EastonWings 2 Report post Posted June 29, 2010 Franzen barely plays like Holmstrom as it is. Jocke, well, maybe they'll try to turn him into a Homer but I don't see that happening. yea frazen stays out of the penalty box! not to mention frazens play hasnt deminshed. holmstroms slow. the first two picks were what the needed. go to hockeysfuture.com look at our talent. We dont have much as far as high skill. great draft for the wings getting a power foward and a bunch of centers we need.

Casey 145 Report post Posted June 29, 2010 Wonder why players grow so quick every time they travel overseas. Strength training. The NHL and AHL value physical strength more highly than does the SEL, KHL or other European leagues, so bulking up a bit is a useful thing.

Physical training at least here is Finland is overvalued in both soccer and hockey. Many Finnish coaches prefer big athletic guy over skilled ones.I think the big difference is that things get more professional when you want to play in the NHL and the big reason for that is the money. It's not about valuing, it's purely about economics and what teams can afford. I'd also say the use of roids and stims is factor.
Carman 387 Report post Posted June 29, 2010 North America is just a better hockey breeding ground. It's quite obvious, look at the Olympics and World Juniors. North America is just the best. 3 Hockeymom1960, redwingfan19 and Konnan511 reacted to this

While physical fitness and endurance are vital, the European style is a bit less physical. Less hitting means you don't need as much muscle to actually hit with. Am I the only one who hears "Jarnkrok" in the voice of the announcer in Mortal Kombat?
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted June 29, 2010 Kid's got talent. Doesn't look like his lack of size scares him from getting into scoring lanes either, which is good. Drove to the net hard for a guy his size. That's cuz none of the defensemen look like this: Who cares about his stats anyhow... I just can't wait to see all the spins on his name if he ends up sucking. 2 HankthaTank and Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

I just don't think the reason why many player get bigger when they come to NA is because of training being somehow much different. As I said, I think the biggest reason is that players start to train even harder. They get paid better and team's also afford better methods of training. And then there's also stims and roids involved.I agree that those things you said are more valued in NA, but I don't think that's the reason why many players get bigger when they go there. cjm502 165 Report post Posted July 27, 2010 I hate to revive an old thread, I was just checking out our prospects on youtube. Jarnkrok is supposed to have a lethal shot right now. I was just thinking, when he puts bulks up and 40lbs of muscle he is going to be launching absolute rockets. I am very high on this kid, if he plays that well at the size he is now imagine how much potential he has when he puts on some weight.

Do you know how difficult that is for a guy who is naturally small? Answer: damn near impossible. Look at Zata and Datsyuk, don't you think they've tried to put more muscle on? Look at Zata and Datsyuk, don't you think they've tried to put more muscle on? Yeah but Z was close to this guys size at his draft day was he not? Z is now at a good, probably average playing weight and not considered small. This guy can put some meat on for sure, especially as an 18 year old he has tonnes of room to grow Ahaha J-Rok.
