Well, I never expected the decision to take even this long of time (although its been only a few days,) I hope it doesn't drag on too much longer. Sure he has to decide if he wants to play another season, and I guess its a hard decision for him, but from my low income point of view it looks simple, either dont play and make nothing or play and make another million dollars and possibly win another Cup. I know Holland is gonna give him whatever time he wants, but Mike, just sign it, please, or come out and say you're retiring. Just make a decision so the entire Red Wings nation can exhale...
Seriously. I know it's only been a couple days but the suspense is killing me.

Agreed. All respects to Probie right now. Hopefully they wear a 24 patch next year.I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out Modano decided to play yesterday, but was told not to reveal it until after Probert's funeral. I expect an announcement tomorrow afternoon or Saturday Morning.

I must disagree, I think Modano would make this team a force. We already look pretty darn good imo, then adding a Modano? Sure as hell isnt making us worse!
well you hope not. depends where he is mentally and emotionally.

I think he proved with his play last season on a pretty bad Dallas team that the desire is still there... whether you like or dislike the signing, you can't argue that he is an asset, not a liability and will only make a team better on a 3rd line role.... keep in mind, he had 11 more pts than Miller in 21 less games last year...well you hope not. depends where he is mentally and emotionally.
EDIT - As I said in another thread, IF Modano signs, I wouldn't mind the Wings swinging something like this:
- Drew Miller to CBJ for Jared Boll
- Derek Meech and Mattias Ritola to Boston for Mark Stuart (also gives Boston some MUCH needed cap relief and fills out roster spots on the cheap, plus a high prospect in Ritola)
- Mike Modano signed via FA
(lines arbitrary for formatting reasons)
Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m)
Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m)
Todd Bertuzzi ($1.938m) / Mike Modano ($1.000m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m)
Justin Abdelkader ($1.000m) / Darren Helm ($1.000m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.750m)
Jared Boll ($0.850m)
Kris Draper ($1.583m)
Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m)
Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m)
Mark Stuart ($1.675m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m)
Jakub Kindl ($0.883m)
Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) / Chris Osgood ($1.417m)
ROSTER: 22; CAP:$59.4m; CARRY-OVER PENALTY: $0.050m;
PAYROLL: $58.975m; CAP ROOM: $0.300m; BONUSES: $0.000m
WITH THAT SAID - I'd rather us take a flier on Modano and let the kids play (plus I really don't like the idea of giving up on Ritola without ever really giving him a chance) and maybe letting Miller go to add some nastiness, but otherwise, standing pat... at the same token, I wouldn't hate Modano coming here...

I can't wrap my head around the concept of him on this team. Hang 'em up, Mike. Sorry, but it's past your time to go.
I remember people saying the same thing about Hasek and Hull...I thought they did ok. Larionov was also "past his time" when they picked him up the second time....Again I think he did fairly well.

Sorry for forgeting Murphy.
I think people fail to realize that when a Hall Of Fame player is "Past His Prime" he is still better than the majority of talent out there. Look at Yzerman...On one leg he was good enough to play at a high level and win a cup.
