Guest micah Report post Posted April 26, 2010 Is that everything a hockey player should be? What about skill, intelligence, hockey sense, scoring ability, courage, skating ability, mental toughness and tactical knowledge? I think Doan is far from a complete hockey player. I'm not saying he lacks everything above, but those are IMO maybe the most important qualities. I of course didn't list toughness etc. because I know you already kinda mentioned them. Those things go without saying - all of those things are, at least to a certain level, results of honesty and hard work. There are very few if any great hockey players who got to be great hockey players without busting their asses in practice and honestly critiquing their own game and working on its weaknesses. Nero 20 Report post Posted April 26, 2010 I started liking Shane Doan when he was dedicating his shoot out goals to his daughter during the All-Star game.. but his hits make me hate him.. and his potential to eliminate my favorite team. I'm a sore loser, I know.

Of course you need to work hard and you can improve certain aspects by doing that. I'd also like to know how much it is about talent and how much it is about hard work, too bad neither of those things can be measured. But I though you meant hard work on the ice. Manoir 70 Report post Posted April 26, 2010 I've seen the Coyotes play a lot this year, it's impossible to not admire that team. I thought they had heart before, now they are playing without their top 2 wingers, Doan and Upshall and are still competing at a incredibly high level. Amazing. Also, reason# 12,323 why Brian Burke sucks, not picking Yandle for the American olympic team.
motorcitykid 42 Report post Posted April 26, 2010 I hate them and can't wait for this series to end so I don't have to see their dumb jobber faces anymore. Obviously, you guys are all bandwagoners since you don't hate Phoenix enough. Some fans you are. ^^ This.Like them? Well yes they ain't Anaheim Pittsburgh or the Sharks but Phoenix is just boring to me. Let's see: they were schooled out the rink twice, got lucky twice and deserve the other win. But they are just too blah for me. If not for Schneider shooting over and over and over again, just what will anyone remember about these guys once we open the 2nd round on Friday?? And Doan is a beast of a player; the only guy really worth watching but because he wears a Coyote on his chest everyones blinded by that. He's everything you want in a player. Cmon. Yzerman#19 17 Report post Posted April 26, 2010 Much respect for Bryz, Doan & coach Tippett. But I can not tolerate their "fans" or the city of Phoenix. They don't come close to deserving a team, much less one as good as the yotes. I still think they will eventually be relocated.
Manoir 70 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 What I really like about the Coyotes is that they didn't become good just by accumulating top 5 picks like Pittsburgh,Chicago, and Washington. They made shrewd pickups(Bryzgalov),inexpensive signings(Vrbata, Fiddler, etc), and some great late round picks(Yandle, Michalek).
Ozzy318 3 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) I am starting to respect their team, but I am losing respect for their fans. I look forward to the day when the yotes move. Edited April 27, 2010 by Ozzy318 1 2guns reacted to this

RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 I can't understand the Doan hate, I'd friggin LOVE to see him wearing the Winged Wheel. That guy's got tons of heart. The yotes are playing at the top of their game, which ultimately has showed they just are a hair short on being great. The Wings turn it on and they're easily 30% "more" than the yotes, and it's showed a couple times in this series. The problem is that the Wings appear to be disinterested or just not really trying some games. Me too. Would be excited to get Doan as a Wing. I feel bad for the guy. Hasn't seen the postseason since 02 (tells you how spoiled we are). Could have run our goalie but purposely overskated him and took himself out - of the series. Yeah he was laying the hard hits in the first few games - but hell i was wishing the WINGS were doing that. You are right the Wings are only showing up in spurts - for some reason (?). Too many years of going deep is catching up - sadly. I hope the Wings pull it out tomorrow, but if not I got no problem with the Yotes and will pull for them to beat the Sharks... 1 2guns reacted to this
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 Doan would be my favorite player if he was on Detroit, but for now he can f*** off. I dont dislike the Coyotes like I do the Ducks and Pens, but I'll be glad to be done with them after Game 7 and there fans.
2guns 10 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 Yeah, if the desert dogs pull out a win tomorrow, I'll have to root for them the rest of the way. BUT, I still think the Wings will come out on top, even if it's just barely. GO WINGS!
cjm502 165 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 Doan can f*** himself, unless he plays for us of course.
HelmerFan 28 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 Meh, not really. Just because a team beats us a few games and I should give them respect for it? No. Now if the yotes beat us round 1, 3 years in a row or something to that degree then they will earn my "respect".
SuperNovaXll 124 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 They have really grown on me. Every interview I have seen with any of there players, they have had nothing but respectful things to say about the Wings players and organization. While they really seem to respect our team, they also have been playing as hard as they can. I dont believe they are anywhere near as skilled as the Wings, but they are doing there best to make up for that by playing there hearts out. Thats the type of play I can respect. As a few people have said, I just cant seem to hate the Yotes. ...Even with that said, I hope we send them golfing tomorrow... GO WINGS!!!
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 I don't get the Doan hate. He's a complete player, always has been a complete player, and is and has consistently been one of the best wingers in the league for a while now. Sure, he plays in Phoenix. Whatever. He's one of the few guys in the league that can play a strong physical game, contribute well offensively, and perform well defensively all at once. Mike Richards, Brenden Morrow, Z, and Pavs are the only other guys I can think of offhand who really fit into that category, and Z and Dats fit in more based on the fact that they are so difficult to push off the puck or beat in the corners than laying on powerful hits and such. Notable guys who could fit the bill with some work are Iginla, Thornton, Getzlaf, Franzen, Hossa, Ovechkin, Lecavalier. I have wanted Doan in Detroit for YEARS. b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 Normally when we are in the playoffs I begin to despise the other team. This time around though I seem to respect them more and more. The wings are not playing awful... yea some of our players need to get hot and score some goals but not awful. Anyway anyone else really beginning to respect Phoenix throughout this whole series? (The only player I cannot stand is Doan... I cannot stand the guy.) I can't stand him in the sense that "damn, he is killing us out there, wish he was on our team". I would love to have a player like Doan on the Wings. A player like that could almost single-handedly energize his entire team with his physical play, attitude, and clutch scoring ability. Guest micah Report post Posted April 27, 2010 But we already have lots of players like Doan. Players that hit everything that moves, fight a couple times per year, are vocal and able to take over a game when the team needs it most and score at least 50 points a year? The haven't shown up for some of the games. Just like Shawn. Who's Shawn?

Jericho613 74 Report post Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) Yeah I've gained a lot of respect for them. If they do beat the Red Wings they will have my support the rest of the playoffs. The Red Wings will win tonight though, but damn if this isn't something good the Coyotes can build off for future success.
