The guy is still the most one dimensional player I think I've ever seen. 57 points doesn't mean that much when you can't play on a 2nd line because youre not responsible enough defensively

Weird. And I always thought you need to be more defensively responsible when playing in the 3rd line.

By the way. I think it's good that we don't put too much money getting more two-way guys as we already have a bunch of them. Why do we need Hudler to be on the PK? We could get some guy with Hudler's offensive abilities plus great defensive talent but it would also mean much bigger cap hit. We have Zetterberg, Filppula, Datsyuk etc. great two-way players. Zetterberg and Datsyuk both had only 70 points this season. I think we need some pure offense rather than more two-way players.

Agreed - although I will say 57 points is pretty impressive considering his ice time, but I dunno if he can repeat, or get even more with the same ice time year after year...Guess we'll find out soon enough.

I'm sure he'll put up good numbers but with more ice time I really doubt he would get alot more points. Playing against better competition would effect his points per time on ice drastically. Plus the fact that he is a PP specialist getting points really stacked his numbers. He also was on a third line that this year has a 30 goal scorer and Flip who has came out as a legit top 6 forward. It wasn't your average third line. I'm not mad to have him coming back but I would be happier trading him for someone that can play offense and defense. 3 million could get us a pretty solid second liner.

I would say it is pretty likely considering he has improved since he started in the NHL.

Plus the fact that he is a PP specialist getting points really stacked his numbers. He also was on a third line that this year has a 30 goal scorer and Flip who has came out as a legit top 6 forward. It wasn't your average third line. I'm not mad to have him coming back but I would be happier trading him for someone that can play offense and defense. 3 million could get us a pretty solid second liner.

That's how I've always felt; more minutes doesn't always = more points, or better overall performance.

IMHO more ice time for Hudler would most likely = more exposure of his faults ie lack of speed, lack of defensive ability, and getting knocked around more by the other teams top Dmen due to his small frame.

You really think Filppula was a top6 player last year or Samuelsson a 30 goal scorer? Also, it's not 3m. Don't change things around.

He scored most of his goals at even strength and had less than half of his points on the powerplay. With such little time who even cares? Our powerplay could use a guy like Hudler.

And who could Detroit pick up at 2.75 or less that would be more valuable than Hudler?

Hudler had 57 points here while playing in 3rd line. I think the chances that Hudler scores 70 points are much bigger than Armstrong scoring 60 points.

Maybe you're the one who should get over yourself, especially as you have basically no proof for your arguments. If one can even call those arguments.

Maybe you should be a fan of some other team if you don't like European players or players who can actually PLAY the game. You know, play with the puck.

What concerns me more than the reg season point totals is what a guy can do in the playoffs...Somewhat slow, defensive liability, lack of physicality aren't traits GMs are looking for when spring arrives.

Hudler's saving grace is his ability for scoring key goals at even strength, and his pp prowess.

I'm not concerned about that as we're still talking about the best offensive guy available on the market for that kinda money.

That may be - however these playoffs are a different breed of animal, and it generally rewards teams whom play a solid defensive game mixed in with success on both the pp, and pk .

Hudler will help out on the pp during both the reg season, and playoffs, but IMO his worth at even strength during the playoffs can be a concern.

His playoff performance last year was a little disappointing. Yes, he did suffer a fairly traumatic hit. The sight of your own blood will do that to ya. Did that make him relatively invisible for the rest of the playoffs? If so then that makes it a little too easy for other teams to limit his effectiveness.
