How is it that we are three pages into this discussion and no one has yet pointed out that the Wings cannot take on a $4-M cap hit without giving up contracts worth the same amount. The RFAs they still need to sign are going to put them right up against the cap so there is no room to take on more salary than is being surrendered. So spec about trading Fil or Hudler or Cleary for him may be fun but those scenarios are simply not possible.
To a point people have. They have listed either Hudler, Filppula, or Cleary, who have a 2.875, 3.000, or 2.800 million cap hit, respectively, plus someone else. I guess the someone else would be about a million. You don't have to match salaries exactly in one move. You just have to be under the cap when the season starts.

No thanks. Why trade one of our 26 year olds that haven't even reached their full potential yet for a 33 year old who's going to start to decline soon if not already?
^This.
I say pass. There's not one player (except Hudler straight up) I would want him for. Wings don't need to be like Chicago Blackhawks and make a bunch of bad decisions to win now, which will ultimately hurt our future.

Trade Filppula + Ericcson for Savard.
I've been known as Filppula hater around here, but imo thats overpayment. Savard has max 2-3 years left of maximum productivity, and has concussion problems. Seeing as this deal would benefit us far more in the short term, I don't think sending two potential filled ROSTER players is that good of an idea.

its not like one needs a whole lot of talent to make the playoffs in the east.
I wouldn't consider a handful of borderline "top" players (as in top 2 pairing defenseman, top 1st line center) a lot to work with. Especially with a coach who doesn't seem to get a heck of a lot out of his players.

I would rather see Clearly go then Filippa
Boston would never take just Cleary in a deal for Savard.

Franzen-Savard-Hudler
Cleary-Abdelkader-Bertuzzi
Eaves-Helm-Draper/UFA
DONE ill take this for sure
Send
Filppula,2nd rounder and a late pick
defintly would have 2 awsome scoring lines
but i have a feeling Savard is going for Kaberle

I don't think Boston's looking for another center, but more defenseman. We could either package up draft picks+prospects, or give up Kronwall/Stuart+whatever. Either way, I'm not comfortable with it, I'd rather we just stand pat.

It is technically possible, I demonstrated how in post #29.How is it that we are three pages into this discussion and no one has yet pointed out that the Wings cannot take on a $4-M cap hit without giving up contracts worth the same amount. They lack a puck-moving defender. Too many guys seem a little unproven to me in that defense. Kaberle would be great for them.I dont think they are looking for D

Was over on hockeysfuture and read that Savard has said he is willing to waive his no trade clause to three teams, Detroit, Toronto and Ottawa.
Hudler+1st round pick for Savard?
Filpulla+? for Savard.
I would try to pull the trigger on this.
Savard is an elite playmaker. No question. He's capable of being a point per game player and then some.
The only problem is that he's 32 years old. He already hit his prime and is on the down swing. The 5 seasons before last he was always a point per game or better player. Last season he was a 0.8 ppg player. On top of that he's not a 30+ goal scoring playmaker like Datsyuk. Savard's only scored 25 goals twice and his career high is 28. In general he's a 20-23 goal a year guy who puts up 60+ assists. His career high years were 97 and 96 points.
I wouldn't trade Hudler plus a 1st for him. Hudler is 6 years younger and hasn't hit his prime yet. Huds is more of a goal scorer and that's what the Wings need right now.
If Savard wasn't in his 30's I'd be all for this trade, but I feel like we're going to overpay for a player who's on the down swing. The Wings are in a reloading phase right now and need to focus on youth until the next Cup window opens (although I think it's open for the 10-11 season but they won't be favourites next year and once Lidstrom is retired the window will slam shut).
Now if the Bruins will take Rafalkski going the other way I'd be all over that deal. I'm only happy with it if it makes the Wings younger and doesn't make them worse.
And don't even bother saying "derp NTC derp derp". I'm aware of Rafalski's NTC and understand how they work (the player can waive them).

You got the first part right. Boston is trying to get rid of centers, since they feel they have too many, so why would they want more in return. However, Rafalski is another with a no trade clasue. Not going to happen.
That's why I "asked" Rafalski, lol. I don't think there's a real way to pull the trade off to be honest.

Funny how often the NTC has been brought up in said thread but said thread title has it all right there for all to see.

Trade Filppula + Ericcson for Savard.
Two young roster players for a 32 year old player with injury issues?

Thanks TeeMan!

Intangibles do not really cross the minds of many people on these boards.
