! So think what the Western Conference top players would do in the East!

Maybe that explains why Crosby has had two weak Stanley Cup Finals.

Ok one more from Philly!

He's got two more games to get one more goal. Chances are fairly high unless they don't play him. Hope he does get it. Certainly put to rest the notion that he can't score.

This x1000.

One of the best in the game presently, probably a decent/normal guy in the grand scheme of things when nothing is on the line or we're just living our lives and nothing exciting is going on, but when things don't go his way or he loses he takes his frustration way off the deep end and we've all seen that show plenty. Which is plenty more irritating IMO and makes him easier to dislike, generally speaking.

Sidney has 49 goals and 2 games left, Ovi has 50 and 1 game left. Hopefully Ovi he deserves it after owning with 10 less games.

If Stamkos doesn't get it then I'd be more than happy to see Sid take home the rocket.

I'm just so impressed the way he has taken the criticism on his lack of goals and has come back as a 50 goal scorer. Regardless of your "personal feelings" towards him, you have to respect that. Amazing hockey player.
