Hockey Stories...

of all the great stories that happened to me several do stick out pretty well...

1) Being part of the 2003 Midget AAA National Championship team...we had an amazing team that consisted of Crosby, Stafford (BUF), Johnson (LAK), Smaby (TBL) as well as many more top D 1 guys and also one guy who won the Hobey Baker Award several years ago at North Dakota - Ryan Duncan.

2) Also being able to play Hockey at the NCAA Level for 4 years.

3) Officiating many high level games as well as receiving recognition as a potential CCHA official in the future.

4) The wonderful times that Junior A hockey was not only on the ice, but also the great times away from the rink, many of which I cannot share publicly in order to keep the integrity of this site in tact :hehe:

5) 4 cups for the Wings as well as only seeing two different guys wear the "C" as of right now

6) Having the opportunity to play in Russia and France...actually got to skate against Ovechkin in a game (stripped him of the puck Datsyuk style, but then he still got like 6 goals that day, but oh well)

I have to agree. You obviously knew that you were getting under his skin and that he might retaliate. While I don't condone fighting at beer league events like that, I don't think non-friendly s*** talking is necessary either. Also, you can always ditch your lid when wearing a cage (or visor) if you are being called out. With that said, I like your style of getting under the other teams skin- I play similarly.

Well I would like to say a few things to that.

1. The guy was a headcase.

2. I didn't initially try to agitate him, but considering he was their best player and me stating simple things got him pissed I went with it.

3. I didn't get in his face and act like a hardass, and he never actually challenged me. He just got pissed.

I understand it may not be the best thing I did, but I wasn't going out of my way to be a douchebag either. As soon as the guy got kicked out both teams were perfectly friendly towards one another. His son was cool.

When I was 12 (1988) my dad asked me what I wanted for christmas and I said the only thing I wanted was a Christmas card with Steve Yzerman's signature, jokingly. He sent off a letter to someone at the Joe asking if this could be done, not expecting anything. A few days before Christmas a card came in the mail with Snoopy doing some aerial tricks on skiis, inside was written "Merry Christmas, Scott! Your Friend, Steve Yzerman."

Obviously it's a cherished item and I have it framed. I always thought what a great gesture that was, because he must have gotten so many requests like this over his career. And to not just sign it but add that little bit extra really shows his character.

I was able to cause a former AHL (short time NHL) enforcer to freak out and fight one of my teammates.

We were playing in a charity tournament, and I was put on the Redford Firefighters team as a ringer because I knew a couple of the guys. We had one more game in the prelims against the team that we were going to face in the finals win or lose. Their best player was a former NHL/AHL enforcer named Jason Simon. In the first game he would continuously cherrypick and attempt to get a pass and go out on a breakaway. Towards the end of the game I inadvertently high-sticked him, and after doing so he crosschecked me in the back. I told him "calm down there, Tiger" to which he replied "don't ******* high stick me."

In the final game he was up to his old tricks, and making sure the defensemen on the ice knew it I yelled "WATCH THE CHERRYPICKER". He wasn't too happy about that and told me to "shut the f*** up." Realizing he was getting off his game I continued to yell it during the first 5 minutes of the first period. He ended up challenging one of my teammates and finally:

He was kicked out of the game and we dominated the competition. I am actually in the video.

Fun time.

Does that guy yell "******* Mexican!" at the end??

I will admit i was floating during that clip, i just came back from a grade 3 concussion and at the start of that shift i was clipped with a elbow to the head, there was no call so i stayed out a little to long looking for some pay back. lol

I remember there was a Jason Simon in the minor leagues, but that guy has to be in his 40's by now.

Is this the same guy?

Don't overlook the fact that he played 5 whole games in the NHL!
