Calder trophy nomination season top 5 SV%/GAA, 30 wins, a game 7 road win and a .915 SV% in the playoffs and he gets called a sieve. Howard did let in a couple of bad goals during both series but for the majority of the time he kept the team in the game when the defense was getting turned around. I, just like everyone, wanted to see the Wings go deep into the playoffs, but you just had a feeling this wasn't their year. Let's walk through the regular season numbers. Brodeur: 45 wins, paid 5.2 million. $115,555 per win. Nabokov: 44 wins, paid 6.0 million. $136,363 per win. Bryzgalov: 42 wins, paid 4.25 million. $101,190 per win. Howard: 37 wins, paid 750 thousand. $20,270 per win. Top ten in wins, a fifth the price. Carman 387 Report post Posted May 10, 2010 (edited) Exactly, unless people want to get rid of Zetterberg to get an "elite" goalie that could still just fall apart (Luongo, Theodore etc.), I'm completely content with having Howard make the first save, he kept the Wings close and we couldn't bail him out. I agree whole heartedly that Howard deserves way more respect than he has been given by many of the posters to this forum! The safe assumption is that Howard has learned a tremendous amount during his first NHL playoff experience. And with that experience should come an increase in confidence, and a goalie to build and reshape this team with. He's earned the starting position next season, and it will be up to someone else to perform and knock him out of it. Good Luck to them. Howard did not have a good postseason by any stretch, but he is a rookie. People need to understand BOTH of those points if they want to truly understand Howard as a goaltender. In my mind he was better than Hasek in 06-07. People need to get realistic expectations, and realize that for the first time in recent memory, our defense was not outstanding by any means. I don't doubt that Price can be a good goalie. I think he's slightly overrated, but here's the question... did the Montreal fans get to him or did he get inside his own head and cause his inconsistencies? Moving forward, will he be effective?
