newfy 695 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 I don't know what Toronto could offer him. The only thing is Kaberle but he doesn't provide any cap relief and I doubt they make that trade Kaberle for Savard straight up.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted June 24, 2010 only.... if some how we could just deal like Cleary... I love Cleary but Savard over Cleary any day of the week..... do I think its going to happen.... no chance unless its a big benefit for the Wings we would never trade with him if it meant losing more depth.... The Bruins are up against the cap, and Cleary only makes $1.2m less than Savard. That trade would thus do little for the Bruins, as would any trade for Filppula or Hudler. The Bruins would want prospects and picks, I'm thinking. That said, Savard recently suffered a concussion and he's almost certainly past his prime. No thanks. I know its stupid to even think about because it can't happen, but if we were able to get him without giving up Hudler, Filppula or Cleary, we would be able to roll the 3 best scoring lines in the league. (We would also have to make Draper go away in this little fantasy...) 2010-11 DETROIT RED WINGS CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / * Marc Savard ($4.007m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($1.938m) Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) * Darren Helm ($0.659m) / * Justin Abdelkader ($0.935m) / * Patrick Eaves ($0.550m) * Drew Miller ($0.578m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) / Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) Doug Janik ($0.512m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) / Chris Osgood ($1.417m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion) ROSTER: 22; CAP:$59.4m; PAYROLL: $59.334m; CAP ROOM: $0.066m BONUSES: $0.000m That would leave no room for call-ups. AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 If I could get the numbers to work, I would do this in a heartbeat. Savard is one of the most underappreciated players in the league. ALWAYS a 80+ point guy. And I am getting tired of waiting to see the potential we have been waiting to see out of some players, I will always take a guy who is peaking over someone who may / may not turn into something. 1 GoWings1905 reacted to this
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 If anything it would seem to me like Boston would want a defenseman. They've already got lots of center depth, (Bergeron/Krejci/Sobotka and possibly Seguin) so I don't see why they'd wanna add another center. So uh... Raflawski... you wanna go to a tea party in Boston? You got the first part right. Boston is trying to get rid of centers, since they feel they have too many, so why would they want more in return. However, Rafalski is another with a no trade clasue. Not going to happen.
Swayze 81 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 I would have loved to get him, but he had what like 2 or 3 concussions last year? No thanks.

paulwoodsfan 52 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 How is it that we are three pages into this discussion and no one has yet pointed out that the Wings cannot take on a $4-M cap hit without giving up contracts worth the same amount. The RFAs they still need to sign are going to put them right up against the cap so there is no room to take on more salary than is being surrendered. So spec about trading Fil or Hudler or Cleary for him may be fun but those scenarios are simply not possible.

They have listed either Hudler, Filppula, or Cleary, who have a 2.875, 3.000, or 2.800 million cap hit, respectively, plus someone else. I guess the someone else would be about a million. You don't have to match salaries exactly in one move. You just have to be under the cap when the season starts.
KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Trade Filppula + Ericcson for Savard. 1 GoWings1905 reacted to this
Guest Heaten Report post Posted June 24, 2010 No thanks. Why trade one of our 26 year olds that haven't even reached their full potential yet for a 33 year old who's going to start to decline soon if not already? ^This. I say pass. There's not one player (except Hudler straight up) I would want him for. Wings don't need to be like Chicago Blackhawks and make a bunch of bad decisions to win now, which will ultimately hurt our future.
Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Trade Filppula + Ericcson for Savard. I've been known as Filppula hater around here, but imo thats overpayment. Savard has max 2-3 years left of maximum productivity, and has concussion problems. Seeing as this deal would benefit us far more in the short term, I don't think sending two potential filled ROSTER players is that good of an idea.
Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 its not like one needs a whole lot of talent to make the playoffs in the east. I wouldn't consider a handful of borderline "top" players (as in top 2 pairing defenseman, top 1st line center) a lot to work with. Especially with a coach who doesn't seem to get a heck of a lot out of his players.

We could either package up draft picks+prospects, or give up Kronwall/Stuart+whatever. Either way, I'm not comfortable with it, I'd rather we just stand pat.
