Yes, everyone who roots for the Hawks for any reason aside from life and death is being a bit of a traitor.

I wish I could say otherwise to appease you, but I have to be honest first and foremost as to my feelings.

I can't imagine any Avs or Hawks fans were rooting for us in the Finals last year.....

You guys do realize that Hawks fans despise the Wings more than any other team. I doubt they've rooted for us in any of our SCF matchups. Why should we root for them? What the hell kind of fans root for their rivals, who hate them in return and say "Red Wings Suck" at every game, even when we're not playing?

And who cares about Pronger already? You hate him more than our biggest rivals in the Conference?

And I say there's plenty of despicable Hawks players. Kane, Bufflin, Kopecky, Hossa, Campbell, Eager. I hate these rejects just as much as the Flyers cast of a-holes.

My suggestion is you get some perspective and maybe grow up a little, or grow a thicker skin.

Essentially, i'm supposed to hate the Hawks because they hate us the most? I guess on some 3rd grade level that might be reason enough.

But personally, what have the Hawks ever done to me as a Wings fan? We beat them whenever we meet them in the playoffs. They didn't go through us this year so it's not like I have any reason to be pizzed at them now.

They have some players that I absolutely love like Seabrook and Keith. Not to mention hard workers like Brouwer and a great player in Byfuglein? Why don't you like Byfuglein? Why's he despicable? Is it all those suspensions he's had? Is it the fighting with a visor that bothers you? Or the cheap shots he's so famous for that have undoubtedly flooded youtube? Please, Byfuglein is the kind of player I'd kill to have on the Wings. He's like a less vicious verson of Ryan Clowe.

Just because you've determined the Hawks are our biggest rival doesn't exactly make it so for everyone. I've never hated the Hawks as much as I hated Colorado. I actually don't hate the Hawks as much as I hate Pittsburgh or Nashville.

Like I said earlier, the Hawks haven't done anything to the Wings in years for me to be pizzed off at them about. Oh yeah, and I'm from fecking Ohio, so I could give a s*** about Chicago anyway, even if they are a divisional rival.

As for the Flyers employing two of the most notorious azzes on the planet, how you can even begin to hate anyone on the Hawks as much as Hartnell and Pronger just baffles my mind. Nobody on Chicago's roster has done anything to the Wings like either of those jerks have...and on multiple occasions.

Hell, the last time a Hawk player ticked me off was probably Enrico Chiccone KO'ing Jamie Pushor. Other then that...meh...I don't have much hate for Chicago. What have they done to us? Nothing. Hating for the sake of hating, or hating them just because they hate us is stupid imo. just sayin.

I guess every person can find a different thing to piss them off as far as players on a different team.

Kane - Punched an old cabdriver. Annoying mouthgard. Looks like some little midget twink.

Bufflin - Fat Albert. Acts tough but hardly fights. Backs away a lot for a guy that size. Has cheap shots. Celebrates disrespectfully like a dumb clown.

Hossa - Traitor. Did s*** for us during that one night stand.

Kopecky - See above.

Sharp - Speared Lidstrom in the nuts. No I don't care that it was supposedly an accident.

Campbell - Ginger boy who's overpaid. Spouted off about the Kronwall hit, despite having a similar one in the playoffs several years back.

Ladd - Don't like his face. Looks like a psycho who kills people. May have DT's.

Eager - Wannabee enforcer. Don't they call charging or boarding anymore in the NHL?

I just hate the uniform more than the players wearing it. With Chicago, I hate both. I don't have a problem with the Flyers fanbase as much as Chicago's. With the players, I slightly hate the Hawks players more.

You shoot off too much ; one thing about the Flyers no one will intimidate them unlike our cast overly finessed players; I'll take an Ian Lapperiere guts and grit over the a Flip type player any day on a team. Until we have more plumbers which mean more Canadians and Americans in the mix were wimpy bunch. And if Chicago wins big F======= tickle their as deserving as any upstart franchise in this Bettman bush league whose won the Cup in the last 20 years. And about Pronger , I use to detest him when he was with the Blues many moons ago against Stevie Y ; but wake up if only we had a mean mother like him with puck sense ; what we would want an Erricson to be - yeah sure you wouldn't cheering and loving that. Oh yeah I would be too!

QFT
Now that's a comment I can get behind. People do have different reasons for hating. Mine happen to have more to do with what actually happens on the ice versus what fans do. I could care less about fan bases. I don't have to live in those cities nor do I have to deal with those people. I might as well be ticked off at people in Delaware as to be pizzed at Hawk fans or Flyer fans for that matter.

And as for Flyers fans. It's been my understanding that some of the most obnoxious, rude and truculent fans on the planet reside in Philly. Never been there so can't speculate myself.

As for the Hawks uniforms. I love them. Always have. Much the same way I love the Habs red unis or the simple elegance of the Wings and Maple Leafs jerseys.

And yes, I admit it, I have a fondness for all things historical. That said, I have a special place in my heart for Original 6 teams and their history.

What have the Flyers ever done other than embarrass the sport and turn it into a sideshow spectacle that was the Broad Street Bullies? I love a good fistfight as much as the next guy. But they were ridiculous.

In any event, even if Hartnell was not in the picture, I could never root for Chris Pronger. As decent, nice, jovial and well spoken he is off the ice, the utter ******-baggery he's committed against the Wings during his career (and other teams) just prohibits me for rooting for him. It'd be like rooting for a team with Claude Lemeiux on it. Absolutely no way in hell i'm ever going to do that.

I'm rooting for Chicago because I think they deserve it. They had to go through both the first and third seeds, they flew out West for two of three possible playoff series, and they're just flat out the better team. Also, I like Toews, Sharp, Keith, and Seabrook, and I harbor no ill-will against Hossa or Kopecky. On paper, they've got an insane roster; Hossa, Toews, Kane, Keith, and Seabrook are all superstars.

I personally think some of you guys let other teams' fans bother you too much. The 'Hawks winning really doesn't matter all that much; I think we'll still retain our bragging rights. We're still a powerhouse team remaining in contention, we've won more Stanley Cups in the last fifteen years than they have in the history of their franchise (literally; 4 > 3), and we've beat them in every playoff series we've played with them for the last twenty years. Not to mention the fact that they have 15 players signed and they're already over next year's salary cap with a young stud goaltender that may win the Conn Smythe. All of those things add up and make me pretty confident that I can root for the Blackhawks without giving their fans too much leverage on us.

I am with you here.

I guess I am one of those odd-balls who likes to root for our divisional opponents, and the O-Six, in the post season, especially when the Wings are done. I can understand why we Detroit fans hated Colorado in the 90s and Anaheim now, but Chicago? For what? Some unwritten rule that we must hate our divisional rivals or we are traitors? To me, it seems a tad sheepish.

Teams like Chicago winning are good for the league, and ultimately, the Wings. It would be nice to see Detroit, Chicago, and St.Louis all contenders at the same time b/c there was nothing more boring than seeing the Wings be the only relevant team in the division. Okay, there was Nashville to some extent, but no one really cares about them.

This topic of conversation is getting WAY too personal.

You may not agree with people's decision to cheer for one team over the other in this series, but some of the posts here are getting out of hand. If you don't agree with another member's choice or reason in who they're cheering for, that's fine. But responding in the manner that I've seen the last few pages have been childish at the least, and bordering on the edge of breaking the Forum Rules at the worst.

Keep the discussions civil please. Either agree, or disagree, but at least give other members the common courtesy of respecting the decisions that they have made and move on.

I wonder how many Red Sox fans cheered for the Yankees last year in the World Series?

I bet none. Why should they? The Yankees won 26 rings during the 86 years the Redsox had to wait to win another.

When was the last time the Blackhawks did anything to the Redwings? 1992, when they swept us in the 2nd round? Hell, the Hawks have not done much to anyone in years and have not hoisted the Cup in 49 years.

What's to hate? Their jealous fans?

Hawks fans have every reason to hate the Wings. Their franchise has gotten the shaft for the better part of its 84 year history. Long before it was "Dollar Bill" running the franchise into the ground, it was the Norris family who treated the Blackhawks as nothing more than a farm team for their other team, a certain one donning a winged wheel.

I feel like a lot of people on this forums are 16 years old....

In any case, I think the Hawks have worked hard to get here, and though I really wish we would have met them again in the Conf Finals, it didn't turn out that way.
They are royally f***ed next year because of the financial situation they are in. So let them have their glory, if any year was their year to beat us, it was this year, so I'm not sure why everyone is all up in arms with hatred.

I wear my Wing's gear with pride everywhere I go in Chicago and very often I will get a random "BOOO WINGS SUCK"
Hell, even in the past few day's I've had a few people at work ask me how the Wings are doing this year, and when I tell them wtf are they talking about, they arent even in the playoffs anymore, they just snicker at me like they swept us in the playoffs this year or something.
Yes, it makes me mad, but i'm not mad at the Hawks, or their fans, I'm mad at ignorant people. I know plenty of Hawks fans who have much respect for the Wings, and as such I will represent them with pride.
Last year before the rivalry got really heated, before the Winter Classic, I went to a game where we were down and won the game in a shootout at the UC, some random guy I didn't know who was sitting by us bought me and my buddy a beer at the bar after the game. They aren't all a bunch of 16 year olds spewing hatred just for s***s and giggles.

Maybe I'm biased for Living in Chicago, but go Hawks, this is the closest they'll get for awhile.

edit: to be clear here, I was born and raised in Michigan, and have only recently moved to Chicago. I bleed Red and White.
