Octopus's Garden 147 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 4 years, $14 million. Another one bites the dust. Vince Vaughn's going to be the Hawks' No. 5 defenseman at this rate. 1 Lidstrom for life reacted to this

stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 But Chicago will get SJ's 1st and 3rd picks... AWESOME! But Chicago will get SJ's 1st and 3rd picks... fair enough trade off for a potential top 2 d-man...
MotorCityMadness 388 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 Anybody think they have the ability to match it? I can only think they will be able to if they draw it out for more years
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 Good for SJ. He's worth a couple of picks, no matter how high they are. This could put SJ in contention for the Cup.
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 Lol I love it. Now if this Niemi arbitration thing plays out, they will have literally lost everyone, plus Buff and Versteeg. Things are looking grim in Chicago... Anyone else care to start another debate on them being completely fine next season?
henrik40 76 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 I will give Chicago props for getting tons of picks to restock their farm system. As long as picks pan out they will have a swarm of young kids coming up again soon. 1 T.Low reacted to this

xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 Anybody think they have the ability to match it? I can only think they will be able to if they draw it out for more years They might have to match it. They only have 3 defensemen under contract right now and one of those three (Campbell) they can't give away.
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 (edited) They might have to match it. They only have 3 defensemen under contract right now and one of those three (Campbell) they can't give away. They have 4 - John Scott was signed about a week ago... there's no way they can afford that, they're already only like 3m below the cap and they only have 16 players under contract... If anything, this might be the best thing to happen to them, as they can rationalize it to fans as someone "stealing him" and it not just being another trade, and they get two picks in return (which don't take up cap space) - one of which is a 1st rounder... This could put SJ in contention for the Cup. ganna need to sign a good goaltender for them to be a contender at anything. Not really a strong market for that either so i dont know what they have planned...

According to nhlnumbers.com they have $9 mil in cap space, but only 9 forwards and 4 defenseman. CapGeek has the Hawks with like $3.6 mil. If that's the case, then, yeah, he's gone, Niemi too. dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 If Lidström had retired I wonder if Holland wouldn't have tried to "steal" Hjalmarsson too.. if the Sharks get him that will make them so much stronger. And lol at the Hawks. 1 GoWings1905 reacted to this

russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 They could still keep Hjalmarson if they are willing to let Niemi walk...but that would also include burying Huet in the KHL...so where I am at is that the choice is Hjalmarsson or Niemi...
redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 the huet contract is a curse. Even if they somehow get rid of it by then they will have lost all their players and have no talent left in FA to sign.
