With Holmstrom aging quickly, and the need for a "screener" on our PP, I think Byfuglien would be a great fit.

He can hit, screen, and is a great stick handler.

With a cap hit of only 3m I think the wings should trade a prospect for this guy.

Get rid of Bertuzzi and put him in the lineup.

He can play on any line for us and would be great on the 2nd PP.

If you agree or have another player in mind for this role, please post.

No thanks, I'd rather have Burtuzzi + Asham/Winchester -type physical player for the same cap hit than that moron. Not impressed with Bufuglianaopjkan (or however you spell his name)

Absolutely, I'd take Byfuglien in a heartbeat.

That said, he's only set to be an RFA after next season, so at the very least we would lose several draft picks (including first rounders) to sign him, or have to wait it out until the 2012 offseason to be able to sign him as a UFA.

So the only other way to get him would be trade, and I HIGHLY doubt that Chicago would be willing to trade him away at all, much less for "a prospect" as you put it.

trade - no thanks. not worth the 3 million

rfa - no thanks. losing valuable picks for a player of his caliber isn't worth it either

and is a great stick handler

I would take Buff, Pronger, and Laperriere in a heart beat.

There is a reason they are hated. They are good at their jobs, and they aren't on your team = you hate!

No, I think that isn't the only reason they are hated. If we got Pronger or Byfuglien I would still hate them. No question about it.

what about Blake Wheeler hes a RFA this season 800k i think he made last season everyones saying Boston probably cant sign him with other RFA like Lehtonen,Paille,Sobotka,Boychuk,Stuart and Wheeler

Wheeler at 6'5 220lbs learning from Homer for the next couple season defintly has the build to play that style

82GP had something like 37PTS thats mostly 3rd line with some PP and ocasional 2nd line

depending what we could get Wheeler at and/or Bertuzzi have something like this

Franzen-Zetterberg-Holmstrom

Hudler-Datsyuk-Wheeler

Cleary-Filppula-Bertuzzi

Eaves-Abdelkader-Helm

Draper

I really like Wheeler's style, and think he could fit well with the Wings, but the main reason he didn't sign on with Phoenix orignally was because he has a strong urge to play for Boston. He won't leave them at this stage of his career.

very true but i have to think Sobotka,Boychuk,Stuart and Leihtonen will all get a contract from the Bruins and those are just RFA's Sobotka and Boychuk stepped up for the Bruins in the playoffs and Leihtonen had 50pts in like 75gp for prov. bruins this season hes only like 22 so they will want him back. I wouldnt mind making a trade for Wheeler then i really do think the Bruins are in a tight spot this off-season, unless they can dump that Ryder contract somewhere

Yes but not at the price he thinks he's worth.

I get this impression as well, but you never know until a player actually hits free agency and the actions they show...

At a cap hit of 3 or less a season, and without trading any of our top 6 forwards or top 4 d-men... I'd pull the trigger on that one...

There should be more options in the poll though -

1. Yes, at all cost

2. Yes, but only through free agency

3. Yes, but only if it didn't mean giving up any major assets

4. No, he will cost too much

5. No, at all cost

Yes I would love to have this guy in the line up. He reminds me of a Lapointe type of player just bigger and stronger. The only thing is if he has a good season this upcoming year (20G+ 50+pts) then I would expect him to command at least $4m per year. He will get it too since there are not that many players that has his size, strength, physical play, and scoring touch.

No and yes. No because I don't like the way he acts. He acts like a blackhawk, would it change if he was in a red wings jersery? probably, but I don't want that.

yes because he is a good player, just like holmstrom. He is a big body in the front and makes the goals happen.

Byfuglien had only like 34 points in the regular season. He was a team worst -11 in the regular season. He was tied for a team worst -4 in the postseason. Byfuglien had an offensive outburst in the postseason which is why I understand the current trend to like him. He is not worth 3m. He hasn't shown that he can continually produce and do it consistently. I honestly don't see him fitting in with the Red Wings because of his semi liability in the defensive zone. He will fit in somewhere and be a major contributor but it will have to be on a certain team in which defense isn't a major priority, ie not the red wings.

I don't know of a replacement for Byfuglien but I'd rather have someone like Asham. That guy played exactly how I would want someone in a Wings jersey to play and he has a nice scoring touch for being a "grinder". For the price especially Asham > Byfuglien in my mind.

edit: my answer was no if you didn't get it from the post lol

Pretty much how I feel on the subject. Id worry about the "team player" aspect about him, not sure what his effect on team chemistry would be. Buff doesn't strike me as a "I'll do anything you ask for me to help the team" type of guy.

Asham would be pretty nice too I agree. This guy just fits the bill of what we need all around. Not to mention if Byfuglien came here, I have a feeling that team problem he may have would go away playing for the greatest org on the planet thumbup.gif

Big size, good hands & athletism,he can replace Homer in front of the net for the future seasons...OUTSTANDING PLAYOFF forward! that's very important for a team like Detroit!
