Holmstrom signs 2 year extension

^ I really would only like to see one of Bert/Homer back next year. I'd rather spend 3 million (if we have the space) one someone who will make a little more impact than Bert. He was good the entire year, but as for actually putting points up, outside a few bright spots he wasn't very good.

I wouldn't mind seeing Holland offer Owen Nolan a contract instead of Bertuzzi for Holmstrom money. Or maybe Tanguay... You're right Bertuzzi was just too inconsistent, but Holland loves him and will prolly offer him the same as Holmstrom, too bad there isn't enough roster space to add a Nolan or Tanguay as well... Damn you Hudler!

Guest Howard He Do It?!

Good length and good cap hit, anyone else thinking this may be his last contract ever?

Maybe he can convince Nick to sign on for one more year after next and retire together.

If anything this opens the door for Lilja even more. Lebda is gone. Meech will get a qualifying offer and depending on Lilja's situation could be moved.

I'm very uncertain about an Ericsson-Kindl pairing without a backup like Lilja just in case Ericsson doesn't take the next step forward or Kindl struggles as badly as many suspect he will (myself included, although I think he has the potential to be a good player long term).

Forward Jason Williams and defenseman Brett Lebda won't be re-signed.

A dream has been realized.

Great cap hit for Homer. Kenny hasn't lost his touch.

Here's what I came up with using Cap Geek...

AUTO-GENERATED CAPGEEK.COM LINES

FORWARDS

Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m)

Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m)

* Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) / Kris Draper ($1.583m) / * Justin Abdelkader ($0.850m)

* Darren Helm ($0.750m) / * Drew Miller ($0.750m) / * Patrick Eaves ($0.750m)

Mattias Ritola ($0.517m)

DEFENSEMEN

Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m)

Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m)

* Andreas Lilja ($1.000m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m)

Jakub Kindl ($0.883m)

GOALTENDERS

Chris Osgood ($1.417m) / Jimmy Howard ($0.717m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS

(these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion)

ROSTER: 22; CAP: $58.8m; PAYROLL: $56.355m; CAP ROOM: $2.445m BONUSES: $0.000m

That's the most realistic thing I foresee. Helm, Miller and Eaves should make something in the ballpark of $750,000 each. Abdelkader doesn't deserve a raise-- $850,000 is right for what he provides and his age/experience.

Note that Bertuzzi isn't there.

If you add another forward (Bertuzzi) you have to drop a forward-- there's no reason to carry 14 forwards when half of them are interchangeable parts.

To be honest, I wish Abdelkader had another year of AHL eligibility to fall back on... I thought he did but I think his being an RFA changes that.

Solid deal, I was hoping for somewhere just a bit under 2 million. Hopefully his body can hold out for 2 more years and we have a great deal on our hands.

Even if Homer's skating does slow down it doesnt really matter because he'll still be able to tip pucks all the same on the PP

Just an FYI: Abdelkader is required to make atleast $892,5000 next season according to the RFA re-sign policy laid out in the CBA.
