Even if Abs does not score he competes. That is all we need. Williams lacks the testicular fortitude to compete and has earned his spot with the Black Aces. I'd sooner put Brad May in the line-up if an injury occurs.

I don't think VS cameras caught Abdelkader's slashing penalty, so I'm assuming it was committed away from the main game flow.

You actually could see it at the very edge of the screen. It was more deserving of a penalty than the one they called earlier in the game, that's for sure.

Yeah that was... . I don't know what that was all about. They don't call that but then immediately after they call Wolski on a slash (that got negated by the goal)??? Isn't that weird to anyone else?

Oh, and also, an interesting tidbit from the Free Press:

Coach Mike Babcock showed his genius in making small changes to the bottom six, inserting Abdelkader and putting him with Kris Draper and Patrick Eaves to create a fast trio that enabled the Wings to roll all four lines and keep from wearing down the top six.

A bottom six with Cleary, Helm, Miller, Draper, Abdelkader and Eaves has some serious speed. Any combination of those guys and you got a line with speed, which means it can't really be the reason why Babs made that tiny change. But why did Babs make that minor adjustment? Just for a shake up?

I would love to say that Abs spells the end of Williams in Detroit but this cat is like a boomerang, he always comes back to Detroit.

I think Ken Holland has a twitch or tick or something that as soon as he sees Willy available he can not nay he must not refuse he has to sign him, and then get rid of him first chance he gets.

Then the next time Willy is available, boom Holland's illness kicks in again and Willy is in the Winged Wheel, and just when I thought it was safe.

From Toronto Star :

...

Abdelkader was called up from the minors at the end of the season. The main reason he wasn’t with Detroit earlier was his salary: The Wings were pressed up against the salary cap and couldn’t use him.

But the salary cap doesn't apply in the playoffs — the players have already been paid, and there are no salaries in the playoffs. That means teams with deep pockets — and a deep farm system — could have an advantage in the playoffs that doesn't exist in the regular season.

Coyotes GM Don Maloney said he hadn't even given a second thought about the potential advantage deep pocketed teams could have.

“I'll have to sit down and have a beer and think about that,” said Maloney. “But it is interesting if you’re a market that can throw $10 million (U.S.) in the minors and call them up.”

...

Is he bitter that the League is paying the bills for his team?

Just because we're good at drafting and have excellent players every year that have to be squeezed out down to GR.

Which players in GR would get a spot on another team currently in the playoffs? (yeah playoffs team because them outside of the playoffs are pretty bad)

Kindl in Washington? He's bad defensively but has some offense. Isnt that what Washington looks for in defenseman?

I would think Ritola would land a 3rd line gig in Pho, LA, Nas, Mon(probably 4th), Bos(4th again), Van (4th) probably a couple of others as well.

I could see Janik as a#6 guy on most teams.

There are a few guys I could see on other rosters.

As mentioned above Kindl as well, maybe Tatar with the hot year he had on one of the bottom 2 or 3 of each conference. If he were in the Nas org and playing the way he did this year I bet they would have brought him up. Most teams not named Det would have given that kid a shot this year.

Not saying all would be as successful as Abdelkader in those roles, but I could see them happening.

In the press conference after Game 4, Babs said that next year they will put Abdelkader on the PK from day one. Now, sometimes Babs says things and then they don't actually come true as far as the lineup goes but let's forget about that for now.

I really like the PK rotation as it is.

Helm-Eaves

Cleary-Miller

Helm-Eaves

Zetterberg-Filppula

Abdelkader will supposedly take one of the spots. Helm, Eaves and Miller will all be RFAs come July. I thought that Kenny would want to re-sign all three of them because they've been really good for their roles. Does Babs' statement imply that they don't intend to re-sign one of those three?

Or on a rather positive possibility, does that mean Babs will take Eaves off the PK so that he can play the right point on the PP? I hope for this one.
