I really, really dislike the two-year deal if that part is true.

I don't understand what the point of adding a second year is if Modano is already contemplating retirement THIS summer. I am not going to call it a bad move as it is premature still, but two years would be a mistake.

Agreed. One year is plenty; you reevaluate the situation after that year.

If he plays for something at or below 1 mil I can see the two years being possible. Holland could look at it as just spreading the cost out over two years with the possibility of him staying the second year and making it a bargain.

I'm not saying I'm happy with it, just throwing a possibility out there.

Two years allows a lower cap hit... Espically if he is going to retire after one year! :)

He's over 35 so it would still count regardless of his potential retirement.

I saw Willa Ford on "The View" today talking about how much she'd love to live in Detroit.

To help her modeling and acting career and all.

There are a ton of movies being shot in Detroit and Ann Arbor currently.

But with Lidstrom retiring, along with Draper and who knows who else, a lot of cap space is going to be freed up next summer and it's likely his 900k cap hit after retirement won't hurt the team any. This is probably Holland's reasoning (again, if the 2 year part is true). So really it's a smart move, a cheap 2 year contract even if Modano retires after the next season.
