And why do you have Lilja in your estimations? He's done, yeah you made your comeback but you're done... thanks lilja move on. (or hang them up)

Really dont understand why people are fixated on signing that ***** Tanguay, aside from being an ex-Avs ******, he made $2.5 million last season and put up 37 points. What a bargain?

Just because of that reason he will be able to get signed below 2M, especially if he prefers to go to detroit... If he gets to play with datsyuk or zetterberg he could put up 70-80pts again..Way too much skill n upside to be overlooked, as i said before, there's also a reason he went 12overall and is a stanley cup champ

Good length and good cap hit, anyone else thinking this may be his last contract ever?

I would guess that another two years standing in front of opposing NHL goalies will be all his poor body can handle.

BS...why wouldn't Lilja be in our estimations. The guy is beyond solid as a bottom pairing D-man, which is where he belongs and he's a beast on the PK. There's a reason Babs sticks him out there with Lidstrom on the first PK pairing. Not to mention the fact that the bottom pairing would truly benefit from a stay-at-home veteran presence for a modest salary. Lilja's perfect for that and he'd continue to alleviate the growing pains of both E and Kindl.

If he can be had for a similar contract the Wings' defense will be solid top to bottom! If not, prepare for a lot of bottom pairing rookie mistakes this coming season.

Forward Jason Williams and defenseman Brett Lebda won't be re-signed.

I liked that part!

but i didnt like the uncertainty of resign lilja unless they plan on upgrading or if kindl is as good as the hype is...

So are Lebda and Williams. Don't get me wrong, Tanguay is much better than either of those but just because he was on a team that won the Cup doesn't mean he is a great player or pick-up for the Wings.

Great deal to have homer back on, hopefully his body can hold up.

why do people think miller will be back? he did a good job but he is redundant. Great news about lebda and williams, and I also think lilja wont be back.

hopefully bert signs a similar deal to that of homer.

Well he's also been a 70-80pts scorer for like 4 seasons...that's the main thing.

Tanguay is a joke. I can't believe hockey fans actually want him on this team.

I like Bertuzzi, but like many of you if we can find a player that will have more impact for between 2-3 mil, it's a move that has to be made. Tanguay is not that move.

+1

Not to say it's a sure thing, but the article lists Miller as one of the players the Wings will re-sign.

There's a lot to like about Bert, but I wish they could structure his contract so every time he takes his hand off his stick and commits a bad offensive zone penalty, he owes Holland $100,000. Within the first month he'd be playing for free.

Agreed. I wouldn't be opposed to another option if the fit is right over keeping Bertuzzi, but I don't want that joke Tanguay here. There are FAR better options out there in the same price range for the Red Wings should Holland go a different route than keeping Bert.

Would probably still affect the cap in that dreamworld of yours :hehe::lol:

What other potential 70-80pts scorers for under 2million are you thinking of?

Maybe as a guy that plays on the top line and #1 PP unit. He'd be behind three forwards for sure at even strength and four on the power play in competing for ice time. He had a bad season but I agree he could easily bounce back and be productive here, but 40-50 points is probably a more realistic projection if he did. Which wouldn't really separate him from Bertuzzi in that way, but there are other qualities worth discussing, in addition to price tag.

He would probably be on the 2nd pp unit, haven't really looked at the lineup but maybe he squeeks in that 2nd line?

lol if that was the case bert would be playing for free j/K

and all the RFA's will be resigned and kenny will try to trade the likes of miller and meech to try to get something for them, im sure they could get a late round pick for one or both of them and turn it into a callahan or almqvist. Either that or waive them and hope they dont get claimed ( not that I would care )

I like eaves more than miller cause eaves has some upside. If we didn't have drapes or eaves I'd be totally on board for giving miller a roster spot.

tanguay will not be a wing. some other team will offer him 4M

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Homer

Hudler-Flip-Franzen

That's the top 6 right now. I could see a case where Homer is buried on the 4th liner during even strength and then brought out more as a PP specialist. But on the PP Flip is maybe the only guy any forward they could bring in would have a chance at replacing. Injuries will obviously have an impact but even that's not cut and dry; if Homer gets hurt Cleary is more likely to be elevated to fill that role than a finesse guy.

Either way I don't think it's realistic to expect a guy competing in that environment to get 70-80 points, whether it's Bert or Tanguay or anyone else.

I'm not really interested as much in getting a "potential scorer" through free agency especially Tanguay because I think you are shooting way high with those estimates.

I think the Red Wings top six is fine as is right now. I don't think Bertuzzi really fits in a third line role (assuming Hudler is mostly playing in the top six), so I wouldn't be opposed to using that money on a gritty player that has some scoring upside. Someone like Raffi Torres on a third line with Helm and Cleary would be nice. Come back with the energy of Abdelkader, Eaves and whomever on the fourth line.
