1995-96 Avalanche beat Wings, Avalanche win cup.
1996-97 CUP CHAMPS
1997-98 CUP CHAMPS
1998-99 Avalanche beat Wings, Avalnche lose before finals.
1999-00 Avalanche beat Wings, Avalanche lose before finals.
2000-01 Kings beat Wings, Kings lose before finals.
2001-02 CUP CHAMPS
2002-03 Ducks beat Wings, Ducks lose in finals.
2003-04 Flames beat Wings, Flames lose in finals.
2004-05 LOCKOUT
2005-06 Oilers beat Wings, Oilers lose in finals.
2006-07 Ducks beats Wings, Ducks win cup.
2007-08 CUP CHAMPS
2008-09 Penguins beat Wings in finals.
2009-10 Sharks beat Wings, ????
So since the 94-95 season (14 seasons not incl this season or the lockout, either the Wings win the cup OR the team that eliminates them win the cup, with the exception of 3 years (the 99, 00 and 01 champs).
Pretty odd stat over this long of a stretch!!

Why am I a fan of the Detroit Red Wings?
The NHL tweeted my son and I at the 2012 NHL Draft!

But the reputation for choking is still intact until they make the finals

Road to the cup goes through Hockeytown.
Second, absolutely true.
I like the team that kicks Detroit to win because I always feel that the team that beats us has to win the next round, or the wrong team won. Since '02 that has been the case so SJ has to win but that would kill the O-6 matchup, so I am conflicted.
Point is I have a reason to back either team but no reason to like 'couver. In the east, given my O-6 bias, Go Bruins and Go Habs!
I hope they win it. Just so we can tell how we lost to the best.
Exactly to my point of wanting the team that beats the Wings to win at least one more round.

Agreed. Their fans have been through a lot. McLellan is a good coach and wouldn't mind seeing Bab's mentee do well. The only player that bugs me a little on their team is Thornton - but he is actually playing better this year and contributing.I hope the Sharks pull it off. They deserve it this year.
Sharks-Hawks will be a good matchup but I think SJ has the edge in goal and coaching. The West needs to crush the Pens - still hoping Habs do it but they have such a pansy path to the SCF it's ridiculous.

So, in that way, I'd prefer for them to win it over anyone else at this stage. I wouldn't mind Boston or Montreal either but it seems unlikely either can beat the Pens.

Good luck picking a team to cheer for in that sad affair.
