if lidstrom retires?

if lidstrom does retire and know he is not replaceable, but if we signed Dan Hamhuis and Anton Volchenkov you people be happy?

Dan Hamhuis

Age: 27

Ht: 6-1 Wt: 203

ASSETS: Can play a sound defensive game, log big minutes and also be used in a shutdown role. Moves the puck well out of the defensive zone. Has loads of hockey sense.

FLAWS: Isn't a physical defenseman, which somewhat limits his effectiveness against big NHL forwards. Is also a limited contributor in the offensive zone.

CAREER POTENTIAL: Big-minute defenseman.

Anton Volchenkov

Age: 28

Ht: 6-1 Wt: 226

ASSETS: Is one of the best shot-blocking defensemen in NHL history, and thrives in one-on-one battles against top forwards. Plays with tremendous poise. Has a mean streak and is not shy about hitting the opposition.

FLAWS: Won't scare anybody with his offensive ability, since he lacks confidence with the puck. Needs to pick his spots better when lining up opponents. His shot-blocking leads to injuries, aches and pains.

CAREER POTENTIAL: Excellent shutdown defenseman.

Stewie-Kronner

Raffy-Volchenkov

Ericcson-Hamhuis

Kindl

Meech

What about Brett Lebda and Derek Meech?

Lebda

ASSETS: Speed, not bad looking

FLAWS: Everything other than speed

CAREER POTENTIAL: None

Meech

ASSETS: Can play forward and defense

FLAWS: Is not good at either forward or defense

CAREER POTENTIAL: Could be the next Mathieu Dandenault

I am so on the Volchenkov train... He is such a great player very underrated... Love to see him sporting the Winged Wheel, Still rather see Nick back though. ONE MORE YEAR!!!

How do I feel about Lidstrom's possible retirement after this year?

Exactly

Call me crazy, but I wouldn't be too upset if Lidstrom retires. Nothing against him or his play, I'm just wondering if it's time...

Plus I wouldn't mind having the extra cap money to use in the off season.

Good to see I'm not the only one that feels this way.

As for Hamhuis and Volchenkov, you know some team is going to vastly overpay for them.

I'm a big fan of Volchenkov. He reminds of Vladdy in a way. However, a lot of talk has been coming out from around the team that Lidstrom will play one more year at a significant pay cut.

The Howes changed their opinion?

I like, I like that a lot! For me it's a cap room thing more than anything else.

Is Quincey available?

Anyways I don't know if there is a free agent this year that I would be too excited about.

Then again I have seen what the free agent defense for '11 yet so who knows.

I still think we are going to have to trade for the Lidstrom "replacement" aka First pairing defenseman.

This wouldn't be so funny if it wasn't so true.

Lids takes pay cut, trade Kronwall & Cleary for a top 6 fwd, release Lilja,Lebda and Meech.

Make an offer to Eric Johnson (RFA) try and sign Tallinder as Lids new partner.

Volchenkov will get a big offer from someone and will be out of our range.

Rafalski Johnson

Lidstrom Tallinder

Stuart Ericsson

Kindl

Also bring up Brendan Smith from the Griffs for some games, the sooner we get him in the line up

the better. Think he will be more of a better allround player than Kindl.

Just how high are you?

Kronwall has improved massively. Cleary has an NTC. Lilja is one of the best shot blockers we have.
