Bring on the Sharks --- Again!

This is the series lots of us were looking forward to having last season...but my boys pulled the usual and took off early for the putting greens. I'm pumped at the chance to exercise the demons of seasons past...and there's no better way than by playing the wings. To be the best, you have to beat the best. No team has been on top for longer than you guys. It should be a freakin' awesome series. If Thornton, Patty, and Heater get it going I love what this team is capable of. If they remain missing in the postseason, I don't like our chances.

Very very ready for this. Good luck.

Stop making us like you guys!! Haha.

Naw but honestly it's a nice change of pace from Ducks fans, Pens fans, Hawks fans, Pens fans, Ducks fans, Pens fans oh and uh, Pens fans. But I do expect a handful of ****** Sharks fans to come on here. Lucky for them, a few fans like you guys have set the bar so we won't get annoyed as much on here.

This is an incredible opportunity for the Sharks, imo. They have a chance overcome whatever mental or emotional obstacle that's in the way of their success. And in a big way. A win for them could do wonder for that franchise.

I think this will be easier than the phoenix series. We had their number in the season, even when we were missing players.

They play the same system as us for the most part(for obvious reasons)...we're just better at it.

Go Wings.

Every fan base has douchebags. Some even figure out how to use the internet. :P

I see it the same way...the Sharks can't ask for a better opportunity. Granted, whatever team wins this series still would have 2 very tough teams in their way, but make no mistake, this is HUGE for the Sharks players, management, fans, and everyone else you could associate with it.

I've been on here since late in '08...always enjoyed it here.

Pens fans are terrible. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Ducks fans aren't so great either, although Duck Guy has been a good poster here for a long time. Hawks fans are still fairly infantile and on the large have hockey inferiority complexes when it comes to the Red Wings as their team was terrible for quite awhile and was regularly slapped around by our team.

I liked the Sharks fans who showed up here three years ago.

Howdy Boy's

Looks like we finally get the match up we all wanted. Here is to an entertaining series. I'd wish you luck but you don't need it with all that talent.

Go Sharks!!!!

I don't know, man. Sharks are really talented too. It's going to be interesting.

This thread is an unprecedented example of co-existence between two fanbases on the internet. Love it.

There will be some s*** talking sooner or later. Pretty soon we'll see the ugly side of them. Then we'll see how LGW responds.

Looking forward to an awesome series with the Wings. I'm hoping that this may finally be our 1997 -- after years of regular season success and a Pres Trophy, I'm hoping that this may be the year we can finally break through. Just as the Wings had to go through the Avs to get to their first Cup in 40 some-odd years, I'm hoping that if we can get past the mighty Wings we can possibly get to our first Cup in 20-ish years of existence.

As someone said upthread, to be the best you have to beat the best. So I'm with titanium2 in thinking that this is an opportunity for the Sharks to really grow from past experience and overcome whatever the hell has kept us from reaching that next level since the lockout. Looking forward to the challenge.

Here's to a great series without injury. May the best team prevail. :)

Oh, and FYI -- Duck "fans" are the worst people in the universe; completely ignorant of the game's history and rules, drunk on recent Stanley Cup sucess (barf!) and mostly ignore their team (and also by virtue of being from SoCal from which all evil originates). But I digress.

When the talent actually shows up. :P

That is most definitely an issue that will plague both teams. All throughout this year I've thought the Wings were just beat the hell up from many deep playoff runs. Some games they really look like that and some games they manage to pull through. One of the first thoughts I had after watching Game 7 was, "Well where the hell did that come from? They take some sort of hockey viagra or something?"

So consistency is definitely an issue for the Wings right now. They performed awesome in Game 7 and then watch they'll sleepwalk through the first period on Thursday. Who knows? I mean, I really have no idea how I feel about this series.

I don't want to start a new thread so I'll just ask the question here.

Matchups?

Obviously the Pavelski line is playing well for the Sharks right now. Better than the big three. Do you match Zetterberg or Datsyuk to that line? Or perhaps Helm or Abdelkader? Not bloody likely.

I think Zetterberg relishes having to play against Thornton. At the same time I want Pavelski's line to be neutralized as much as possible. Not sure if I like the idea of a recovering Franzen having to go up against Clowe.

It'll start Thursday given the concerts scheduled this weekend. No doubt about it.

As far as the next round, I'm really excited, but realistically, we're going to have to play a whole lot better and more consistently to win. San Jose's got a lot more firepower than Phoenix and Phoenix still lit us up in 4 of the 7 games. We got lucky when we pulled out game 2 despite a sloppy effort, as in the end, it was the difference most likely. But if we give San Jose four sloppy efforts, they'll win four games and the series. I'm not trying to be pessimistic, and I'm pumped, but this series was not comforting to me considering it's only going to get harder from here on out.

Then again, can the Sharks really win? That'd put them in the semi's...that can't really happen, can it? It's the Sharks, they always blow it...

Well, yeah, I'm pumped...can't wait for Thursday!!!

I think the Sharks are more prone to sloppiness in the playoffs, particularly Nabakov. Although he was good in his final 2 games of the series, I'm not going to underestimate his ability to drop the ball.

I agree that the Wings will get into big trouble if they tempt fate early like they did against the 'Yotes, but it's hard to imagine the Wings flubbing a few games, meanwhile the Sharks remain perfect playoff role models. Wouldn't that be the day?

The lines are good as they are I think. The Hank, Flip and Bert line is firing on all cillinders, but even with Hank there it's not first line material. So unless Babs breaks up this killer 2nd line, the matchup will have to be Pav > Thornton, which is fine, Pav is the 2 time Selke winner afterall.

It works out anyway, Hank matching up against a similiarly hot second line is something to be optimistic about, with his shutdown and offensive ability.

3rd and 4th lines just need to keep doin' what they're doin', they're beautiful.

Could be the best thing to happen to the Sharks.

If they get by us, they put the 'choker' label to rest, as well as give themselves a great shot at a Cup. And even if they lose, there's no real shame in it.

No shame? You realize they are picked as a potential Cup winner right? They DO NOT get off this easy. They won the West. They ARE the favorite and if they lose it will very much indeed be labelled chokers yet again. Noone expects us to be here. s*** look at NHL.com. They have a poll asking which team will sin the Cup. Detroit name isn't even in there, along with the Habs. All other 6 teams are! Disrespect is an understatement.

Crush the Sharks. And paste that choker label firmly down their throats!!

And to hell with all these experts ....

Go WINGS!!!

I can see you've been around here for over a year now, but I'm sure we'll see more of you in the next two weeks. So welcome to the boards!

For sure i'll be in here more often and posting more, I only post when somebody says something about the Sharks. Since there is a series between us, i'll post more.

Drop the freaking puck, i want game one nowwwww.

I'm sick of just watching baseball and other teams play. I want the sharks to play :)

Bolded parts, the experts are calling you the favorites because of that reasons. Because we have the choker labels. The Sharks might be the Number one in the western conference, but we have the choker label on us. Many experts have picked us to win the cup the last 4 years,, they gave up on the Sharks and picked the hawks to win the cup.

And pretty much the line of Clowe, Pavelski, and Seto carried us in the first line.

The Stats might not show for Thornton because of Marleau's piss poor play. Thornton was fine, its just guys didn't finish for him. Heatley was pretty much injured the whole series, but he's getting healthy. I'm hoping Marleau is going to step his game, but i doubt it and this might be the last year in San Jose for him if he doesn't step up in the playoffs this year.

Ya I was wonderin why they weren't on there either, but then I realized the Caps weren't on there either. It must have been a poll before last night's game and only included the teams that already advanced.

I actually thought Marleau would step up this year... but alas, he's still being play-off Marleau.
