Grypho 195 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 So, do you all think I'm sitting here, as a Sharks fan, as calm as the beautiful spring day it is here in San Jose, thinking, "What, me worry? Who cares, it will be a great game, and after all, even if we don't take this one, we do have two more chances after this..."? No. Not at all. Not even last game, but especially not this one. I'm pretty much crapping myself here, thinking, "Oh man, you bastards had better show up to your own party. If you give them any leeway, any leeway at all, they will build on it, and might be as good as dead!" Anybody else out there, besides me, from either team, out of their friggin minds, reaching for Tums, doing some pre-game drinking/numbing/whatever, or otherwise not in a state of absolute zen at the moment? FESS UP!
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 Not really. Not the end of the world if we lose. It was an amazing season to witness either way. The Wings have overcome things this season that would have destroyed most other teams. Everything after making the playoffs is pure gravy. 3 Hockeymom1960, Vladifan and Lidstrom for life reacted to this
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 I'm still confident that the Wings have this series. I wish I could say "yes" I'm nervous, but I'm really stoic about this match-up and have been since Game 1.
WinginCanada 11 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 Nope...I would imagine Sharks fans are more scared of choking . Either way if you told me back in January that the Wings were going to be 5th seed in the playoffs, I wouldn't believe you.
10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 I'm not nervous at all, actually. Also, i havnt even been thinking of the game really. I woke up today, did some stuff came on the comp then remembered, "oh yeah theres a game today". I guess im still expecting the Wings to lose this series. Now, IF the Wings do win tonight and make it 3-2 going back to the Joe i will start to get re-pumped again.

The Wings have overcome things this season that would have destroyed most other teams. Everything after making the playoffs is pure gravy. This. I can honestly say that even if we lose tonight I am still happy with this season and really proud of the way the team responded after all the crazy things that happened this year. Considering that halfway through the year there were threads all over this site saying the wings had no chance of making the playoffs I think we should all be very happy that they not only made it but got through the first round. Yes I am still nervous but thinking about it from that perspective helps.

FESS UP! If I was a Sharks fan, I'd be nervous as hell given your recent playoff history and current moniker of bowing out early. I almost always have nerves when games are going on live. There's anticipation for me before games obviously, but I rarely get too giddy or too nervous or worrysome no matter what the game is. Not really nervous now, if they lose at least they didn't just roll over and die this series from last game's effort so I probably won't be all too disappointed, and while we obviously want Cup every year, to get this far given injuries and the like is a pretty good deal. If/when the Wings get eliminated sooner than later, after the dust and emotions settle that will be a good moral victory/recognition even though it won't count for anything. Raptor1116 11 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 I still think the Sharks will win the series. Now, if we can steal game 5 I'll really think the Wings can come back and win this thing. Game 5 scares me the most though, and I just don't see the Wings coming back to Detroit with SJ in tow.
GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 I'm ready to bash the team at the first sign of losing today. I guess that means I'm expecting a good, desperate performance from us tonight. 1 Vladifan reacted to this

Hey... it's kinda nice to not have any expectations for once. See I don't think the pressure will be on them for Game 5. Now, they end up losing tonight and holy hell, the pressure that the media will put on them will be unseen before AND the doubt will start to creep in their minds from playoffs past, "oh no, not again..." They come back to Detroit for a Game 6 and the weight of the world will be on SJ. We just gotta bring them back for Game 6.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 I've been surprisingly calm this playoffs, I think it's just cause being 33 sports is dropping on the priority list. I would think Sharks fans are more nervous going into this than Wings fans are. It's easier being the team that's trying to make a comeback, than the team trying to close a series out. I was nervous in the 2008 WCF when Dallas won a couple games after we went up 3-0, so I know what Shark fans are going through now. I hope however the series ends, it's the players that decide it, not the refs.

The fact that they are perennial chokers means that pressure sets in much earlier for them. They know that if they lose tonight, in front of their fans, they are in BIG TIME trouble. They may not have the full helping of pressure yet, but they have A LOT more on them than the Wings do.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 Still feeling the effects of having too many wine coolers on Thursday, and I have to work tonight, so I will not be able to drink. Nothing to calm my nerves= nervous as can be. Tonight is probably the biggest game the Wings play all year. The Wings are coming off a huge win, so the Sharks will be looking for revenge. The Sharks also know that they can close things out at home. So many people have counted the Wings out that the Sharks have to win or face ridicule, whereas the Wings face only disappointment should they lose. I'm nervous and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Vladifan 680 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 I'm very proud of the way the Wings came back in game four. They will always be my team no matter what happens. But oh yeah, I am nervous for them. This fact remains. Whoever wins game five in a series more often than not moves on to the next level. Can't tell you the stats, but they are noteworthy. Meanwhile, I want to think that the Sharks will feel more pressure than the Wings, and that the Wings (and Franzen) are in Nabokov's head. GO, WINGS!! Either way, Grypho, I'm going to miss you. You are indeed a class act and I believe, a true hockey fan.
Grypho 195 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 (edited) Either way, Grypho, I'm going to miss you. You are indeed a class act and I believe, a true hockey fan. The feeling's mutual. I don't know if you remember or not, but I only joined LGW a couple of weeks after you did back in 2007, and instantly recognized you when I started posting again this time. If you ever make it to China, send me a heads up first! If there's no hockey playing then, perhaps I can introduce you to, and sell you on, my latest addiction: the intensely exciting Aussie Footie - aka Australian Rules Football. Jibbajaba 14 Report post Posted May 8, 2010 I'm a little bit nervous. I wasn't at all before game 4 because I just figured that the series was over anyway. Seeing that the Red Wings can, in fact, mop up the floor with the Sharks when they're motivated gave me hope. I'm curious to see which Wings team and which Sharks team show up tonight. I'm a big believer in the "Blow-out bounce-back", and we messed the Sharks up pretty bad, so they are going to come out swinging tonight. I'm not really nervous though because I don't think that the Wings are the ones who have the pressure on them. Given our recent playoff history, no one can really give them s*** for being knocked out in the second round. They have played a LOT of hockey in the last three years. The Sharks have reputation that they are trying to shake. The Sharks have a lot of expectations on them right now, between their recent playoff history and the fact that they went up 3-0 in the series. No one really expects the Wings to win this series anymore, and they've been to the SCF the last two years in a row, so there really isn't any pressure on them. I think that we are going to see what the Sharks are all about tonight, and in subsequent games, if any. If they step up to the plate and take care of business then they have earned it. If they don't, then they are just further cementing their status as the biggest chokers in the league - the Buffalo Bills of the NHL. Chris
Ram 240 Report post Posted May 9, 2010 I'm not reaching for Tums or anything like that. I had accepted things after the Game 3 loss. Winning this game, the Wings would just continue to suck me in (which is what I want). But if I was a Sharks fan, come on, it's pure numbers, I wouldn't be that worried just yet. Either way, I'm hoping for a great game tonight. Sports is gonna be overall boring when the playoffs are over. Let's go Wings. (Make it worth skipping my studying for finals!) No, I did not remember that. Wowza! But I'm older and the brain cells are quickly diminishing. Meanwhile, we were in China about two years ago, for about a month. It is the best trip we ever took, bar none. Saw Beijing, Xian and the Terra Cotta warriors, Chongching, (sp?), sailed down the Yangtze, etc., etc. I'll make this quick before it gets deleted. China is probably the most powerful country on the face of the earth and we have every reason to believe that they will be a true power if they're not already. They can do it ALL and with very little mechanization. I never saw a harder working people. Yeah their hierarchy sucks, but it is a beautiful country and so are its people. Over and out! Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted May 9, 2010 This is my cure for the nerves Funny, I never saw Tennents' in Glasgow. I think I missed out Look, deep deep down most of us know the Wings are done, even if we keep hope for something different. We know the numbers, and we know how the story ends. One win doesn't change that. The Wings are playing to live another day, nothing more, nothing else. But we can make a series of it tonight. Go Wings.

I'm a firm believer in positive mental energy that can translate/transmute (whatever the word is I'm looking for...) to physical energy. Problem is, I think I'm in the minority, and you really, really need numbers for something like that to work. They can DO this, and they can do more.
