if Hudler chooses to play in NHL next season he must fulfill NHL arb award, which means Wings have him for 2 years at $2.875M per year.

Once we signed him he performed well.He was a big part of the 08 Cup team and he was pretty consistent last year but this year he seems to be turning it over more often and i just think a guy like Cam Barker would be an upgrade at this point.Supposedly Kenny wants the team getting younger..Dunno why many don't like Rafalski; he is/was a significant upgrade over Schneider, and IMO he's performed quite well since becomming a Red Wing - albeit a few mistakes here, and there.

St.Louis' cap hit is $5.25 million - although he's slated to make $4 million for the 2010/2011 season...Forgive my ignorance, but would the team that trades for him have a cap hit of $5.25, or $4 million
![]()
I honestly think we could afford him - although it would take a few UFA players to take less (if they were to re-sign Lidstrom, Lilja, Holmstrom, etc, etc), and of course there's the possibility of 1 of our players from our current roster (other than Hudler) would be a part of the trade (more cap space).
I don't think it'll happen; my guess is Holland is looking to re-sign guys that currently playing for us, and he'd hate to give away players/picks for a guy who could walk after 1 season.
Cap hit is 5.25, which is an issue that was brought up regarding Zetterberg's and Franzen's front-loaded contracts.
St. Louis's cap would only be 2.15 mil less than Lidstrom's current contract, and considering nobody is as valuable as Lidstrom is he would be top priority signing wise even if Holland thinks of trying to nab Marty.

Well we are seeing "younger" guys filling the holes on our forward lines, and we now have Ericsson on D...That said I dunno if we'd want to see too many youngsters on our blueline; seems as though a veteran core with a dash of youth works out best, or so it has with the Wings.Once we signed him he performed well.He was a big part of the 08 Cup team and he was pretty consistent last year but this year he seems to be turning it over more often and i just think a guy like Cam Barker would be an upgrade at this point.Supposedly Kenny wants the team getting younger..
If anything we could add more size; just like Anaheim - Phoenix is playing a ruff & tumble style; so far we're holding up

Martin St.Louis has made it known that he wants outta Tampa...Dunno if they'd want Hudler, but you can bet I'd love to see St.Louis wearing the Winged Wheel!
You can bet I'd love to see the salary cap no longer exist!

How can this be good from your point of view? He's one step closer to being a Red Wing again.

Shut up fan babies. Hudler worked his ass of here and made a business decision. Find me one player that improved over the 2 or 3 year span that he did. I for one will welcome him back at 2.x mil. Trade him later if need be.

Huds went to where he would making double the money he would here. And we are talking about 2.5 mil more, they dont tax their players over there. He would be a dumbass to turn that down. Also, Huds has kept in touch with several players and Kenny. He is not a bad guy, he left for money. Can you blame him? I would love to have happy Huds back in the Winged Wheel. Jagr said the practices over there are much harder, and the larger ice requires you to be in much better shape. Huds had a lot more ice time over there too. Hudler would be in much better shape, and im guessing he would be a bit of a better player also.
Sure but as we saw in the Olympics unfortunately you had a bunch of European players who were probably in great shape but still didn't handle the smaller rinks and physical contact as well as the North Americans. Hudler has to get used to getting hit and having very little room again, but at least it shouldn't take him very long.
You think he's improved his skating speed and agility? No? I hope so.

Wasn't the much anticipated Igor Grigorenko pretty much gassed most of the training camp, and by no means ready for the NHL?Huds went to where he would making double the money he would here. I have a hard time believing Jagr.

Bert probably will be the odd man out.Kenny has already said that he wants Hudler back. So it looks like he will be a Red Wing next season. The question is whether or not he re-signs Bertuzzi. If Bert is not in the top 6 group of forwards then there is not much use keeping him. With Z, Dats, Homer, Flip, Mule and Huds then Bert could be the odd man out.
Franzen-Datsyuk-Homer
Filppula-Z-Hudler
Cleary-Helm-Eaves
Draper-Abdelkader-Miller
Those guys are all already signed or RFA's/UFA's with signs pointing to them being back.
Ritola is out of options so he will be up as well.
That means this team already has 13 forwards. Hudler is their offseason move.

Estimates have the NHL salary cap, which increased by only $100,000 this season to $56.8 million, moving to about $58 million next season.

If this is true the 1.2 million from here, + the 1.5 million from Williams leaving = Jiri Hudler's cap hit.
Its possible that Bert and Hudler could be back next season!

If you had the opportunity to improve your career elsewhere by possibly improving your talents and making more money, you'd do the same, regardless of your line of work. Hockey/professional sports is no different for a large majority of the people who work there. Of course they want to do good for the team they work for and their employers at the time, but you are going to be selfish by default and possibly go for a better opportunity elsewhere if it presents itself, it's natural.
Only reason why people are getting in a tizzy over this is because it is their favorite professional sports team.
Hudler did what he think he needed to do to improve his career and earn more money in the process. Good for him. Didn't quite work out. Loyalty to an employer is a great and honorable thing, but sometimes you need to take chances though and no reason to hold him against that.
Wouldn't mind having him back here, he did very well in his defined roles here more often than not as a PP specialist and typically 3rd-line time.
