stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 I don't know why they have to wait for Modano to sign these two. They made their offer to Modano. Whether he takes it or not, we're resigning Abdelkader and Helm. Pretend Modano already signed and work with these two. Each of them should make $1-1.5 this year. If Modano ends up not signing, then we have an extra $1.2 leftover. Maybe they're trying to sign Helm, Abs, or both long term - like 4+ years and need a reasonable caphit to do it, but if Modano signs, then a 1 or 2 year deal at a lower value will be signed and they will revisit it at the end of the contract - remember when Holland locked up Kronwall long term when he was still developing? Sometimes you pay for potential early and it ends up being a steal in the long term, maybe Holland and co see that in one or both of Abs and Helm and this is what's holding it up........ Guest mindfly Report post Posted July 16, 2010 you think theyre hossa or pronger or something? lol that's not how it works with players that were legally allowed to drink last winter. they fetch more money with longterm deals, not less. Yeah maybe you're right, then sign them to a 1year deal maximum, they shouldnt get more than 1million period, they should earn similar to eaves&miller money. 1 55fan reacted to this
Pucks 66 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Wow now it's a two yr deal? Quick someone tell Holland to go watch some games of his from last year. He doesn't have much left to give anymore. He certainly doesn't warrant pushing Helm down to the third 4th line. Helm would pot at least 15 goals this year with Hudler on his line IMO. At this point I'd be annoyed by the whole situation if I was Helm and Abdelkader. Those guys have put in their time. They deserve to get the spots and have an opportunity to excel just like Howard did. I hope this isn't what's holding up the contracts for those 2? They might start thinking they have to go to another team to get playing time. This whole Modano thing just doesn't make sense? We got enough bottom 6 guys, hell I'd even consider Homer and Bert bottom six guys when they're struggling. But we do have some questions marks on D. That just seems like the more pressing need than a faded former star player on his last legs. 3 thomaz5, T-bone and redwingfan19 reacted to this

Guest mindfly Report post Posted July 16, 2010 I doubt Modano even would want a 2 year straight away, after you tuirn 40 you take it year by year, common sense. 1 55fan reacted to this
hillbillywingsfan 792 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 I understand the decision process on Modano's part, but if it's affecting other signings, particularly Darren Helm who I'd much rather sign than Mikey, I say pull the offer. I don't see that he brings anything to the table worth waiting for. Do you guys really think that holland and all of them would screw up a chance of signing someone like helm? I mean really. From the comment holland said earlier they pretty much know hes gonna sign with us..its just a matter of time. why rush it really...only to make us feel better? hehehe. trust me i would love for it to be over with already but they know what they are doing. I say we just sit back and let it happen. if they don't sign mod than who cares we just go after someone else. we will sign helm no matter what happens. you know that. and i know that hossa was pretty much a lock for a resign and look what happened. it happens and if it happens with mod then oh well..our team is set already pretty much anyways. HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Can finally let out a huge sigh of relief. Not that I was like ALL ABOUT the Modano signing, but its been a just agonizing wait. Especially with all the Sharks and Wild rumors. Really hope this is happening. This can now pave the way for Abby and Helmer. Now reading something on nhl.com that it may not happen until August 1st. Whatever it is, it is a done deal by all accounts. More excited than I thought I would be lol.... 1 Vladifan reacted to this

He certainly doesn't warrant pushing Helm down to the third 4th line. Helm would pot at least 15 goals this year with Hudler on his line IMO. Hudler with Helm would do wonders for Helm's production... but what would it do to Hudler's? He certainly wouldn't hit that 50-60 point mark that he's expected to. Modano is a better center and is much better offensively than Helm is right now. If its a 2 year deal I could almost realistically see Modano being the 3rd line center this next season, and then Helm taking over the season with Mikey down to the 4th. And about us having too many forwards. For the nineteenth kabajilionth time.... people will be traded before the season starts. Its that simple. Holland signed them to create competition and retain assets for trades should we have any major holes that need be filled. I'm pretty sure Holland has been watching plenty of games, thanks. 1 hillbillywingsfan reacted to this
