please chicago win the stanley cup

Fans of any team can post in this forum if they abide by the rules and don't troll. I certainly welcome them.

And what are we supposed to do now that there are only 2 teams left and the Wings are out?

And while I know a good bit of it is in fun, some in here definitely go overboard with the bulls**t of real vs. fake fans given by your own personal lists of criteria which are bulls**t. Just because you make the rules of being a fan doesn't make them true. (generally speaking here, not focusing on anybody in specific)

I want to see the Blackhawks win now. Why? The Wings are out, I have some family that live in Chicago and it'd be cool for them to experience, I have a friend who lives down here who is a Hawks fan from Chicago, and I personally don't like Philly sports all that much. If you don't like it, that's your tough luck. Who I want to win or root for does not make me any better or worse of a fan than anybody else in here.

So you can take your "You're not a real Red Wing fan" if you root for the Blackhawks or a team that Pronger plays on or whatever thought process and shove it up your rear end.

I can't help but feel like you're attacking me there. Sorry that I only like to see the Wings win the Stanley Cup, and really don't care who wins otherwise (not that I don't like watching it, I just don't have an opinion one way or another). Sorry to offend you so badly. I guess I can't make a comment saying that a thread like "please chicago win the stanley cup" is best reserved for a Hawks forum (being a rival fan, making a rival comment). I guess poking a little fun at you guys that want Philly or the Hawks to win is also a bad thing (like by saying it makes me sick). Some of you fellas on here need to lighten up a little bit.

It is odd to see a thread with that title on a Wings forum. Unfortunately, there are those who feel that they can tell the rest of us who we can or can't root for, and how our choice determines the depth of our love for the Wings.

Sorry for any bad thoughts I sent your way. Since you're not one of those, I'll go back and give you a +. Pax?

Thanks for understanding. No, I am not one of those who tells anyone who they can and can't root for. I just chose to root for the Wings, and don't really have an opinion otherwise. I love the game, it just doesn't make me go yay when it's not the Wings lifting that shiny trophy. I guess I was a little vague in my post, whereas my intention was misconstrued. My intention wasn't to say "You can't root for any team other than the Wings", but being a smart ass and saying "Geez..... How could you want any other team to win, makes me sick" :P Oh well.

No, it's the 70+ seasons that make them our rival.

Meh, when we're winning more Cups in 11 years than they have in those 70+, it's hard to take them seriously.

Cool. *awkward hommie hug* :P

It just pisses me off when somebody says you're not a true fan or you're a so-and-so fan if you don't do these exact things. I can usually tell when it's in fun, but it goes overboard in here with plenty. It's ridiculous, there are no "rules" in order to be a fan, you like who you like/dislike and everybody likes different teams or players for different reasons and forcing your rules down other people's throats like they are idiots isn't going to change their minds.

I just don't like doing it unless people who initiate deserve to get dumped back on. I'm not going to make fun of fans in Phoenix or Florida generally speaking that aren't as established as an O-6 franchise and who might have just started following the game a year or two ago if they don't completely know the rules or all the players, I'm not going to put a bandwagoner tag on anybody, you're a fan and you like watching regardless, no matter how long, no matter for whom, etc. I'm not going to give people attitude and tell them they are stupid for who they cheer for or whatever, even if I don't like them.

One of my friends from college who I still keep in touch with off and on was raised in the Pittsburgh area so he likes the Penguins, but eventually wound up working for the Philadelphia Eagles as a trainer, so he liked the Eagles more than the Steelers. Of course I don't like the Penguins all that much, and liking both the Eagles and Steelers would clash naturally you think, but do I give him crap for it? No. He likes who he likes and I'm not going to change it, I think that's cool that he likes the teams he likes, and me going on a soap box about ZOMG Pittsburgh etc. isn't going to change jack squat.

Basically I'm all about respecting everybody else regardless of affiliation. I'll always be friendly with the enemy if they don't act overboard and obnoxious towards others. Don't act like an a'hole to me or others and deserve getting lashed back at.

One Conn Smythe trophy for Chris Pronger says nothing about comparability to Nick. The stud's won 6 Norris Trophies to Pronger's 1. There is no comparison. I ******* hate Pronger, I think he's a doosh, but there has to be some sort of respect for him and his ability as an elite defenseman, unfortunately. Chicago, I also respect, but hate more than Pronger. Toews is a great young captain and really is a face of a franchise with how he commands himself on and off the ice. There is another young captain out there that I have zero respect for (who do you think?) and just shows how some franchises make the right decisions with that kind of stuff. Pronger is an asswipe but a great player. Chicago is probably my least favorite team and rivals the Avalanche of 96 and 97 for how much I don't like that team, but they still command attention and respect for their level of talent.

I've been impressed with the Flyers. Remember at one point, their locker room supposedly was blowing up, they were the underachievers of this season but man, they've got fight. Makes this series interesting at least and not a 4-0 or 4-1 kind of SCF. In my pool I picked Chicago but it wouldn't bother me one bit if Philly pulls the upset. Hossa jinx for one more year.

As for Conn Smyth ... what about Ville Leino :D

It's all good. I understand where you're coming from. Just to clarify my point though, I never intended for it to be taken as saying "Hey you, if you don't want to see the Wings win, then you are not a true fan of the club." My comment was me being a smart ass, that's all. You can't hear sarcasm in words typed over the Internet unfortunately.

as a wings fan it is not so much about who wins the cup as who wins it not. i just don´t want to see (ever) pat kane lift the cup, even if it means pronger wins another one. actually he (pronger) has really impressed me with his play so far in this playoffs and he didn´t even pull the crap he is "famous" for (at least i can´t remember anything from this year).

so, please flyers win the cup, and after that is accomplished....

GO WINGS for No. 12 !!!

Chicago must not win the Cup. Joe Q is the worst coach ever, and despite being handed all the talent he has this year, he is still managing to piss it all away.

Just like in the X-Files where they said the Buffalo Bills would never win the Super Bowl, same thing for Joe Q: Joe Q will never win the Stanley Cup.

You can run

You can hide

You can change your sweater color

You can change numbers

You can change cities

You cannot outrun the curse of Hossa

It is real and it is claiming yet another fanbase

I don't buy curses and I sure as s*** don't buy this one. It shouldn't have even went down the way it did. We had a deal on the table to trade for Hossa in 08 when we won and there's a good chance he would've helped us win that year. It's not like he played bad for Pittsburgh that year. Even if he wouldn't have made us better (which he would've) he would've still taken a big chunk of talent out of Pitt.

And in 09, I will argue this to my dying day, we were blatantly and unmistakably jerked around by the league until Crosby's baby boy got the Cup they all wanted him to get. That series should've been over in 5.

And this year, well, it's not like he's playing bad. He's one of the better players out there for the Hawks. The Hawks troubles have more to do with a flaky goalie who can't stop second and third shots, a coach who is one of the worst in hockey and an overall team immaturity. Hell, let's add to that-they don't have a true leader, they quit when they're not dominating and they have absolutely zero composure.

That isn't Hossa's fault, and it's not a curse. It's just a group of hot shot kids with no leadership or experience bringing him down.

Hossa did I think, back the wrong pony. He should've taken his money we offered him and stuck around. Because long after Chicago has had their run and are back to losing, we'll still be winning. And he'd be taken care of by this team, that has a better chance of winning year in and year out than the Hawks, who couldn't manage the cap to save a bucket of kittens.

All this Pronger hate, but if he someday became a Detroit Red Wing he would be loved. Remember he hate for Bertuzzi, Chelios, Reindeau, Clark, Ulf Samuelsson? These guys were all hated, yet when they put on the Winged Wheel you all cheered for them. That is why, as much as I love LGW, most of you guys are full of the Red Kool Aid. I particulary would like to see Pronger become a Red Wing, much like Hatcher did. I like players for players, not who they play for, hence the reason I still cannot stand Hudler, McCarty or LaPointe. Not that they weren't good at what they do or did, just don't like them and on LGW if you don't like a Red Wing, you aren't a true fan according to most, and you can go root for another team if you don't like any particular Wings player. God forbid someone say something negative about Yzerman, like in person he is a stuck up prick, I know, I have met him plenty of times, he ranks right up there with Gretzky. I have nothing against his importance to the Wings and now to the Lightning, just in person, he isn't what most of you think. And I am not talking about the Yzerman who is paid to be pleasant when it comes to autograph sessions and the like. God forbid, someone doesn't like Lidstrom either...

EDIT: See, some ****** gives me a negative just because I say something that doesn't place anyone who plays for the Wings on a pedestal next to God... Hey ****** bag, you're funny, you think Yzerman cares for you? Now you're really delusional!

These statements are totally succinct .

My take on it and I don't speak for everyone, is if we can acquire a player I dislike, we'd damn sure better make sure he's not a ****** while on this team.

Typically I dislike players for a lack of character, and I think it's an almost unspoken rule on this team that we be a team with good character. And don't give me Bertuzzi, he's not a goon and never was. He made one mistake that wasn't even totally his fault.

If we were to acquire Pronger, I'd question what Holland is thinking and I wouldn't change my stance on him. I know some people would though. The only thing I'd hope for is, that the snake can shed his skin. Some can, some can't.

I'm thankful Holland doesn't go after questionable individuals. It's what makes us the stand-up organization we are, instead of being desperate assholes the caliber of let's say, the 07 Ducks.

Chris Chelios, Ulf Samuelsson...

Kenny's job is to assemble the best team possible, not field a squad of Lady Byngers. ;)

I thought of Cheli, especially since he was here for a while and it took me three years to get used to him playing here, but he changed his game and wasn't the SOB he was for Chicago. Hatcher didn't. I believe it was Gelinas he elbowed in the head at the end of a playoff game. Cheap, dirty hit. Made me embarrassed. Sammy didn't do a whole lot either way - hence his short-lived time as a Wing. I did fail to mention Uwe Krupp, though. Ugh.

Gimme that Bing!! :)

Seriously, those guys are who we consider questionable?

Wow, we're pretty spoiled.
