Why I'm Mad

Now that I've had time to reflect a little on the season, I've come up with a few things that I need to get off my chest before I can start enjoying the off-season...

Why I'm mad:

1) The officiating. I'm not normally one to gripe and make excuses... and I'm not. But I am actually embarrassed to be a fan of the NHL because of them. It's so amateur league that I can barely watch it. It's so bad and inconsistent that I've actually considered NOT watching the Wings and start following the Griffins more closely.

2) The league. I can't believe they can't get their s*** together better and actually come up with a decent, consistent schedule for the playoff games. I understand that things conflict and that the Eagles apparently have more pull than the NHL... but c'mon... the scheduling is atrocious across the league.

3) The linesman dropping the puck. Oh my GOD. DROP THE ******* PUCK ALREADY! Why are they screwing around with it so much? Just drop the damn thing and get the hell out of the way. It's not rocket science. They've even simplified it. HIT THE RED DOT!

4) Babcock. I love him as a coach and a motivational speaker, but I feel like he is too stubborn with his line combinations. It drives me crazy.

Ok... that felt good.

Why I'm relieved:

1) The Wings finally get a nice long rest and will be able to properly reload. Some big contracts are coming off the books and I'm excited to see what Kenny has in store for the team.

2) The emergence of Howard. Hopefully, if all goes well for him and he continues to impress and improve, he will help stop the bleeding when Lidstrom is no longer back there to carry the defense.

3) Leino is gone forever.

4) I no longer feel compelled to head over to that cess pool of trolls known as the HFBoards. Thank God!

How about the fact that Brad May probably won't return?

Meh... I like Brad May. But I liked him a lot more in his prime. Aside from teaching Abby how to throw a few punches, he was never really given an opportunity to contribute. I am a little mad that he never saw the ice in the playoffs. I'm convinced he had another clutch goal or two left to give. Again... no real opinion though because he was never really given a full opportunity, imo. That kinda goes with the 'Babcock stubborness' though.

You're making a statement and not asking a question, and doing so in a stern manner....so expect alot of devil's advocates.

But I agree. Hockey is dead to me until they can fix their officiating issues and their overall bulls***, which has been discussed up and down. From our ridiculous travel schedule, to Bettman's almost comical inadequacies to the officiating that ruins seasons for some teams...it's just a joke.

The NBA had this problem, and didn't fix it. The NFL also had a serious officiating problem, and has actively attempted to remedy said issue once they basically admitted to having a problem. The NFL doesn't have these types of outbursts as much anymore.

Gary Bettman, Mick McGough(sp), Colin Campbell...no one seems to be able to admit the league has any issues to speak of. Headshots aren't a problem until too many people get hurt. Lack of scoring and the trap wasn't ruining the game until ratings dropped.

And thus, officiating won't be an issue until a ref comes out and admits there are serious deficiencies in the way the officiating is being run.

The NHL is the drunk who thinks he can put down the bottle anytime, and won't admit he has a problem. Not admitting it, only begets more problems later.

The only time anyone here admitted there were officiating issues was when it happened to us. That's only natural and I'm not bashing users here but think about it-it existed before us, but we only saw it when we were the victim. That's the problem-there are other people out there with teams who didn't suffer this unfair fate, who think the game is just fine when it's clearly not.

Huh? Never really given a chance? He played in 40 games. He had 1 assist, 0 goals and finished -5. So how many more opportunities to contribute should he have been given? 40 games.

He never saw the ice in the playoffs because he was not able to get anything done in those 40 games.

ANOTHER clutch goal? He scored ONE goal in the last 3 years during which he played in 98 games!

You are not being rational. He could fight PERIOD.

So I have a soft spot for Brad May. Sue me.

I can't wait til 2010 draft. And I can't wait until next years to see how the kids do as a whole (Ritola, Kindl, Abby, Helm, Ericsson, Howard). I'm hoping Ericsson comes back more confident and revitalized.

To be fair, he should have had a goal against Dallas this season, but but Dennis LaRue waived it off. That doesn't change your point though.
