I was just thinking about Asham and was going to see if anyone else thought we had a shot at him. He's probably too expensive at this point, especially with the way GMs are handing out these overpriced contracts for role players. It will be interesting to see what Kenny does, if anything at all. Just get a suitable 6th d-man and see what happens with Eaves and Miller, I guess.

I'm lost...why would the Flyers trade Gagne?

Simple, they have 9 top six forwards and a ton of salary being eaten up by the oldest guys of the bunch. They move someone good now and they might have the money to keep their young guys later while also getting better all around and winning a cup.

$10 million per year, $100 million total.

Honestly, that would ruin any team. I would say straight to him if I were a random teams GM, unless you are the best player in the league, and he isn't, you don't get to make more money than the best player in the league. At least not from us.
"It is a lot easier to be an ******* to words than to people"-xkcd

Tootoo does NOT belong on this team. He is classless and I would rather see the Wings be bad than classless. I feel the same way about Bertuzzi as well, but he at least CAN make the team better. With Tootoo the team becomes worse and in danger of being classless. Would you have liked Claude on the team? Or Roy? No. So why would you be okay with that POS.

Their forum, for the most part, is upset with losing Gagne and would rather trade Jeff Carter.

Considering your previous complaints about other posters here using small sample sizes to make assumptions, this defense is laughable. By that sample size, I could have made Bertuzzi out to be a 50 goal scorer this past December. Move on you pseudo-intellectual, move on.

Yeah, because playoff performance means absolutely nothing! Of course, let's not forget his performances against the Wings during the last regular season and when he was a member of the Flames. Etc.

He's fast and he has a decent shot and can occasionally make a good pass, and that's about it. He's a one-way forward.

I didn't see it listed yet but Colorado gave Kyle Quincey a two year $6.25M contract. Quincey has played well for them but some of these contracts are outrageous. Glad that the Wings haven't bought in at the prices this year.

Minor deal, Alexandre Giroux signed by the Oilers. Played last year with the Caps farm team.

I agree; that is an outrageous price. It goes to show further than Stuart and Kronwall are absolute steals at how much they're currently being paid.

No one is amused by your sarcasm. Contrary to your own beliefs, when
people read your posts, you do not come off as the genius, educated, and comedic persona that you so clearly wish to be, but rather the stereotypical internet ******. Just because you think you're witty, doesn't mean you have a strong argument. You are putting words in my mouth, as I have never once said anything to the effect of playoffs not being important, but rather that 7 games is a small sample size. Judging him by that amount of games makes as much sense of judging Dan Cleary's scoring potential in our 08 Cup Run WHEN HE WAS NOT INJURED.

Now that we've gotten your logical fallacies and miscomprehension of my point out of the way, we get to your incredibly presumptuous statement that he is garbage defensively. You seem to have a problem with confusing your opinion with fact. How well he played defensively, is an arbitrary observation, one in which you and I disagree. This is normally not a big deal, but seeing as you continuously spout off your opinions in the form of factual statements, it is understandable why people would like to argue with you. Seeing as my point of view (of Lombardi being a good defensive player) is supported by countless GM's coaches, and TSN panel members, your statements to the contrary come off as egotistical, as you are insinuating you know more then a whole host of credible people.

You should know that I really don't care what you have to say about my character.

Mmmhmm... and all the other games I mentioned...

Um, so sorry; Cleary was, as a direct result of his jaw injury, far from in peak condition during the '08 playoffs. Having major reconstructive surgery on one's jaw is a very serious process, and it leaves one incapacitated for some time. I wouldn't be surprised if Cleary was unable to fully skate for a month afterwards, and he certainly wasn't able to engage in conditioning drills and/or standard team practices. After he came back from injury---knowing him, he almost certainly did so as soon as he possibly could---he had very little time before the team went into the playoffs (in which, as we know, the most physically intense hockey of the season is played). Do you know how much conditioning was almost certainly lost in between? Well, apparently you don't, and apparently you also don't know the effect that such would have on anyone's play. And given that I did quite a bit of study on that sort of thing in my university major, I think I know quite a bit more about it than you do. Yes, I'm pulling rank here. Call me arrogant. And so sorry, but the his performances in the playoffs of '07 and '09 really support my point here.

It is my opinion that he has nowhere near the defensive capabilities of either Filppula or Cleary. It's very silly for you to be pointing at my opinion and calling it 'wrong'. You can choose to either agree or disagree---to whatever degree---with my opinion on this matter; that's pretty much the extent of your options in this situation.

Yeah but Carter is good too, and he is much younger. Really their centers should be Richards first and Carter second. I would rather get rid of Briere, because he is even older and had an even better postseason, which means more value in return. Gagne makes sense too, why do you really need him when you have those three young wingers and Briere playing your fourth wing!?!?!

I say they are doing right by their team, and while I might be upset if the wings did something simular like trading Franzen over Hudler... sometimes that is what you have to do to make your team viable in the cap world.

Technically the overall money spent is down, believe it or not. I think it has to do with the talent being second tier. I think it is absurd for some of these guys, not all. Quincey has valued himself near that point actually. Thank god we didnt go after Kovs, 100 million is stupid.

Words cannot explain how little I believe this. Your whole style of writing on this site reeks of false superiority complex.

Mmmhmm... and all the other games I mentioned...

So what, 20 games? Kinda similar to the one long playoff example.

And so sorry, but the his performances in the playoffs of '07 and '09 really support my point here.

You do realize he was skating during his injury correct? Regardless whether or not I erroneously stated that his play was or was not effected by injuries, the fact remains that a sample size of that small amount of games is not a good indicator of a player, especially when in the past they have been praised for the very things one is arguing. This does nothing to prove your point, as all you have done is pointed out a error by me, while ignoring the original argument of that being a small sample size. Nice try, but I'm not 5.

Once again, I am questioning your reading comprehension. I KNOW it was your opinion, and have never stated that it was wrong. I was merely saying that you have a habit of stating your opinions as fact. Saying "He is horrible defensively" with no real basis not only leaves any room for further arguement, but is stated as a fact rather than an opinion. If you had actually read what I was saying, all I did was point out that being so close-minded about the tiniest possibility that you were wrong seems egotistical, as countless GMS and hockey personalities have raved about his defensive ability. Google any Lombaradi scouting report if you don't believe other people then me disagree with you.

Lombardi is a fast skater.

Anyways, I'm interested on when the wings are going to pull the trigger on a bottom of the line-up forward/defenseman. It's getting around that time after the first major wave of the over priced free agents, hopefully Holland can find that young and gritty player that we are missing.
