Andrew Ladd ?...

Recommended Posts

Darren Drager just said that the Hawks offered Ladd 1.65mill, but he also says Ladd still seems likely to be traded. Just wondering if you guys think we should try and trade for him i personally like his style, tough guy to play against will drop the gloves and can put up points. Hawks will probably want picks though saying they are still tight to the Cap, so i was thinking with our little Cap space should we go for it?

maybe something like this ?

I'd rather Holland find someone who's going to be hungry for the cup. ie. Dallas Drake -type hungry.

Those type of players very rarely work out and they are usually old, Ladd is only 25, he's a fast skater, good on the PK, throws his body around and can put up numbers. Plus id rather bring in a younger guy and have him here for a while then bring in a older player who is here 1 year or something then we have to replace them next season.

Even still, I highly doubt Holland will be parting with any picks. He's stated on the record that draft picks are gold in the cap world. The only way I can see him giving away a pick is if it's for an amazing steal, like an RFA Nicklas Backstrom (before re-singing with the caps) for a 3rd rounder.

That's just the impression I get when reading Holland interviews.

He had actually already won the Cup with Carolina before winning again in Chicago. If it impacted his hunger at all it would be difficult to define, because he contributed nearly the same scoring (little), hitting (decent), and shot blocking (none at all) in both playoff runs.

I dont think we can afford him. I can't stand the guy, but he is definitely a solid player. For an agitator type player he puts up very good numbers. I doubt it happens, but if it did I would surely embrace it.

You have the rose colored glasses on. Ladd has never scored ,more than 17 goals in a year. He had 10 points in his last 26 playoff games. We already have enough tough guys that don't score in Abby, Miller and Eaves. We don't need another one.

ill take Ladd over a fighter/enforcer any day of the week, i dont get why everyone wants one so bad, its hard to find one that actually gets to play in the playoffs or that can put up numbers in the season and if these players do exist teams rarely let them walk.

I agree, but I say Wings should add a big mean guy that doesn't score much, like Winchester instead of Ladd.

For $2 million and giving away a 2nd round pick, there are much better options out there.

Ladd put up better numbers then every player you just listed,38pts this season 49 last season playing 3rd line mins, id have Ladd on this team over Miller any day and for you to call Miller tough is pretty funny . maybe your the one with the glasses on

Why ? what is the purpose of adding a "big mean guy" that doesnt score much, so we get to see more fights throughout the season and then have him scratched all playoffs long ?

The Wings need two things on offense- toughness and scoring. We have enough power forwards (using the term loosely) in Homer, Bert, Abby, Franzen, and Cleary. If an offensive player is added, he needs to bring a new skill-set.

Also, I am cautious of the Wings singing anyone for the top-9. As it stands, Drapes is the only player leaving next year and Mursak, Tatar, and possibly I. Flip are poised to make the jump the the Red Wings (1-2 of the three) soon. Therefore, taking on more multi-year deals for top-9 players may not be advisable.

Ok Miller isn't a tough guy. Your comparison though is meaninless. Neither Abby or Miller were on our team for the entire year and Eaves only played 65 games. Ladd was on the highest scoring team in the league for an entire year and he still didn't score 20. A scorer he is not.

The Wings biggest downfall last year was in not scoring enough. Ladd might be a little better scorer than Eaves or Miller but not by alot and Eaves and Miller are cheap.

First off never once did i say he was a "scorer" i said he hits,is a fast skater, good on the PK and will fight when needed, then i said he also puts up number anf for playing on the 3rd line 38pts isnt bad. With Bert almost finished he could easily move into the 2nd line. All i was saying we have guys like Eaves,Miller,Abby,Helm Ladd plays almost the same style but he is better offensively, dont get me wrong i dont want to get rid of Abby or Helm and i like Eaves and Miller but I personally think Ladd would be better then Eaves and Miller.

LOL, right. So you tout his abilities at the same time as you're claiming that he'll come cheap. Right; excellent logic.

Will you please quit it with the inane sign/trade/line threads? The first one you made suggested that we'd be able to get Bobby Ryan for $3.45m, and the rest haven't been any better.
