1994-95 Devils beat Wings, Devils win cup.

1995-96 Avalanche beat Wings, Avalanche win cup.

1996-97 CUP CHAMPS

1997-98 CUP CHAMPS

1998-99 Avalanche beat Wings, Avalnche lose before finals.

1999-00 Avalanche beat Wings, Avalanche lose before finals.

2000-01 Kings beat Wings, Kings lose before finals.

2001-02 CUP CHAMPS

2002-03 Ducks beat Wings, Ducks lose in finals.

2003-04 Flames beat Wings, Flames lose in finals.

2004-05 LOCKOUT

2005-06 Oilers beat Wings, Oilers lose in finals.

2006-07 Ducks beats Wings, Ducks win cup.

2007-08 CUP CHAMPS

2008-09 Penguins beat Wings in finals.

2009-10 Sharks beat Wings, ????

So since the 94-95 season (14 seasons not incl this season or the lockout, either the Wings win the cup OR the team that eliminates them win the cup, with the exception of 3 years (the 99, 00 and 01 champs).

Pretty odd stat over this long of a stretch!!

Road to the cup goes through Hockeytown.

I know we just lost to 'em and there were moments of hatred, but as far as the remaining teams go it would be nice to see the Sharks win it. A good way to break the choking rep they've earned.

Well, as a hockey fan, I am going to root for a team to win the Cup that hasn't won it in a while. That means anyone but Pittsburgh at this stage.

Yes, I will even root for the sharks and the hawks.

Two things. First, I was hoping for an Original 6 CF and SCF. There's no O-6 WCF now but still hope for a SCF matchup. So by default I have to hope for the Hawks in the West. Which leads to...

Road to the cup goes through Hockeytown.

Second, absolutely true.

I like the team that kicks Detroit to win because I always feel that the team that beats us has to win the next round, or the wrong team won. Since '02 that has been the case so SJ has to win but that would kill the O-6 matchup, so I am conflicted.

Point is I have a reason to back either team but no reason to like 'couver. In the east, given my O-6 bias, Go Bruins and Go Habs!

I hope they win it. Just so we can tell how we lost to the best.

Exactly to my point of wanting the team that beats the Wings to win at least one more round.

I hate the Canucks, dislike the Hawks, and got nothing against the Sharks, they're my team in the West now. A San Jose Pittsburgh final would be great because San Jose would destroy them. As someone above mentioned it would be cool to see Hossa beat the Pens too, but I can't cheer for a team with Kane over the Sharks, as much as I like Hossa. These things said I would prefer the Pens lose asap.

I hope the Sharks pull it off. They deserve it this year.

Agreed. Their fans have been through a lot. McLellan is a good coach and wouldn't mind seeing Bab's mentee do well. The only player that bugs me a little on their team is Thornton - but he is actually playing better this year and contributing.

Sharks-Hawks will be a good matchup but I think SJ has the edge in goal and coaching. The West needs to crush the Pens - still hoping Habs do it but they have such a pansy path to the SCF it's ridiculous.

San Jose have drafted well (Pavelski, Clowe) made good trades (Thornton) and savvy free agent signings (Boyle) and pretty much built their team from the ground up. They've strived for success for many seasons, like the Wings, but obviously haven't attained it like Detroit has, but they didn't just fall assbackwards into riches via the draft like Chicago or Pittsburgh.

So, in that way, I'd prefer for them to win it over anyone else at this stage. I wouldn't mind Boston or Montreal either but it seems unlikely either can beat the Pens.

My daughter's fiance is from San Jose, so I'll be 'rooting' for them. At least in a 'sort-of-care-a-little-but-whatever' way. Really the only team I don't want to win is the Pens. Not because I hate them, just because they already won one so I want to see someone new.

Sharks will definitely be winning it all, no one in their path now. Definitely better then the Hawks and East won't be winning it this year, even the best team the Pens won't be able to handle the Sharks or Hawks. I'm routing for the Sharks, if the Nucks lose. Otherwise go Nucks!

I am actually going to root for the Sharks, which I rarely do for a team that's beaten us. I kind of want to keep playing monkey in the middle with the cup and Hossa. We all hate Pittsburgh, so basically any team that opposes those two teams.

Sorry but I'm cheering for the Hawks.

Not to personally slam you here. But to cheer for a team that is a true division rival of the Wings, their cocky little s.o.b.'s on their first line, their fans that chant Detroit sucks when were not even playing them, is just blasphemy!

I could and would never cheer for the Hawks.

I hope Eddie O chokes on the bull s*** he spews out of his mouth every broadcast!

I understand you're not slamming me but I have a friend who is a great Hawks fan, been one for years, through thick and thin, and I'd cheer for them because of him. Besides I'm not going to cheer for a team that personally I don't believe earned the right to move on.

Rooting for the Hawks? Seriously?

Duh...seriously!

I'm gonna root for the Sharks, I respect them, I don't blame them for a tough series i blame bad officiating, they deserve to move on, they were one of the best teams in the regular season. I hope they go to the finals and win the cup.
