IILeiBlazeII 15 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 As much as I want this rumor to be true... http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/07/mike_modano_speaks_to_espn_dal.html ... that's all it is... a rumor. I hope in the next few days it becomes official though.

servo 15 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 This is far from official. A 2 year deal is on the table and Modano is likely going to choose the WIngs IF he decides not to retire. http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/07/mike_modano_speaks_to_espn_dal.html http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/07/mccosky_if_mike_modano_continu.html

WorkingOvertime 536 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 I hope it's not two years. We have too many centers as it is, and there are players in the AHL who need to move up next season (Mursak, Tatar, I. Flip maybe).
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 I really, really dislike the two-year deal if that part is true. I don't understand what the point of adding a second year is if Modano is already contemplating retirement THIS summer. I am not going to call it a bad move as it is premature still, but two years would be a mistake.

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 If he plays for something at or below 1 mil I can see the two years being possible. Holland could look at it as just spreading the cost out over two years with the possibility of him staying the second year and making it a bargain. I'm not saying I'm happy with it, just throwing a possibility out there. Two years allows a lower cap hit... Espically if he is going to retire after one year! He's over 35 so it would still count regardless of his potential retirement.

Booster313 138 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 You give him 2mill the first year and .750 the second, Modano retires after the first year making 2 mill yet his cap hit was only 1.375, it's a win/win.

But with Lidstrom retiring, along with Draper and who knows who else, a lot of cap space is going to be freed up next summer and it's likely his 900k cap hit after retirement won't hurt the team any. This is probably Holland's reasoning (again, if the 2 year part is true). So really it's a smart move, a cheap 2 year contract even if Modano retires after the next season. 1 wings1110 reacted to this

miller76 463 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 Okay this was just tweeted from ESPN. Modano texts ESPN all day, and has been giving them vague info. he just wrote "It's totally up to me" Here is a source o.p., get one before you post source
KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 Even tho it's a rumor, I would love it to be a 2 year deal. Lower cap hit and a good center 3rd/4th line player for 2 years.
