The career -111 Paul Mara? We don't really need more offensively minded defensemen, we need a stay at home, physical, defensive defenseman...

Mara was BRUTAL last season w/ Habs...

BUT LOOK AT HIS BEARD

Why not someone like Sydor for our 6th d-man? Or Wozniewski? Or Eriksson? Or Cullimore? Or Hutchinson? Or Strudwick? Or Hnidy? Or Mottau? Or Boynton? Or Mara? Or Eaton? Or Salei (injury could reduce his previous price-tag)

Dare I also add this name in: Schneider??? As a mentor for Ericsson and Kindl as well as a 6/7 d-man

These are all just options, I was just thinking about how we were minimizing our options down to a choice few when there are quite a few veterans with size out there who made very little before. This is pretty much that list.

I gotta say, I threw Schneider in as a joke, but imagine if he wanted to play one more season around 850k-1 mil max. He'd be pretty much the perfect idea because he can mentor the kids and be a steady hand on the 3rd pairing. He can also be thrown on the PP and be an extra cannon back there.

Discuss!!!

Nothing against you or your post, but no to every single player that you mentioned. Well I supposed I'd take Schneider back, he still puts up some solid numbers and seems to murder us when we play against him. Other then that I don't care for any of the guys in that list. But yeah.

Man Stevie must have been walking into Tampa WIDE EYED and a smile on his face. Being in Detroit for so long, hes seen Holland have to deal with very little cap space. Going to Tampa and using their available cap space to make a big splash in free agency makes Stevie look like a kid in a candy store. Good for him! Hope Tampa will be a contender this year, atleast making the playoffs. Hes made some significant changes so i see goo things! Go Stevie And Go Bolts!

I would have to imagine that they are on that bubble now.

Though I could see his cap already done, because that four year deal combined with four years left on Malone makes 10 million tied up in Martin and Ryan alone. Stamkos is due a raise next year, and even though they clear a million of cap on buyouts and another in 2011, it just seems as if a team that doesn't like to spend alot maybe up against their self imposed cap number. He definately learned how to deal with goaltenders from Holland. His two goalies cost less than Huet does by himself!

Seriously Dan will make that team at least 5 wins better.

Adam Burish (F) Chicago Blackhawks to Dallas Stars .

Tim Jackman (F) New York Islanders to Calgary Flames

Raitis Ivanans (F) Los Angeles Kings to Calgary Flames

Matt Cullen (F) Ottawa Senators to Minnesota Wild

Eric Nystrom (F) Calgary Flames to Minnesota Wild.

Not sure if these have been put on before.

Arty still available!!!

Nice signing for them at $600k per season. He would've been a nice fit here and Dats would've had someone to speak Russian with.

He's Latvian - not Russian, although the language has similarities, it's not the same...

He's too one dimensional and even for that tag, he was FAR down on my list of wanted players...

Does anyone know for sure the details on John Scott's signing with Chicago? TSN says one year $1M but capgeek shows it as two years $512,500 per year. Any idea for sure which it is? $1M for 1 year seems like way too much for Scott but TSN is usually more reliable.

He's like 32years old sure he's from Latvia but it was still in the USSR for half his life. I'm sure he can speak Russian.

I would have to imagine that capgeek actually has it right, I don't see Chicago signing anything other than league min contracts at this point

I sure wouldn't imagine that they would either but was suprised that TSN had something different. If they signed him for the $1M that is really bizzare. The only rationale I can see at all is that he can play D or LW (and is 6'8" and 258 lbs.) so maybe they thought they could run a little light and have him play where ever is neededm but if they signed him for $1M I would have just kept Burish for $1.15M.

FYI, Latvian's are not too fond of Russians, so even if they could communicate, it is not necessary they would be best friends.
