Jimmy Howard has championship skills

Wings were dominated by SJ in the goaltending area.

Howard was solid in round 1, but totally outplayed by Nabokov in round 2.

With a championship goaltender, the wings would be right now en route for the cup finals.

Nabokov was on the team that won the series but did nothing to impress me at any point. And is currently getting owned by the Hawks. No consistent attack equals no tough saves made by Nabokov in that series really.

videos don't really prove my points but its a Howie love fest here

Maybe when he can:

-Control the rebounds.

-Stickhandle and pass the puck with accuracy.

-Fix that "ozzy-5-hole".

-Stop overplaying certain players in situations like 2on1s etc.

-Stay in position even when there's heavy traffic and not swim like a fish on the ice.

Had to be said, on LGW he's like Messiah and second coming of Patrick Roy or something.. GET REAL.

I'll settle for him having been Detroit's Messiah this season.

He got us where we were in the playoffs and also couldn't make some routine stops in the SJ series. Inconsistency aside, you can't play every game like you're Jesus in goalie pads. I'm content, however, with knowing that he will recover and be even better next year.

Yes the goalie situation in detroit would be saved if kenny holland traded for price but it's not even realistic so i won't bother about it.. i like ken holland in many aspects but i think he doesn't gamble enough, he's playing it all safe.. signing them UFA's and RFA's and maybe maybe sign an undersized 4th line player near league minimum e.g eaves/miller... *meh*

Really don't mean to call you out on that constantly...I just don't see it that's all.

So just to be clear, the argument is that Howard is theoretically better than Leighton and Niemi and thusly he is championship caliber? So Luongo is a champion? Or Nabokov? Or Kipprusof? Or X-goaltender that is better than 5th string tender Leighton or Niemi?

Prove it on the ice. You aren't a champion til you are a champion, period. Fun to speculate and all, but so far not so good with Howard. He'll use this as a growing experience I'm sure, but so far Leighton and Niemi have done far better in their first go-round than Howard did in his. And saying basically "if Leighton and Niemi can do it, anyone can do it, Howard is anyone, Howard can do it" is a pretty feeble argument after going out in 5 games in the second round :P.

He was good in certain games. And brutal in certain games. If he can cut back the workload in the upcoming season and work on the fundamentals somemore, then sure he'll be championship calibre. But if he plays 60+ games and doesnt fix his rebound control and 5hole, then he wont be.

I still love Jimmy and really hope he works out, him going after Crosby gave me hope for him.

I didn't see anything in his play this past year that would make me say "Yes he will be a great goalie someday". He was giving rebounds out like a dinner at a homeless shelter, saves? I didn't see anything that good, thats also a reason he was giving up 4 goals a game in his losses. We need to move on without him. Babs needs to start playing ozzie more so we can use him in the playoffs.

Yep straight hetero man love for Howie

MOST OVERRATED SAVE OF THE YEAR.

The second chance was completely a result of failing to properly control the rebound on the first shot! Yes, the first save looked great, and the second save was a good reaction. But he never has to make that second save if not for his initial rebound failure. If he redirects it properly, the Wings might get to turn that back up ice and get a great scoring chance with Hanzal trapped in the corner like he was.

Laughing out loud at all 3 of you...:D

What's going to be even funnier is all of you will probably be so serious in your responses like, "WHY WON'T YOU OR ANYBODY ELSE BELIEVE ME?!" or "YOU'RE SO STUPID!" or "NICE RESPONSE *rolling eyes*" :P

Thanks for making my morning!

ROOKIE of the year finalist, top 5 in GAA and save percentage rookie year, yup, no other team would be interested. I would hope to god howard has some things to work on because if he didn't i would be afraid hes a magical warlock since hes only a F***ing ROOKIE.

GO WINGS, GO HOWARD

Rookie of the year finalist (Myers will win) because the wings played great team defense during a pretty long stretch when they had all injuries and howard looked alot better than what he really is.
