seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 I would hope ESPN knows, since it's already been presented to him. I Definitely liked the speech too.

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Datsyuk's resume continues to get more impressive: 1 nomination for Hart 2 Stanley Cups 3 Consecutive Selke trophies 4 Consecutive Lady Byng trophies (likely 5 by the end of tonight) All he has to do is keep his numbers above a point per game and do so for another 10 years and he's in the Hall
Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Interesting tidbit from the story on NHL.com... Datsyuk is the first player to win the Selke Trophy for three consecutive seasons since Bob Gainey of the Montreal Canadiens won it the first four seasons it was presented, from 1978 through 1981. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Interesting tidbit from the story on NHL.com... Gainey entered the Hall of Fame in 1992. He scored 501pts in 1139 games (16 seasons). If Datsyuk ties Gainey's Selke record is he likely to get into the Hall? He'd be 3 cups (as of now) short of Gainey's 5 but played at an elite level offensively while Gainey did not. Datsyuk also will end up with a ton of Byng trophies (and likely the record for that trophy). If Datsyuk breaks Gainey's record and picks up more than 4 Selke trophies all while returning to his point per game form of the last 4 years, does that make him a lock? If Datsyuk breaks Gainey's record and picks up more than 4 Selke trophies all while returning to his point per game form of the last 4 years, does that make him a lock? Those Selke's certainly help. Due to spending several years in Russia, and then taking a couple years to develop into an elite player, Datsyuk's total numbers will look unimpressive compared to his contemporaries, but those Selkes will help offset that. Original-Six 254 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 His Career totals will be lower that others because he was a late bloomer but i would have to think that him going down as the best two way player in the history of the game would help a lot.

Carman 387 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Datsyuk's had a HOF career up until now, it's up to him to continue the pace to be a Hall of Famer by the time he retires.

Nev 1,085 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 I'm not entirely sure Pavel deserves it for his play this year - but it makes up for 3 years ago when he almost certainly did deserve it (1st in plus/minus, 1st in takeaways, top 10 in face-offs).

He was still deserving of the Selke this year. His offense just wasn't quite as high as usual.
