So the vast majority of LGW would want to trade Cheechoo too?

Yes. Because it would give us the Cap Space to sign Kovalchuk and half of the Blackhawks roster at a 60% discount.

He'll end up on Crosby's wing.

Probably not a bad idea if he came cheap.

Seems like Cheechoo got bought out, how would you guys feel about him in the winged wheel. I wouldnt mind him for the right price i think he's a guy that really needed a change of scenry and the Wings have been known to resurect careers.

at 700-800k, possibly... but then we'd be so log-jammed. If we got him we'd have to let Miller walk or trade him and the same goes for Ritola too probably... I just don't see it happening.

We've already got too many "skilled" forwards... I don't really see where he'd fit. Filppula or Hudler would end up having to be the 3rd line center. No thanks.
The most popular choice among the Red Wings as to who would volunteer to play goalie – several Panthers did in their game – was Brendan Smith.
"He's pretty competitive and he seems to be good at everything," Justin Abdelkader said. "He'd volunteer himself."
Babcock was a bit more hesitant about Smith. "Yeah, yeah, just work on getting out of your zone," Babcock said

From TSN :

The Dallas Stars are going to give a former 50-goal scorer another chance as the team announced Saturday that Jonathan Cheechoo had accepted an invitation to attend training camp for a tryout which begins on September 17th in Prince Edward Island.

"We're pleased that Jonathan has accepted our invitation to come to our training camp," said Stars' General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk in a statement. "He has shown the ability to be an effective scorer in this league. He's a competitor and we're going to give him an opportunity."

"Mess up tomorrow, don't mess up now".

I think it's a plain and simple no. There's no room for him on the roster, and no cap room either.
