Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 Wow, they think Kane is already top two in American-born players EVER? Right on... their columnists are as delusional as their fans. Hahahahaha Housley, Modano, LaFontaine, Chelios, Mullen, Leetch, Richter, Roenick, Mark Howe, etc. To even suggest that Kane belongs among those names shows a pathetic ignorance of hockey history. 2 Hockeytown0001 and Louisville reacted to this

TheDetroitRedWings 286 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 Not sure if this has been mentioned yet. But while he was at today's Tigers game at Comerica Park, Modano said the only team he'll play for is the Red Wings. He's either going to retire, or play for us. Sounds like it's probably gonna happen. Should be a great 3rd line center for us.

Sounds like it's probably gonna happen. Should be a great 3rd line center for us. Not to mention 1) Willa Ford told the View she would love to live in Detroit, to expand her modeling career. 2) Modano's parents want him to sign with Detroit, and they still reside in Michigan. 3) Modano is a class act, and he's sharp with words, but everything he has said has been entirely optimistic. 4) I intend to hijack his plane back home, and force him to sign at gunpoint. 5) Ignore #4, kthx. Icesurfer 75 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 (edited) Wings aren't going to win a cup with Modano because they will not be able to compete with the younger faster legs of the other teams. Wings may score a few extra goals on the PP and do OK in the regular season but they will give up a ton on the PK. Eaves/Miller ice time will be cut to a substitute level and Modano doesn't kill penalties. Eaves is better off playing for someone else. This will be like when the Wings tried to win with Brendan Shanahan in 2003-2004 and 2005-2006. Shanny scored a lot of goals and got the points but they did NOT make it to the conference finals...... we will see a repeat of that again. Shanny was slow in the playoffs those years. Modano last year looked awful for the Stars, IMHO. Wings will not win a championship with Modano. Dalllas couldn't go anywhere with him in the past 5 years or so, so what makes anyone think he will do any better with Detroit???? Not only that but if he signs for $1.5 mil you can kiss any significant cap space goodbye. Wings will be stuck with Meech as the 6th defencemen (or Kindl) or they will have only about 900K for a the defencemen which will get them someone not much better than Meech with just about zero cap space. Defence and goaltending win championships..... not 40 year old forwards whose career is declining and is no longer a force in the playoffs. Wings should be looking for a quality defenceman because of our other aging stars..... Lidstrom and Rafalski... whose ice time will probably decline. People keep thinking about past performance and think that is what they will get from Modano next year..... wishful thinking..... everyone thought the same thing about Williams and Bertuzzi. This game is for YOUNG FAST skaters... not for soon to be retiree forwards. This is an "emotional sentimental" signing.... not a logical one. And you thought Shanny butted heads with Babcock...... just wait until Babcock thinks Modano is slacking.... bad news. On the other hand we can have a retiree line ...... Homer-Modano-Bertuzzi...... LOL. Edited July 7, 2010 by Icesurfer

titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 If he does end up in a Wings jersey and they slot him into the 3rd line center position then that really makes this upcoming year sinificantly more exciting if most of the players play near their potential. In fact, I'm not sure which line I'd be excited to see the most. You have the reuniting of the Euro Twins to start the season where they can rebuild a stable foundation of chemistry. Many of us have been waiting for this for two years. Can they get back to their 07-08 form? What can Holmstrom provide at his age? Can he still do what he does at a high level? Can Filppula finally outgrow his "play good defense and be happy with whatever offense I can get" mentality and provide good offense in addition to good defense? Will Franzen be fired up after such a disappointing season health-wise? Can he rack up the points and play for most of the season? Can Bertuzzi fully embrace his role as the Holmstrom for the second line? Can Hudler show his offensive smarts and confidence in smaller rinks again? Can he be one of the best at points per TOI? Will Cleary really be at or very near 100% to start next season? Can he rebound from the last two regular seasons? Can Modano find the emotion to end his career with a bang? Can this line be one of the best 3rd lines in the league? Can Helm, Abdelkader, Eaves, Miller and whoever else step up their play 5 on 5 and help the Wings to have one of the best PKs in the league? Can Helm and Eaves score more points and bring the physical play? Can Abdelkader keep the flies off and be reliable should he be the one to defend his teammates? How good is Lidstrom these days? Where is he at in comparison to his Norris trophy winning days? Where is Rafalski at all for that matter? What can we expect from him? Can he find the motivation to play better than he did last year? Can Kronwall step up his game and stay healthy? Can Stuart be reliable like he was at times last season? Can Ericsson be a reliable player for the Wings this season and solidify that third defensive pairing? Can Jimmy handle his looming and seemingly inevitable sophomore slump well? Can Ozzie finally play well enough to become the all-time leader in wins? So much excitement. Just drop the puck already, please. If the Wings answer the majority of these questions in a good way then that makes for a really fun year for us Wings fans. 1 REDThirteen reacted to this

Icesurfer 75 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 Modano had ONE Stanley Cup ring TWELVE years ago this year! I wouldn't exactly call that winning over and over again like some of the Wings players or Colorado players or New Jersey players. LOL If he is STILL so good why has Dallas sunk the last two years and why have they let him go???? Some players just have to know when to hang it up!!! Kind of reminds me of Schneider who won a cup his first year in the NHL as a rookie and was never able to repeat again.... even with the Wings. He was useless.
