Lidstrom has 6 Norris trophies, 4 Stanley Cups and a Conn Smythe.

Pronger has 1 Norris trophy and 1 Stanley Cup.

There's no comparison.

Career wise there is no comparison. This year there is. chris Pronger is a better Dman than Nick Lidstrom is today. No doubt Nick will retire as the better of the two, and by a wide margin at that - but Pronger is a better player right now than Lids. Yes I know it sucks, but it's the truth.

ur no longer a true Wings fan for cheering for chicago

You guys are all saying what I said a few days ago, and I got attacked for it by some of the dumb Hawks lovers on this site.

It's good to see that LGW is back to being a Wings friendly site. No more Hawks obsession. They're our freaking rivals for crying out loud, and their entire fanbase hates the Wings and always roots "Red Wings Suck".

I'm supposed to cheer for them in the Finals just because of one gap-toothed idiot being on the other team? I don't think so.

some stupid people has said that pronger is better than lidstrom alltime just because he has a good playoffs. I would hate to see the conn smythe go to him. It must go to chicago and toews!

The Conn Smythe doesnt have to go to a player on the team that wins the Stanley Cup. Pronger could just as easily win it even if the Flyers lose. That makes this post ignorant and unnecessary.

I'd limit it to Pronger being a better player than Lids this season. Lidstrom had a slow start, and Pronger for some reason is a beast when he gets traded to a new team.

Next year who knows what'll happen.

And the guy plays on the edge, a lot of times over it, and the puck stealing thing is lame, but I still would've loved to have Pronger on the Wings. Great defenseman, smart hockey player, and how could you not love having one of the biggest villains in all the league on your blueline?

Part of the Wings problem the last couple seasons has been the free passes they give to opposing players around the Wings crease. Pronger would've changed that.

It's really not. I really have no doubt that if the Wings were in the finals Lidstrom would be playing just as well (at least) as Pronger is now. Players always look better by comparison when they go farther in the playoffs.

Is Pronger a lock for the Conn Smythe?

I don't think so. He's a lock for Philly team media clown tho.

He definitely would be considered... but also likely considered...

Carcillo, Laperriere.... and maybe if his performance continues even Leino.

Hey OP, post on a Blackhawks forum. In case you can't read, this is letsgoWINGS.com. Geez. C'mon guys, wanting to see another team win the cup........ That makes me sick :puke:

Fans of any team can post in this forum if they abide by the rules and don't troll. I certainly welcome them.

And what are we supposed to do now that there are only 2 teams left and the Wings are out?

And while I know a good bit of it is in fun, some in here definitely go overboard with the bulls**t of real vs. fake fans given by your own personal lists of criteria which are bulls**t. Just because you make the rules of being a fan doesn't make them true. (generally speaking here, not focusing on anybody in specific)

I want to see the Blackhawks win now. Why? The Wings are out, I have some family that live in Chicago and it'd be cool for them to experience, I have a friend who lives down here who is a Hawks fan from Chicago, and I personally don't like Philly sports all that much. If you don't like it, that's your tough luck. Who I want to win or root for does not make me any better or worse of a fan than anybody else in here.

So you can take your "You're not a real Red Wing fan" if you root for the Blackhawks or a team that Pronger plays on or whatever thought process and shove it up your rear end.

I could not possibly agree more. I am a hockey fan first and a Wings fan second... diehard on both accounts. I love the way Toews, Hossa and Keith play the game, have many friends from the Chicago area who are longtime Hawks fans and generally root for the West over the East since that is my team's conference.

Of course I'd be rocking the winged wheel and cheering my heart out for the Wings if they were still playing, but they're not. I still enjoy watching hockey, so the team I'm choosing to back until the offseason is the Hawks (nevermind that, once the Wings got bounced I was praying for a Sharks/Habs final....grumble).

This makes me less of a fan? That's plain silly.

Let's say you're playing video games with your little brother. You kick his ass and kick his ass, and kick his ass some more. He's demoralized. He lashes out all the time but you just laugh because you run the table on the little squirt.

Then when he beats you once out of 1000 times, he celebrates and you just laugh. He takes it seriously but you don't, because you're better.

Point is, Chicago isn't our rival because of one season. We've spent the last how many decades s***canning them left and right? They're not our rival, they're practically our farm team. We don't have a rival anymore, we just have teams we're more familiar with who hate us.

Soooo well said... Chicago will get that lovely cap hit this off season and be right back to square one. Niemi still hasn't impressed and it will be the same s*** as before.

You tell'em, Jack.

Nobody has any right to say who people can root for or how this reflects on the depth of their Wings fanship.

I could sit here and doubt how anyone could be a true Wings fan and still want to see Pronger lift the Cup. If they have to ask why, they're not a real fan ( )

I have my reasons for cheering for the Blackhawks this time, and none of them have anything that has any bearing on my being a Wings fan.

The Wings won't win the Cup this year. Get over it, people.

There are only two teams left, and I can't stand either of them. On one hand, there is Pronger, who I hate second only to Claude. On the other hand, there is Toews, who is a UND boy and from people I've talked to from there (including a former hockey player), that kid is nothing but a good guy.

Butt-fugly-en is from Minnesota, which is located really close to home for me as well.

Those are small reasons compared to the personal reason I am rooting for the Blackhawks: Grab a cup of coffee. This could get long.

In the summer of 2008, my dad was sick. He came very close to dying twice. He spent the summer in three hospitals getting tests, getting inconclusive results, getting more tests... Some of the tests were painful; others were unpleasant. Through it all, he kept his spirits up. When things would get bad, he'd say, "Well, at least we won the Cup." It may sound stupid, but it kept him going.

He was a Detroit boy through and through. He followed his teams back when there were only three channels on the tv, and no internet. He couldn't afford magazines or Detroit newspapers or things like that, so he kept up through word of mouth from friends who were still back in The D.

Do you have any idea how happy that man was in 1997? He had waited since his childhood to see them win that Cup again.

In January of 2009, we went to see the Wings play the Wild. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing, and it was the last time I got to do anything with him. He died of a heart attack a month later.

The joy that he got from the Wings winning the Cup got him through that summer of tests and hospitalization, all for nothing as it was unrelated to what actually killed him.

Now I have a friend whose dad went through what my dad did. Fortunately for my friend, her dad doesn't have a history of heart problems, so his outcome should be better than my dad's. Her dad almost died last summer. He's from the Chicago area, and a life-long Hawks fan. His daughter is a Wings fan, and he cheered for her team in the years that his team was out and her team was in. She is now returning the favour.

I'm cheering for the Hawks for my friend's dad, and by extention, my dad's memory. When I hear about her dad, I can't help but think of my own. They have a close relationship like I did with my dad. The pain of missing him is sometimes unbearable despite my solid belief that I will see him again someday. Knowing how much I miss my dad, it makes it extra special when a friend has that sort of close relationship with her dad, and is able to cherish the experiences that I did with my dad. I want her to see the joy in her dad's eyes that I saw in my dad's eyes four times.

Those things are more important than who elbowed whom in 2007, or who has sucky fans that yell stupid things about other cities.

I realize that every team in the league could come up with a story like this about a fan who has had a rough time who they would like to "win it for", but this is my story, and my friend's.

You may root for whomever you please, but this is where I stand, and I will stand here as a true die-hard Wings fan, and you can not change that.

No, it's the 70+ seasons that make them our rival.
