"Darren Millard meanwhile tweeted Thrashers forward Colby Armstrong appears headed to the UFA market and there's been no talks between the Buffalo Sabres and forward Raffi Torres."

Just saw this little nugget of info on Spectors. Does anyone else think that making a push for Armstrong if we can fit him in budget-wise would be the right move to round out the troops, then we'd just need to move out Miller and possibly Ritola... I'd say Draper but you know that'll never happen.

I also heard some rumblings about Torres on the interwebs... not even sure what kind of salary he would demand, but do you think he'd fit in with the squad?

Discuss!

Armstrong wants $4m. He is arguably already overpaid at $2.8m, but he demanded a raise from the Thrashers anyway. What he was asking for was way out of the range of what they were willing to pay for him.

Torres is no longer a scoring force, and he has missed over 50% of his teams` games over the past four seasons.

Neither is an especially good idea.

Colby Armstrong isn't worth $2.8 Million, and he sure as hell isn't worth $4 Million. There's better, cheaper options for the 4th line.I'd rather seen Armstrong take Bertuzzi's place on the 3rd line before Bert re-signed.I'm sticking with Boogaard,Asham,Winchester,Nystrom,or Konopka for the 4th line.

I haven't heard anything about it, but I can just picture Torres being equally s***ty to his teammates, as well as his opposing players. That guy's an idiot.

I'd give Cheech a shot, as well as Vandermeer.

would love to add colby. its too bad we wasted a few mill for holmstrom who played poorly in the playoffs the last 2 yrs. we could of used more speed to add to our third and fourth lines with adding lombardi and armstrong

Don't need him - wouldn't add anything that we don't already have...

Generally speaking, if a player isn't tendered at least a qualifying offer, they probably aren't worth taking a look at, unless you need a dirt cheap, bottom 6 role player...

So - let me preface this by saying that I think he's going to get at least 3m+ a year from Phoenix and I HIGHLY doubt they'll let him go, but I'd pretty much cap the team out for this guy...

- big body

- BOMB of a shot (and right handed at that)

- very solid positionally

(line arbitrary - only setup this way for formatting)

Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m)

Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m)

Todd Bertuzzi ($1.938m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.920m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m)

Mattias Ritola ($0.517m) / Darren Helm ($0.630m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.700m)

Kris Draper ($1.583m)

UFA Enforcer($0.500m)

Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m)

Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m)

Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) / Zbynek Michalek ($2.400m)

Jakub Kindl ($0.883m)

Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) / Chris Osgood ($1.417m)

ROSTER: 23; CAP: $59.4m; PAYROLL: $59.342m; CAP ROOM: $0.058m BONUSES: $0.000m

Thoughts?

EDIT - July 1st needs to get here already...

Per TSN's Bob Mckenzie

Anaheim - Nathan Oystrick

Edmonton - Ethan Moreau, Robert Nilsson, Patrick O'Sullivan

Tampa Bay - Todd Fedoruk

NY Rangers - Donald Brashear, Pat Rissmiller, Aaron Voros

If Voros wasn't such a punching bag he wouldnt be a bad choice for the 4th line grinder role. Im guessing Fedoruk will retire. Hopefully Brashear will as well.

That's exactly what we need... a dirty cheap bottom six role player - indicated by Holland expressing interest in signing an enforcer type. I just wasn't sure if Boyd fit that mold at all. I just know he can put some points up, so I thought if he could be had for cheap enough and he's a more aggresive type player that maybe he'd fit the bill.

I'd have to say pass on every one of those guys

I think we have better options via free angecy or bringing someone up from GR. Nothing against you posting this, just saying I am not to much of a fan of any of them.

Im only posting it as news. I'd pass on all of them as well.

Well...I wouldn't say no to Voros if he was a bit cheaper ;) (hes on 900k at the moment)

Understandable. I figured as much! But yeah I suppose Voros at 900k isn't TOO BAD.

No, we need a bottom 6 energy guy who will drop the mitts at any opportunity... he's not a fighter AT ALL - and doesn't fit the need one bit... I'd take Miller or Ritola in there every day over him, as they offer the same style of game and are already in the system...
