Armchair GM for the WIngs - Whats your ideal roster?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Lets play a game - if you could ice YOUR perfect roster with the remaining Free Agents and who we already have locked in, knowing the salary cap inflator and where it's at now, what would your team look like?

Please follow the guidelines:

- Everyone currently under contract HAS to be included

- No trades

- Must include at least 3 of the RFA's which have been qualified - Please also factor in their 5% min raise

- Be reasonable ( a guy who could get 2.5m+ on the open market, is not going to sign here for 1.5m or less)

As it currently stands we are at:

Pavel Datsyuk — $6,700,000

Henrik Zetterberg — $6,083,333

Johan Franzen — $3,954,545

Valtteri Filppula — $3,000,000

Jiri Hudler — $2,875,000

Daniel Cleary — $2,800,000

Todd Bertuzzi — $1,937,500

Tomas Holmstrom — $1,875,000

Kris Draper — $1,583,333

Mattias Ritola — $516,667

Nicklas Lidstrom — $6,200,000

Brian Rafalski — $6,000,000

Brad Stuart — $3,750,000

Niklas Kronwall — $3,000,000

Jonathan Ericsson — $900,000

Jakub Kindl — $883,333

Chris Osgood — $1,416,667

Jimmy Howard — $716,667

ROSTER SIZE 18

SALARY CAP $59,400,000

PAYROLL $54,192,045

I would LOVE to see Boychuck here, but do you really think we have a chance now that Boston moved Wideman? I got to imagine it's almost a certainty they will re-sign him now... I know I said YOUR perfect roster, and it doesn't mean you have to think it's actually a possibility, I was just wondering if you thought we still had any shot at him...

Damn it...legit looking lineup too :(

Just dump McGrattan and put Eaves in his spot, then put Ritola back with the big club as an extra forward (as he is not waiver exempt) and put Janik back in GR... and you're back within the guidelines (and you got a pretty good looking line-up too)

You also had too many people on the roster...

The only reason i think we could get Boychuk is because the Bruins are rumored to be trying to make a deal for Kaberele again sending someone like Bergeron or Savard which means they have

Chara

Kaberle

Stuart

Ference

Hunwick

Seidenberg

Boychuck

so thats the only reason i could see us making a deal for him

hey, like I said, I would LOVE to see him here, so if there is any way possible, I'm all for it... he's in my "perfect" roster scenario too and I'd even up the offer to get him...

Any of the UFAs mentioned on here I would welcome, I just went with what I thought would fit out cap space as well as meet the roles at Holland said he was looking to fill. Artyukhin fills the gritty 4th line role, and Colaiacovo gives us a 5/6 Dman who fits our budget, both are not afraid to drop the gloves, and they are good for about 20-30 points each.

I would really like to see Boychuck, but unless Boston is going to make an offer for Kaberle, I don't see them letting him go.

Not a capgeek even with capgeek.com right in front of me so no salary ideas. With the given space we have left I would say this can happen. If it does consider us way tougher and just that much more ready for a run. Healthy, this lineup is beyond legit.

I hate numbers so I wont even try. I like most of those lineups. People have given me crap for saying so, but I am really pleased with the makeup of our lineup for next season. I know a lot of people are saying we are last year's team plus Hudler, but I disagree.

The 4th line signing will be huge, and I really hope we don't make Miller an offer, it'd be such a waste. Having a real tough guy on the team will be a huge confidence boost.

I also still want to retain Lilja, but it seems like that possibility is dwindling. I like Konopka and Winchester. Guys that can chip in some points now and then.

I say bring up the kids (Ritola, Kindl, Abdelkader) full time and keep the roster intact with $4-$5 M in cap space. All the while, invest in clone technology, which does not count against the cap. Feed the clone nothing but hockey knowledge and advise him that this is Nicklas Lidstrom's last season. Then, assuming that this process is complete by the trade deadline, kidnap the real Ken Holland and replace with the clone so that the team is improved for the playoffs.

Or, go the Jason Williams route, come just under the cap from day 1, suffer a serious injury to *insert player name* that projects to be healed by the playoffs, then hail his return as our trade deadline acquisition/pick up Cory Cross....Todd Gill....etc.
