rbkhockey43 52 Report post Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) If it's home, I don't think I'd worry about it, but then again I've never done it. Just throw it in the late 3rd period if someone gets a goal and the game is tight, if it looks like the wings are going to win, wait to the end. But I mean Al loves the octopus, and loved spinning them over his head, why would they kick you out at joe louis, their home rink? But, they still have the right to throw you out for throwing stuff on the ice, I'd just hope they win and wait 'til the end I'd do it Edited May 1, 2010 by rbkhockey43
Grypho 195 Report post Posted May 1, 2010 Obviously, you'd know to only throw it during a stoppage in play, but whatever you do, don't throw it out there at a time where it could be interpreted as interfering with the actual game. (like after an icing call, prior to or during a PP, or anything that gives either team the appearance or equivalent of a timeout)
titanium2 867 Report post Posted May 1, 2010 Does that penalty rule still apply for those who throw them on the ice at the Joe?
Joseph Franks 17 Report post Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) Does that penalty rule still apply for those who throw them on the ice at the Joe? Throw it, but time it well. Ie. After a Detroit goal is always a good time, because it's a stop in play, and a reason to celebrate. Obviously don't throw it during play, or during a moment that would give the other team an elongated break. Ie.....before our Powerplay. Wait till preferably late in the third period if we're winning, early in the third period if we're losing. Immediately if we go ahead by a goal in the third. They EXPECT Octopi to be thrown onto the ice, and I think the fans, the media, and the the Joe recognizes and accepts the tradition. It became a big deal a few years back because people were getting retarded with it....interrupting play and such. Do it smart, and I think they'll let you slide. Lets face it...we ALL love to see an octopus on the ice from time to time ----------- Random Tidbit: I just learned that Joe Louis was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously. If you don't know the history of Joe Louis, I'd google it. It's good to know what the man that your arena is named after did in his life, and he lead a pretty incredible life. 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted May 1, 2010 I think after Karen Newman is done being a pop star is a good time also to launch one. The only trouble with that is if they do throw you out you have to miss the whole game unless you do like the guy with the extra ticket in Pit. If you do throw it then, remember not to aim it at a person, although you could try for her cleavage since it's not 100% human material. That would be really cool. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this
